Mars in Virgo: What it means for the Republican Presidential Candidates

Mars has left Leo (bye!) and entered into Virgo. The raw, aggressive and goal-directed energy in the heavens is now pointed to Virgo the Virgin. Mars will be transiting Virgo through July 2012 which takes us through the Republican primary season.

Virgo is the discriminating mind. Remember Sally in “When Harry Met Sally?” Sally was a Virgo who had a very specific way about ordering a meal. Apply meal to anything and everything in life and you have a Virgo.

Somewhere in your chart, and the charts of the Republican presidential candidates, is the sign of Virgo. Mars is now in that area of the chart making aspects to other planets in the chart.

Let’s take a look at how Mars in Virgo affects the men and women running for presidential nominee in the Republican Party. I don’t have times of birth, so will be basing the advice on planetary aspects only.

I will list the candidates in reverse alphabetical order to give the ever-ignored Santorum top billing. He can thank me later. He owes me two favors now.

Rick Santorum

Effect: Mars will oppose natal Mars (in Pisces), square Saturn (in Sagittarius), trine the sun (in Taurus) and sextile Neptune (in Scorpio). While the trine is nice, squares to Saturn and opposition to Mars means your enemies will clamp down hard.

Advice: The same advice Ohio Astrology provided on the prep sheet – CONNECT THE DOTS, RICK. Focus on ONE thing you want to say and connect the dots to the supporting ideas. Your moon in Aquarius square sun in Taurus connects ideas with practicality in an unusual way. And, as Newt pointed out, it’s difficult to talk economic theory in 30 seconds. Figure out how to connect the dots in 30 seconds.

Mitt Romney

Effect: Mars will oppose Mars, Mercury and sun (all in Pisces), square Uranus (in Gemini) and sextile moon (in Scorpio). The opposition will be fierce and when the square to Uranus occurs (June 2012), there will be some strange maneuvering and possibly another individual speaking on your behalf.

Advice: The combination of Pisces, Scorpio and Gemini suggests someone less than totally truthful with the ability to manipulate facts in a desired direction. Facts are going to be pounded into you like nails into plywood. Just answer each question factually.

Rick Perry

Effect: Mars will oppose your sun (in Pisces), conjunct your natal Saturn/moon conjunction (in Virgo) and trine your Uranus (in Cancer). Eeek! That sun opposition to Saturn/moon is difficult enough to live with day-to-day and now it will be triggered in front of a national audience. There is more anxiety on the way.

Advice: Your anxiety is part of your super-sensitive nature. Running for president is clearly putting the anxiety meter off the scale. Do you really want that sensitivity as the American Republican Presidential Primary Blue Plate Special? Reconsider what you are doing in running for President. The issues arising with this aspect are the big clues.

Ron Paul

Effect: Mars will conjunct Mercury, Neptune and Venus (all in Virgo), trine the moon (in Taurus), sextile Pluto (in Cancer), sextile Mars and Jupiter (in Scorpio) and oppose Saturn (in Pisces). You are the candidate most energized by this transit.

Advice: Revel in the details that will emerge as Mars transits Virgo. The dialogue will move in a direction you enjoy where you will be able to pull out that slide rule and explain how things work. The greatest challenges are this month (November 2011) and March 2012 when Mars opposes that Saturn. During that time, others will try to undermine your sense of mission and your connection to your consitituency.

Jon Huntsman

Effect: Mars will oppose Mercury and Venus (in Pisces), conjunct Pluto (in Virgo), trine Jupiter and Saturn (in Capricorn) and sextile Neptune (in Scorpio). Virgo and Aries aren’t natural bedfellows, but general this transit has energizing effects.

Advice: If you can make it through mid-December when Mars conjuncts that Pluto, you will be good until March 2012. You must then pass the same sort of test to get past March. Mars on Pluto suggests nasty, ugly fighting, mostly verbal. As mentioned in the prep sheet, if you can get a handle on your meanness, you might make it through.

Newt Gingrich

Effect: Mars will make T-squares and crosses through your entire chart. Yikes! I can almost feel the pain you will endure when fact upon fact are thrust into your heart like daggers into the heart of a vampire. Rather than daggers they are more like boomerangs that you will throw out only to see return with added force. Mars will square Mercury, Uranus, Saturn and sun (in Gemini), square moon (in Sagittarius), conjunct Neptune (in Virgo) and sextile Jupiter (in Cancer).

Advice: If you weren’t running for President, I’d say just lay low and keep quiet. But I’m going to offer that advice anyway, for the good of your being. This transit through your chart feels like those Christmas tree lights you threw in the box last year, all tangled up. See if you can untangle them.

Herman Cain

Effect: Mars will square Mercury, Venus and sun (in Sagittarius), square Uranus (in Gemini) and sextile Saturn (in Cancer). As already mentioned in blog, this aspect will create friction. Your unpredictable nature will be challenged in every little teensy weensy detail. Sagittarius likes big picture, the entire universe, not one little star 500 million light years from earth.

Advice: As already mentioned, you will have to focus on those pesky details. Find a story, get it straight and stick with it. Also fine-tune the details behind your big picture schemes. Go find an astrology book and read about Virgo. Be like that for 5 minutes.

Michele Bachmann

Effect: Mars will create a T-square with Venus (in Gemini) and Saturn (in Sagittarius), trine Mars (in Capricorn) and sextile Uranus (in Cancer). This is a double-edged sword. You will feel energized by the focus on practical matters, but this aspect will strain personal relationships.

Advice: Mars in Capricorn and sun in Aries make you ruthlessly competitive and provides you with a lot of raw energy. This can make you very self-centered. Be honest and open with those closest to you. Success in life is not truly individual. It involves those that work with you and those that help you along the way. Those that work with you and help you are calling out to you now.

What sign of the Zodiac is Santa Claus?

Santa is clearly a Sagittarius. He is jolly and generous. Santa’s full figure is an indication of his jolly nature – he indulges in all the cookies left for him by the fire. He lives above us (the Arctic Circle) and rides in the sky (above us) and delivers presents in the night, no strings attached. And, most importantly, he shows up in our lives during the sign of Sagittarius.

Now you’re thinking it must be really cool to be a Sagittarius.

Once the sun moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn, we open the presents, go to church and then, during the gloomy month of January, think about how we’re going to pay the Christmas bills and lose the Christmas weight we’ve gained.

Why Santa?

Sagittarius is one of the 12 signs included in our charts. In this area of your horoscope, which depends on your time of birth, you are Santa Claus. It’s a valid and awesome energy.

Santa is the energy of openness, of exploration, of generosity. It is the energy that causes us to seek meaning, to ask “why?”

What’s unusual about the Santa myth in our culture is that it is so intensely developed only to be destroyed later.

Are we then saying to our children that you can’t trust that anyone would truly give you gifts with no strings attached?

Have you ever bought something for someone, off season, for no reason with no strings attached? What was the reaction?

Santa Energy

Building up then destroying our Santa energy suggests a lack of balance. Santa energy is one of many energies that exist. If we were, say, a pagan culture, we’d have Santa energy and a host of other energies to counterbalance the abundance and indulgence of Santa. The beauty is that Santa energy would then exist permanently.

In a way, the energy does exist permanently in our culture. We have children and then bring the myth to them. The destruction of that energy and recreation only to destroy again is what is odd.

As an adult, you don’t “believe” in Santa. You merely experience his energy through your children.

There is a Santa Claus

There is a Santa Claus. You can believe in him always. “He” is an energy, the energy of generous abundance but also the energy of irresponsible indulgence. He seeks meaning “above the world” but can also get lost in the clouds.

Santa says that it’s okay to indulge sometimes. During the dreary late November and early December, as the day shortens, indulgence in a few pleasures helps us make it through the darkness.

Have some bourbon-laced eggnog this year, full of fats, sugars and alcohol. Enjoy. Just don’t do it all year.

J. Edgar Hoover – the Power of Secrets

Slate had an interesting article today about J. Edgar Hoover and his long-time male companion, Clyde Tolson. Hoover was a lifelong bachelor as was Tolson. Hoover and Tolson vacationed and socialized together and were generally accepted as a couple.

Were they homosexual?

No one knows, definitively, if they actually performed the act that would make them homosexual – sex.

Does one need to have sex to be homosexual? If Hoover and Tolson were asexual friends who cared neither for sex nor the company of women could they be deemed homosexual?

What’s most interesting to me about this situation is that Hoover carried out a lifelong male companionship in the open.

How did he do it?

Others kept his secret, I believe, simply because, as head of what is now called the FBI for 48 years, he kept the secrets of others.

Hoover’s sun is in Capricorn and moon in Pisces. Hoover’s chart consists of earth, water and air signs. He has no fire signs. Fire relates to confidence and energy. Fire is in-your-face aggressive. Hoover was not.

Capricorn is sign of the zodiac associated with career and success. The most important recognition for a Capricorn is respect. Capricorn likes to be in control and is known to hold back emotion to handle life in a cold and calculating manner. More than smart, Capricorn is shrewd.

Pisces is not like Capricorn. It is sensitive and empathetic feeling every emotion and reaction in the environment. Because of that, moon in Pisces often retreats from the world to shed the psychic debris collected in regular human interaction. Pisces can be manipulative and/or easily manipulated through emotions. Pisces feels pity for the people of the world and often feels self-pity as well.

Hoover appears to have protected his emotional, sensitive and possibly homosexual self by learning the secrets of others. In other words, he blackmailed himself some privacy. If, in 1924, you wanted to remain and bachelor and socialize exclusively with another male, would you put yourself in the public eye?

Hoover was obviously shrewd. Putting himself in the public eye at the top of the “public eye” allowed him to live any damn life he wanted. Clever.

Hoover’s moon in Pisces is squared by Pluto in Gemini. Hard moon-Pluto aspects are Ohio Astrology’s “mark of a politician.” This aspect suggests a difficult time with the mother with unmet early emotional needs and, in response, a need to control the environment.

The strong Capricorn sun drove Hoover to reach the top, the goal of Capricorn. Top of the ladder, top of the heap, it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s the top.

Hoover’s Mars in Taurus opposite Saturn in Scorpio suggest frustrations in two areas: 1) money and 2) sensuality. This aspect suggests forced but reluctant sharing of money. Maybe Hoover himself was blackmailed or maybe his partner spent all his money. It would be interesting to see in what houses this aspect resides. This we can’t know without the time of birth.

Hoover’s Pluto, Neptune and Jupiter are all in Gemini, the sign of communication. His generation made great strides in communication. Hoover was part of that stride, the covert part. Gathering intelligence and spying involves communication and advanced techniques. That’s the Pisces.

For me, the astrological chart is like the DNA of the personality. It’s fascinating to see how we adapt to the world through our personality. In the end, you have to be you. I don’t know if Hoover was homosexual, but he definitely acquired the privacy and protection to live his life as he wanted.

It’s only too bad he didn’t allow others the same privilege.

Barbie and her Handler

The Astrological Essence of Barbie

Barbie, the blonde beauty doll, was (according to Wikipedia) debuted at the New York Toy Fair on March 9, 1959. I set her “birth time” at 8:00 am although I’m well aware that toy fair attendees who have a chance to party in New York City do not often get up early.

Barbie has both sun and moon in Pisces. Our plastic friend is both the best and worst of Pisces. In her blonde beauty, she is the essence of Piscean etherealness. In her role as a non-speaking, non-sentient projected representation of a mythic ideal, she is manipulating us with images.

Barbie’s ascendant is Aries which indicates her assertive nature. Neptune, the planet that rules Pisces, is in the 7th house of partnerships in the sign of Scorpio. Barbie is a dependent entity, whose “other” is in the throes of idealistic and sometimes deluded sexual attraction.

The 12th house is where Barbie’s sun and moon reside indicating that she hides her true self. In Pisces, she probably doesn’t really know her own self anyway. She’s so sensitive to the environment that she must hide inside a cocoon of plastic.

Barbie is now 52 years old with nary a wrinkle to show for it. She is Piscean otherworldly.

Ruth Handler

Barbie was created by a woman named Ruth Handler. Handler had sun in Scorpio and moon probably in Pisces.

Both Scorpio and Pisces are sensitive water signs. Scorpio is intense and passionate. With moon in Pisces, this is a person who can read every twitch of your eyelashes and divine your feelings. It’s a super-sensitive combination that must be treated like radioactive material lest you have to answer for every word, comment and twitch made in her presence.

Handler, no surprise, had Venus in Libra. Venus is the planet representing how we like our pleasures and Libra is ruled by Venus so delights in this placement. Handler probably loved beauty and luxury and most likely spent great amounts of money on beautiful items.

So far, Barbie is a delightful projection of a woman who felt deeply and enjoyed beauty.

While an emotional person, Handler also shows a rebellious streak in her horoscope. Uranus in Aquarius and Mars in Sagittarius examine the world, have unique ideas, and follow an inner call. Handler may have moon in Aquarius which would make her more eccentric and independent than an emotional, needy Pisces moon.

One aspect in Handler’s chart veers slightly from the essence of Barbie. Saturn and Neptune are conjunct in Leo suggesting that Handler’s self-esteem and self-confidence were challenged by authority while growing up. She may have had a stern parent who told her to keep her grandiose schemes for another lifetime. If that was the case, it’s good that Handler followed her Uranus/Mars sextile and followed a unique path.

Scorpio is an extremely determined sign, so even without the Uranus/Mars aspect, she probably would have told her foes and distractors what they could do with their opinions.

Barbie’s Neptune Transit

Barbie is an ethereal beauty that needs no justification or purpose. Barbie does not teach us to be wives or mothers. She is simply female.

Neptune, the planet that rules Pisces, is just entering the sign of Pisces for a nice 15 year transit. As Neptune transits Barbie’s sun and moon, her ethereal beauty will continue to resonate in a world experiencing the collapse and transformation of its structures.

Beauty will see us through.

Note to Herman Cain – Mars is now in Virgo

It’s time Herman Cain, Republican Presidential Candidate, learn a little astrology.

This month, Mercury and Venus entered the sign of Sagittarius. For Sagittarian sun Cain, that is good news. If his mouth had to be fueled manually, you might say Mercury and Venus were bringing a batch of coal for the fire.

That’s the good news. Now for the bad, which Cain has probably already noticed, although not in astrological form.

Mars will enter Virgo this Saturday. Remember, Cain, when you rose in the polls and felt like a million bucks? That was during your Mars return. Your natal Mars is in Leo which trines your sun and says that you generally feel good about yourself and take actions that enhance your confidence (believe it or not, not everyone does this). Mars transiting Leo added energy to this already energetic aspect.

Mars in Virgo, on the other hand, squares Sagittarius. Mars in Virgo will cramp your style, even more than today.

Pretty soon (mid-December) Mars will create a T-square with your expressive, impulsive Sagittarian sun and erratic, unpredictable Uranus in Gemini.

I will sum it up simply – time to talk DETAILS.

If you want to pass this test, Mr. Cain, you’re going to have to cough up factoids that appear to be details. You are going to have to talk in specifics, not generalities.

Whether your moon is in Pisces or Aries, this Mars will then oppose that moon. You will be seeing more emotional reactions from those around you, especially women.

Also, Saturn in Libra is conjunct your natal Jupiter in Libra. Usually you get along with people, right? They may need a little time to get used to you, but generally like you and find you attractive, right? What’s going on?

What’s Going On?

Astrologically Mars is creating friction. In politics, this means that you have to accept that not everyone will like you. Sagittarius deep down does want to get along with everybody.

What’s the solution?

Politically and astrologically I would suggest determining your story, all the facts, and repeat endlessly. No changes, no outbursts.

This aspect is challenging your Sagittarius sun to walk the talk, as it’s said. Sagittarius talks and has lofty ideals, but often fails at its own rules. Luckily Sagittarius isn’t judgmental of itself or others. However, others will take to you to the cross for saying you don’t like tomatoes then putting ketchup on your hamburger.

Get it?

The Astrological Reality of Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian was in the news again. Who the heck is this woman? I keep asking and I keep forgetting the answer.

Wikipedia calls her a “businesswoman, socialite, television personality, model, and actress.”

Kardashian has done something I haven’t heard mentioned since the 1980’s – she’s created her own reality. Creating a reality show clearly brings the actual reality with it.

Libra and Pisces

Kardashian has sun in Libra and moon in Pisces (according to Astrotheme). Just yesterday I looked at a chart with the exact same sun and moon placement – the chart of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Libra is the sign of partnership. Pisces is the sign of emotional merging. Combined is a person who likes to be with others, all the time. This is someone who does not want to sit at the bar alone waiting for you to arrive. Chances are she will be late anyway as Libra spends a lot of time on appearance.

All animals have defense mechanisms, as do people. Not all defenses are ugly and smelly, like the scent of a skunk. For Libra and Pisces, defenses take the form of charming, maneuvering and subtly moving events in a certain direction. Neither sign is openly confrontational.

Libra and Pisces on combination may fear being the outcast and fear discord. Libra just doesn’t like when things are ugly and Pisces picks up everything from the environment and internalizes it.

I suspect, like Berlusconi, Kardashian’s emotions change quickly, can be manipulative but also can be manipulated by others.

Both Libra and Pisces are artistic, poetic and dreamy. Those around Kardashian must take care of the bills, getting the walls re-painted and checking on that leak in the roof. She may notice these things, but definitely is not interested in putting on some work gloves and doing home repairs. She’d much prefer to be socializing amongst and small and carefully-chosen group of beautiful friends, drinking wine and sharing in each other’s artistic creations.

Pluto Influence

Kardashian’s Libra sun is conjunct Pluto. Saturn is also in Libra, but not in conjunction. This adds intensity and compulsion to the Libra energy. Libra likes a partner. Libra with Pluto in tow MUST have a partner at all times. And that partner must be partner-like in the way Kardashian wants. And what she wants goes from yin to yang in the blink of an eye.

Pluto on the sun also suggests issues with authority and specifically the father. Kardashian probably grew up with a very controlling father and is probably seeking a controlling mate to guide her in life.

Boundaries

Kardashian definitely has what are called “boundary issues.” Pluto on the sun suggests she’s been psychically invaded and may do the same to others through lack of understanding. Pisces moon suggests she picks up every emotion from the environment and may have trouble knowing what is hers and what is not.

Kardashian also has a T-square with moon (in Pisces), Jupiter (in Virgo) and Neptune (in Sagittarius). When emotional pressure and anxiety are too great, Kardashian may resort to escape in the form of travel, daydream or drugs.

Kardashian is a person who may one day question her own identity. Like a 1950’s housewife who one day realizes that she has sacrificed herself for others, Kardashian may wonder what this period of “reality TV” was really about.

With Saturn transiting her Pluto and sun, that time may be now.

Kardashian may need to separate out of her personality those elements that are truly not hers but that she may have gotten from her father. She’s probably fallen repeatedly into relationships where someone else tells her what to do. She’s not used to deciding for herself although she may be constantly reacting to the controlling people around her. Taking decisive action and simply reacting to external stimulus are two different things. Picking a controlling partner so that you can do the opposite of everything they say is also not decisive action.

What’s the reality?

Kardashian is portraying a reality. But who’s reality is it, I wonder? Is it what she really wants, or what those around her want?

Whether on TV or not, Libra and Pisces often must ask themselves this question.

Silvio Berlusconi is Italy

Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy, is receiving pressure to step down. Berlusconi has been in power for 18 years and, according to the Wikipedia entry, has dealt with allegations of false testimony, bribery, Mafia connections, media control, economic conflicts of interest and sex with minors.

Sounds like a pope.

Italy is romanticized in so many movies you sometimes forget it’s the land of the Roman Empire, a religion that has been involved in politics for centuries and extensive organized crime. The history of Italy and its warring city-states is anything but romantic.

Berlusconi is Italy

Berlusconi, however, is a romantic. He has sun in Libra and moon in Pisces. This is not a person I would have put at the top of the political food chain. I’d have assumed, if I’d looked at the horoscope without knowing him, that he would be an artist or some other profession that lived on ideals and poetry and the couches of friends.

He’s not tough. Berlusconi’s ability to navigate the rough land of Italy is based on his ability to do Libra things (charm, avoid, rationalize, party with) and Pisces things (avoid, manipulate, charm, mesmerize, soothe, empathize with, have psychic insight into).

Pisces is an extremely emotional sign that picks up the vibes in any environment. Neither Pisces nor Libra has strong boundaries. This combination of Libra/Pisces suggests that Berlusconi is mirroring and absorbing what’s around him. If he’s bad, the environment is bad. If he is good, the environment is good.

Saturn conjunct moon in Pisces suggests that Berlusconi had a mother who did not provide Berlusconi the emotional support he needed and/or cut Berlusconi off from his own emotions in some way. Neptune opposing the Saturn/moon conjunction suggests Berlusconi suffers, at times, sadness and depression.

Transits

Saturn has finished passing over Berlusconi’s sun. You’d think the contraction of his relationships would have culminated by now.

Saturn will move onto his Venus in Scorpio next summer. If he wants to enjoy the girls, he’d better do it soon. This doesn’t bode well for the sex life.

Neptune is in Pisces but will not transit Berlusconi’s moon for about six more years. He’d been 81 at that time. Maybe in his 80s he will transmute that Piscean skill at manipulation (of the political environment) into Piscean spirituality.

Pluto transiting Capricorn is squaring Berlusconi’s Libra sun. Authority and rules are causing friction in his life, harming his Libra ability to enjoy himself.

Pluto trines Berlusconi’s natal Mars in Virgo, so maybe he will weather this storm. He can use his Virgo love of details to crush all the arguments of his opponents.

Mars in Virgo is interested in work and health. With that Pisces energy in his chart, I’m guessing he’s a hypochondriac, always worried about germs and dirt.

Why don’t politicians ever want to retire?

When I look at aging politicians, I always wonder why they can’t retire. Most of us want to and those that can, don’t. Crazy world.

While there is a different reason for every politician, I would guess Berlusconi stays in power for the Piscean need for love and attention and the Venus in Scorpio need for good sex. His chart suggests one who loves sensual pleasures, socializing and parties.

I don’t see why Berlusconi can’t get these things without being Prime Minister.

Italy will be the same without him.

Where’s Hillary?

Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, hasn’t been in the news much lately.

I missed her last big news story where she apparently is in a photo taken while she and others watched Osama bin Laden being murdered. Clinton has hand to mouth with a shocked expression on her face. Her ostensible reason is that she was holding back a nasty cough.

Or maybe watching a man die is shocking. If that’s what the photograph is showing, a group watching Osama bin Laden being murdered, then shock seems in order. What’s shocking, then, are the expressions on the other, male, faces.

A Watery Person

Clinton is a Scorpio, a fixed water sign, with moon in Pisces, a mutable water sign. Whether or not she was gaping in terror at a man being killed, Clinton is an emotional being.

Clinton also has air (Uranus in Gemini and Neptune in Libra) and fire (Mars, Pluto and Saturn in Leo and Jupiter in Sagittarius) in her horoscope.

What Clinton lacks is earth.

The life Clinton is currently leading, flying all over the world without roots, probably suits her well. She doesn’t really want to stay home and garden.

Clinton has six of the ten planets in fixed signs indicating a strong, determined and stubborn personality. The Mars/Pluto/Saturn conjunction in Leo suggests a nasty fighter. Topped with vengeful Scorpio and insightful Pisces, this woman can see the threads that bind you and cut them apart when necessary.

Transits

Saturn will be transiting Clinton’s sun in December 2012. Does that date ring a bell? By then, the next presidential election will be over. Astrotheme puts Clinton’s sun in the 5th house of creativity. In December 2012, she may find a contraction of that creativity.

Astrotheme’s chart would put the transiting Pluto in the 7th house, transiting Uranus in the 10th and transiting Saturn in the 4th (which form a T-square).

Since I know what she does for a living and how it’s dependent on the election, I suspect her public role may change – voluntarily or involuntarily.

There also seem to be relationship changes in store which affect family life. Those changes will affect her sense of self (Saturn on sun).

Age 65

Next year Hillary will be 65. Maybe she will retire, as that used to be the age when the common folks could begin to relax, collect some Social Security and dip into those bulging 401Ks. Oh, the nostalgia of it!

Whatever occurs in December 2012 Clinton may enjoy in the long-term. Neptune will be transiting that Pisces moon in several years. Possibly the end of 2012 will be the beginning of something new.

Sarkozy and Merkel – the Astrology Behind the Relationship

Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France, and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, have been spending a lot of time together recently, tête-à-tête.

It’s an astrological match made in heaven. I do not know how traditional matchmakers (in countries that use horoscopes) decide compatibility. There’s what you want and what you need. Matchmakers, I assume, support the gender roles that society strives to maintain.

For example, if you are a fire sign, maybe you want another passionate drama-king/queen for a partner. But is that good? Will too much fire explode like Mentos in Pepsi?

Sarkozy and Merkel have very different personalities but lots of nice aspects. They are born six months apart which means the outer planets are in similar positions. Astrologically that means they share the same “times” and do not have generation gaps.

In general, Sarkozy is an extroverted show off type, who exhibits but essentially remains detached. Merkel is a more emotional, comforting and caring individual who is able to restrain her sentimentality.

Energizing Relationship

Sarkozy, according to Astrotheme, has moon in Aries. His sun is in Aquarius. Merkel is a Cancer sun with moon in Aquarius. In a traditional view of a traditional marriage, the woman’s moon on the man’s sun is a good sign of compatibility.

Merkel’s Mars in Sagittarius conjuncts Sarkozy’s Venus in Sagittarius. She finds him attractive, fun and approachable. He finds her energizing, maybe because of her feelings toward him.

Sarkozy’s Jupiter is conjunct Merkel’s sun. Merkel find Sarkozy accepting of her emotional nature and comforting toward her emotions.

Sarkozy and Merkel simply are comfortable with each other and enjoy each other’s company. After the public life of each is over, they will probably meet on holidays for a drink in the sun.

Emotional Differences

Merkle is much more emotional than Sarkozy, having Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus and the sun in Cancer. However, this nature is offset by her moon in the rational air sign of Aquarius. Merkel has emotional reactions galore, but is able to react with detachment and composure (quite a feat).

Sarkozy has a rational demeanor (sun in Aquarius) but has aggressive, angry reactive nature from the moon in Aries. He’s one to blow off the handle if, say, the door handle doesn’t turn properly.

Sarkozy’s aggressive Aries moon is distasteful to a Cancer personality as Cancer wants everyone to get along. Cancer is like a border collie nosing the group into a unit. Sarkozy is independent and Merkle is a collaborator.

Communication Style Differences

Merkel with Mercury in Cancer is an emotional, relating communicator. Sarkozy has Mercury in Aquarius opposite Pluto in Leo square Saturn in Scorpio which means that he can be both unusual in his communication style and by turns combative and controlling in speech.

Sarkozy should let Merkel do the talking.

Obama Visit

Barack Obama is visiting Europe this week for the Group of 20 Summit in Cannes and will be spending some time with both Sarkozy and Merkel.

Obama’s sun is opposite Sarkozy’s sun while Obama’s Saturn opposite Merkle’s sun. Obama’s moon in Gemini makes little aspect to either Sarkozy’s or Merkel’s charts.

These oppositions suggest that both Sarkozy and Merkel will find Obama difficult to deal with. He will be on the other side of the fence in terms of personality, if not politics.

Obama’s Jupiter in Aquarius is a wide aspect to both Sarkozy’s sun and Merkel’s moon. Obama may talk to both leaders in the idealistic, abstract terms that they both admire. However, in action, Obama will feel like an opposite and external challenge to both leaders.

Obama’s Pluto is conjunct Merkel’s Venus (in Virgo). Obama’s Mars is in Virgo as well. Obama will be quite aggressive with Merkel, especially in terms of the details. My mental image is of two people working on a crossword together. She’s having fun, but for him it becomes a compulsion. He’s got to figure out every last word without peeking at the answers.

The Sign of the Zodiac Most Likely to Like Its Own Sign of the Zodiac is . . .

Back in the 1960s and 1970s when, for a short period of time, reverence of business was partially eclipsed by a drug-fueled quest for spirituality, talk of astrology did not raise as many eyebrows as it does today.

Way, way, back then, you might even see a velvet poster on a bedroom wall indicating the inhabitant’s sign of the zodiac.

Times have changed.

Even as a young one, I noticed astrology. From my many years of observation, there are two indicators that an individual both knows his/her sign of the zodiac and relates to it in a positive way:

  1. Astrology branded items such as posters and key chains
  2. Tattoos

The Two Signs Most Likely to Like Their Sign

With these two indicators in mind, there are two signs who both know their sign of the zodiac and like it:

  1. Leo
  2. Scorpio

You’ve seen a Scorpio/scorpion tattoo, right? A lion on a T-shirt?

Have you ever seen a tattoo or keychain of these signs of the zodiac?

  • Ram
  • Bull
  • Twins
  • Mother
  • Virgin
  • Scales
  • Archer
  • Goat
  • Water bearer
  • Fishes swimming in opposite directions

Chicken and Egg Question

This begs the chicken and egg question. Do Leo (the Lion) and Scorpio (the Scorpion) relate to their signs because those signs are cool? Or do they relate to their signs because they are Leos (ego) and Scorpios (even more ego)?

Which comes first?

If Capricorn the Goat, for example, were Capricorn the King (like Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon), would they too have embraced astrology? Maybe even gotten a tattoo or at least a bumper sticker?

Don’t let it keep you up at night

Instead of tossing and turning with this question, go ahead and ask people their signs. See what you find.
