I didn’t see the debates last night so have scanned the news coverage. The coverage seems slanted toward Romney, probably because he is leading in the polls.
The New York Times headlined their story “Romney Looks Past Rivals as Debate Focuses on Economy.” The Washington Post story is titled “Mitt Romney solidifies his front-runner status in Republican debate.”
How does one “look past rivals” and “solidify front-runner status” during a debate? Isn’t “winning a debate” in the eyes of the beholder?
I’m probably just getting politically rusty as I haven’t followed an election this closely in a long time. Or maybe I’m just sad that it’s being decided so quickly ending the fun.
It’s clearly about Romney.
It’s About Romney, stupid
Comparing the charts of two individuals to determine compatibility is called synastry.
Obama has sun in Leo (fixed fire) and moon in Gemini (mutable air). Leo is strong, proud and needs to be center of attention. Gemini is about mental agility and seeks constant stimulation.
Romney has sun in Pisces (mutable water) and moon, probably, in Scorpio (fixed water). Pisces is sensitive, emotional and empathetic. Scorpio is emotional, intense, perceptive and vengeful.
These two don’t have much in common. Obama is fire and air while Romney is entirely water.
With ten planets in each chart, there is a lot to compare. It’s interesting, though, how little these two are connected. It’s almost like they are different species or from different planets.
Communication
Romney’s Uranus in on Obama’s moon (in Gemini) and his Saturn is on Obama’s Mercury (in Leo). Romney’s Uranus squares his own Mercury (in Pisces) and Obama’s Mars (in Virgo) opposes that Mercury.
I can’t wait to watch these two argue. When I watch the US presidential “debates,” I see only individual monologues and very little debating. I suspect if/when Romney and Obama debate, there will be more actual debating with lots of facts thrown out to foil the other. Mental and verbal fencing will occur.
Romney appears to have the upper hand with his Saturn on Obama’s Mercury. He seems to intimidate Obama intellectually. It feels as if Romney knows a secret about Obama (Pisces and Scorpio both love secrets) and speaking around the rim of that secret keeps Obama from getting too nasty in response.
(This energy excites me, as a voter. A real debate would be cool. I never thought I’d say it but I will — I miss William F. Buckley Jr. He knew how to throw a debate. I’d also love to see someone like Christopher Hitchens ask real questions and challenge rehearsed answers. I’d cancel my plans to watch that debate.)
Dominance
Romney’s Pluto (in Leo) is on Obama’s sun. Obama’s Mars (in Virgo) is opposite Romney’s sun (in Pisces). Obama’s Pluto (in Virgo) is opposite Romney’s Mars (in Pisces).
These aspects suggest a fight for dominance. I know, duh. This time it’s going to be very intense and maybe even a little nastier than usual. Some of the nasty may be plays the voter never sees.
Romney will have an almost animal instinct about how to trigger Obama. Romney’s political connections will also make it difficult for Obama. Romney will fight in a covert, mafia sort of way. He will be attacking Obama’s pride.
Obama will attack more openly. He will try to lure Romney from the environment where he is protected. Obama’s efforts to force Romney to admit certain things will probably fail as Pisces is good at emotional empathy and appearing the victim.
Pisces and Scorpio are manipulative. Leo and Gemini are better at making up complicated, colorful stories to move attention onto other subjects. We’ll see which prevails.
Transits
It’s interesting to me that the current transiting cardinal T-square of Pluto (in Capricorn), Uranus (in Aries) and Saturn (in Libra) doesn’t have a profound impact on either of these men’s charts. Maybe that’s why they have the energy to run for President. The rest of us are laboring in jobs and relationships under this transit.
Uranus in Aries energizes both men. Neptune in Pisces will be affecting Romney, but that’s not here yet. If he does win the presidency, he will probably rule like a religious leader.
Saturn in Libra is squaring Obama’s natal Saturn in Capricorn. His role in the world is challenging to his relationships. When he’s done being president, he will probably have to make a new set of friends as this set will move out of his sphere.
Nothing in Common
The synastry makes me suspect that Romney has some very powerful supporters who can move events. Obama might want to have a fair fight, but it’s not going to be fair.
Once the fight is over, these two will probably never interact again. They have nothing in common.
