Seeing a television ad for face masks, I found it ironic that just a couple years ago we were plastering social media with our faces and now we were covering them.
Is the pandemic the universe’s way to get us to stop taking pictures of ourselves?
Uranus in Aries
From 2011 to 2018 Uranus the planet of sudden insight, inspiration and enlightenment was in the sign of Aries. While Uranus is ultimately about clarity and enlightenment which can come from sudden shock, gone bad it’s merely rebellious and eccentric behavior.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the “me” sign, a cardinal (pushy), fire (energetic) sign with a focus on self. This was (yes, past tense) also the Age of Personalized Marketing where you only saw what interested you or what could be sold to you which resulted in a more “convenient” world but also a more self-centered one.
Astrologically Aries rules the head. Uranus in Aries brought the joy and wonder of a bazillion head photos. It’s also made us more expressive of personal views which can be expressed easily and without recourse. It’s brought a lot of Aries fighting with no winners.
Uranus in Taurus
In May 2018, Uranus moved into Taurus then stepped out again later but returned for the seven-year haul in March 2019. Taurus is a fixed earth sign focused on body, property, money and anything tangible. As you can see, Taurus is making us focus on the body. It will also demand attention to the earth.
Taurus rules the neck. Face masks cover the face but for the purpose of keeping the nose and throat matter from departing the body. Uranus has a seven-year cycle so plan your masks and face covering collection accordingly.
Also in the neck is the thyroid so it will be interesting to see what happens there. Plastics affect hormones so possibly Uranus in Taurus will provide additional enlightenment here.
Taurus needs physical touch which is being discouraged by Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus. The “social distancing” we are being asked to follow is really “physical distancing.” It causes some problems for the Taurus who wants to hug you.
As Taurus is physical and rules the throat, this astrologer wonders if Ohio’s Governor “Daddy DeWine” as I hear he’s called will someday ask us to avoid oral sex. That would be a fun press conference to see. Maybe that can be added to the bill telling doctors to replant ectopic pregnancies, a bill requiring the medically-impossible which exhibits the wacky side of Uranus in Taurus.
Uranus rules Aquarius, the fixed air sign, and is humanitarian, genius, rebellious and unique. Since Uranus doesn’t like to follow the rules and sometimes does things “backwards,” we’ll look at some recent Uranus transits in relation to body changes.
Uranus in Pisces
Pisces is the mutable water sign, the last sign of the zodiac and most sensitive. From 2003 – 2011 Uranus was in this sign. The astrological archaeological record for this sign that rules the feet is painted toenails and an increased love of shoes.
While women have painted their toenails and loved shoes for millennia, I blame Sex and the City for the increase in attention to the feet with the main character buying $800 shoes. I don’t recall painted toenails in the show though – I might need to watch some reruns. It appears nail polish sales plummeted after this transit.
Regardless, painted toenails were unofficially mandated in the Midwest during Uranus in Pisces, I’m sure of it, and I was yelled at twice during this transit for non-compliance. I still don’t comply. Watch the Oscars, I say, and see how many painted toenails you see.
The book Kinky Boots was published in 2005 in the early days of Uranus in Pisces, another example of Uranus wacky applied to the feet.
Uranus in Aquarius
Aquarius, the fixed air sign, rules the ankles and circulatory system. What changed from 1996 – 2003?
The rise of technology and the staring at screens for long periods increased greatly during this time. I’m not sure how much of the affects have been studied or registered but we know that reduced physical activity is one result. And that was after a Uranus in Sagittarius transit (see below) where people needed more not less activity.
While technology connected great numbers of people, it also began the social distancing we see today with Saturn in Aquarius. Even when people are physically present, they often are not mentally present. Uranus in Aquarius paved the way for future transits including the current Neptune-in-Pisces transit which has blessed both physical escape (alcohol and drugs both legal and illegal) and excessive media viewing.
This was also the beginning of the rise in autism. Not sure the connection although lots accuse vaccines. Aquarius and Uranus are unique so I won’t speculate as it’s probably some unusual connection we haven’t discovered.
Maybe we’ll find a connection between circulation and physical health that started in this transit. There are lots of new waves around us now, symbolized astrological by an air sign. The effects have not been studied in depth.
Uranus in Capricorn
Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign, ambitious to the last and interested in order and control. The year 2020 was brought to you by Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter in Capricorn. Uranus was in Capricorn from 1988 – 1995.
Capricorn rules knees, joints, skin, teeth and bones. Capricorn is about structure and these areas are the structure and support of the body.
Data isn’t readily available in these areas to determine if Uranus had any affect. From a social standpoint, however, this is when Amazon was founded (1994) which has become the national supply chain infrastructure. Founded with Uranus in Capricorn, Amazon has benefited greatly from Pluto, Saturn an Jupiter transiting that sign.
Maybe the physical legacy is that we no longer have to use our knees to walk to the store. The store is now dropped onto our doorsteps. Maybe there’s an undetected national knee crisis.
Knees also represent standing up for ourselves. Some are still doing this, but many are now sitting in front of the television ignoring it all. Your knees are not happy with this decision.
Uranus in Sagittarius
Uranus was in Sagittarius from 1981 – 1988 which in the US was the duration of Reagan Presidency. Sagittarius is the mutable fire sign known for its generosity, expansiveness and daring. During Reagan’s term, corporate risk was encouraged, regulations removed and greed transformed into the positively-viewed return on investment. The financial crisis of 2007 when Pluto left Sagittarius and moved into Capricorn can be traced to this time of Uranus in Sagittarius.
Sagittarius rules the hips, thighs and liver. In addition to personally blaming Ronald Reagan for sanctifying greed, I also blame him (and not Ronald McDonald) for American’s issues with weight. Look at family photos pre-Reagan and you do not see many weight issues.
Uranus in Sagittarius expanded our waistlines. Another commercial I saw today addressed weight loss without even asking if you needed to lose weight.
Sagittarius said “yes” to lots of bad behaviors, as it should. Sagittarius tests the waters as many fire signs do by taking risk and exploring. But testing and exploring is to learn and sometimes you need to jump back out of the waters. We’ve learned how Sagittarius must later pay for excesses not kept in check.
Although it’s fun to see all the connections through each sign, I’ll take a Uranus turn and go forwards one more sign.
After Uranus leaves Taurus in 2025, it will move into Gemini, the mutable air sign that rules lungs, hands, and nervous system.
The current illness like many affects the lungs. When Uranus is in Gemini we may see the permanent affects to the lungs. Gemini also brings new forms of communication. Maybe the crazy dream I had is technology in the works – a machine that monitors your heart/lung area the way they do temperature today. Maybe we’ll even have devices we wear around the torso.
Gemini also rules the hands so possibly the many years of technology use will increase carpel tunnel syndrome or have some affect on hand-eye coordination. The lungs can represent our ability to communicate which also involves the Taurus throat. It will be interesting to see how we communicate in 2025 and any affects of stifled or prohibited communications.
As Uranus enters Gemini Pluto will move into Aquarius so we’ll be moving away from the earth energy to air energy. As we can see, more and more of our life is in the air waves. It will be interesting to see how much our bodies change in response.
