Robert F Kennedy: Public and Private

Robert F Kennedy, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, has sun in Capricorn and moon in Cancer. That’s an opposition, a natural polarity of personal consciousness (Cancer) and social consciousness (Capricorn). Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William, also has this opposition and lives on the public stage with style and grace while maintaining family privacy.

Kennedy, however, has Uranus conjunct moon. With this polarity (Cancer – Capricorn) family and social standing is a prominent theme for the individual – no mystery here for a man from the Kennedy clan. However, Uranus conjunct moon – in any sign – but also in nurturing, needy Cancer indicates the “mothering” was a bit inconsistent. Mothering and family and clan was sometimes supportive with steaming bowls of chicken soup and other times – unexpectedly – irritable over insinuated or perceived insults and slights. Kennedy’s emotional responses are similar. Flower-bearing one day, grouchy the next.

Five of the ten planets in his horoscope are involved in this opposition. From a health perspective, Capricorn rules skin, teeth and bones. Cancer rules stomach and digestion. Food sensitivity is suggested here, trouble digesting milk and many other items which could then lead to problems with Capricorn skin, teeth and bones.

Stomach aches indicate emotional upsets for Kennedy. If, say, during a Senate hearing on school lunches he suddenly rises for a potty break, assume that nerves are to blame. Moon is reaction. While Capricorn’s poker face meets the social interaction with emotional armor, the moon in Cancer is having its own gurgling reaction.

Reproductive Health

With Saturn and Mars in Scorpio, this adds to Kennedy’s emotional nature. While Capricorn doesn’t like to be anything but perfect in public, the underlying emotions are anything but neat and tidy. Close family and associates may be the recipient of volatile emotions.

Saturn and Mars indicate an obsessive emotional nature, one that often seeks revenge for perceived slights – Capricorn can be vengeful as well. Mars and Saturn indicate sexual frustration and even sexual cruelty. The gonads are under the stomach so Kennedy from the belt down is very different than from the belt up. Like the Nile, there’s an “upper” and “lower” Kennedy. Upper is conscious, upstanding behavior. Lower is emotional, sometimes irrational, and often inconsistent childlike response.

As a strategist, Capricorn and Scorpio do well, especially in medieval environments where the penalties for even minor infractions are the rack. Capricorn is a rule-follower and rule-creator and loves tradition, authority, and respect. Capricorn and other earth signs (or those with prominent Saturn) can say things like, “I don’t agree with slavery and beating runaway slaves but it’s legal.”

From a health perspective, Kennedy needs to watch for prostate issues resulting from suppressed emotions and anger. He may also need some check on hormones like testosterone. At his age, this would be a normal procedure (in a normal environment). Ulcers and hernias are also likely.

Air and Fire

Most of Kennedy’s horoscope is earth and water, traditional, conservative, emotional, feeling, personal, private, and sensitive. Cancer moon has a tendency to hide and Capricorn sun has a tendency to overwork so at times Kennedy is emotionally and physically unavailable (although with moon in Cancer, Happy Hour and supper are both enjoyed and routine).

There’s a wee bit of air with Jupiter in Gemini and Neptune (outer planet) in Libra. When Kennedy is feeling balanced and whole – rare for his chart – he does enjoy some lively company and purposeless fun. Neptune in Libra likes art, culture, beautiful people, and fine food. With sun in Capricorn, guessing there’s a wine cellar filled with expensive rarities shared only with close family and friends.

Gemini is twin – double – so Ohio Astrology always looks for two of something – two jobs, two families, two personalities, etc. Can’t look for two cars or homes as this is so common in our culture.

What’s double? Gemini is language so possibly two ways of speaking. At home, may have an entirely different style of speech or use a foreign language. With moon in Cancer, when he does joke around, it’s so different than his other persona that it may be surprising. Cancer is also known for the belly laugh so he may even giggle (you can fool everyone but your astrologer!).

Kennedy’s Pluto in Leo is generational as well – the American voters can’t “quit” this generation for some reason, a puzzling mystery to this astrologer. Not sure why we don’t like the subsequent generations. Leo is proud, vain, and defined a lot of personal right to self-expression. I suppose the leftover proud and vain energy (the self-expression seems to have gotten lost) sells.

Note to voters: You might want to consider a Virgo for Health & Human Services as rules work, health, and diet and thinks about such things about 25 hours a day (every day). Add this to criteria for your next presidential vote (if you get to vote).

In Kennedy’s chart Pluto and Jupiter make a wide yod aspect (finger of God) to his Capricorn planets (Venus, sun, Mercury). Pride, vanity and ability to speak in flexible ways allows the authority to be demonstrated. It also points to Capricorn responsibility and the importance of it for personal, spiritual growth.
