Everything You Need to Know About Astrology You Learned Waking Up This Morning

I don’t have to get up as early as I used to, so my life has been “slip sliding away” into some lazy behaviors. I blame the nice weather, but as a Capricorn I know discipline comes from within so I decided to set my alarm to wake up at an earlier time.

The alarm, then, represents discipline.

SATURN

As I don’t transition from dreamtime to wake time easily, often upon hearing my alarm it takes me a while to remember who I am and what day it is.

The alarm is Saturn because it has set a limit to my sleep. Remembering who I am and what day it is brings me back to REALITY. You must get up. You must go to work. You must, you must . . .

Saturn is a slap in the face, like your alarm. It’s not a Uranian awakening to intuitive levels. It’s an awakening to the world of the five senses. It’s the three dimensional world in which your body resides.

You are you, it’s late, get your butt up, it’s time for work.

MERCURY

Next, for me, comes Mercury. After I remember who I am, the thoughts begin to flood in –

OMG, I’m late. I’ve got to shower. Should I eat breakfast here, or buy something on the way to save time? Crap, I was going to go in early today to work on that document. I’ll just skip lunch instead. Is that meeting at 1 or 2? Cat, get out from under my feet. I’ll feed you. Just let me wake up.

And on and on.

Mercury is the wing-footed messenger of those things we call thoughts. He’s flying around in my head wiping away all traces of last night’s dreams.

SUN

Remembering who I am is the sun.

I am not sitting on a beach in Cancun sipping margaritas living la vie boheme having made millions writing an astrology book. That was a dream.

No, I’m the person who does this and that and needs to get up to do it. What will I wear today to look both stunning and professional at that important meeting?

That reminds me that I’d better slap my name all over that report so my boss doesn’t take credit for it.

MOON

The moon is about reaction and comfort. The alarm says, “Get out of bed” and the moon says, “I don’t want to get out of bed? Why do I have to?”

Sounds like a child, right?

It’s more comfortable to stay in bed every morning. If we didn’t have Saturn in our charts, we might spend our whole lives in bed, not doing anything that caused the least discomfort.

When the alarm goes off, that scenario doesn’t sound too bad. Writing about it now, it seems positively appalling. I’m glad I listened to Saturn.

Food is comfort. No surprise that it’s often our hunger that gets us out of bed.

JUPITER AND VENUS

As I write, I see that Jupiter and Venus visit me together so I will explain them together.

As Mercury tells me of all that I need to do, I think about all the ways I can do it. I then start to see how I can derive a little pleasure (Venus) from a busy day and then even plan lots of extra activities I will never have time for (Jupiter).

I’ll stop and get something for breakfast. That will save me time. Plus a McDonald’s bacon-egg-cheese bagel and coffee is more appealing during my mad rush than oatmeal and tea.

That’s Jupiter saying, “Yes, indulge.”

Saturn is the opposite that says, “No, it’s not good for you.” I left Saturn sitting at the alarm clock so now Jupiter is running free.

So I’ll stop and get breakfast, skip lunch to prepare for that meeting which will allow me to leave on time!

Yeah, sure.

Since I’m going to leave on time, I’ll go out tonight. I’ll call some friends and see if they want to do dinner. I forgot I need to pick up my laundry, books from the library, get cat food and call my dad. I’ll just do that before dinner. My, what nice weather we’re having today. I’ll see if my friends want to go for a walk before dinner.

Way too much. Venus is the pleasure I want to have and Jupiter is the planet leading me to believe not only that I can have pleasure, but lots of it, in this limited 24-hour time period we call “a day.”

MARS

Mars is the God of War. You probably have already figured out where Mars first occurs in your busy day.

The drive to work.

The drives to and from work are called “rush hour.” Mars is goal-oriented action. I’m going from home to work (and back) in the least time possible. Get out of my way so I can get there more quickly. And if you don’t get out of my way, I will give you the finger.

Now that I write, I realize that most angry faces and fingers directed at my driving do occur early morning.

Mars on coffee makes it all worse.

Enough said.

THE OUTER PLANETS (URANUS, NEPTUNE, PLUTO)

The outer planets relate to the “times” and generational cycles and patterns. Kind of like the business cycle.

You don’t meet the outer planets in the morning, per se, but the energy of the times is the backdrop of your morning.

Pluto

Pluto is currently transiting Capricorn and destroying this thing we call “the economy.” So as I lay in bed fighting with my moon which wants to lie there and dream, Mercury brings a message from Pluto: “You’d better get your butt into work. If you are late, they will fire you and hire one of the 500 people who want your job.”

Uranus

Uranus is currently transiting Aries, causing impulsive actions directed toward enhancing the sense of self. After thinking about the 500 people who want my job I now tell Mercury, “Let them have it. It sucks anyway. I’m going to write an astrology book and sit on a beach somewhere, not necessarily in that order.”

Neptune

Neptune is teeter tottering between Aquarius and Pisces, moving into Pisces. Neptune in its own sign is about spirituality. Thinking about it, I tell Mercury that it would be better for me not to sell my soul to the devil we call the workplace. I want to do something spiritual anyway, like sell all my possessions and visit spiritual sites across the world!

It is important to let go of Neptune before the drive to work. Misty dreaming doesn’t help with focused driving.

Congratulations, you now know astrology!

Congratulations on reading this far. You now know astrology. Now get to work, you’re late!

Romney and Obama – Nothing in Common

I didn’t see the debates last night so have scanned the news coverage. The coverage seems slanted toward Romney, probably because he is leading in the polls.

The New York Times headlined their story “Romney Looks Past Rivals as Debate Focuses on Economy.” The Washington Post story is titled “Mitt Romney solidifies his front-runner status in Republican debate.”

How does one “look past rivals” and “solidify front-runner status” during a debate? Isn’t “winning a debate” in the eyes of the beholder?

I’m probably just getting politically rusty as I haven’t followed an election this closely in a long time. Or maybe I’m just sad that it’s being decided so quickly ending the fun.

It’s clearly about Romney.

It’s About Romney, stupid

Comparing the charts of two individuals to determine compatibility is called synastry.

Obama has sun in Leo (fixed fire) and moon in Gemini (mutable air). Leo is strong, proud and needs to be center of attention. Gemini is about mental agility and seeks constant stimulation.

Romney has sun in Pisces (mutable water) and moon, probably, in Scorpio (fixed water). Pisces is sensitive, emotional and empathetic. Scorpio is emotional, intense, perceptive and vengeful.

These two don’t have much in common. Obama is fire and air while Romney is entirely water.

With ten planets in each chart, there is a lot to compare. It’s interesting, though, how little these two are connected. It’s almost like they are different species or from different planets.

Communication

Romney’s Uranus in on Obama’s moon (in Gemini) and his Saturn is on Obama’s Mercury (in Leo). Romney’s Uranus squares his own Mercury (in Pisces) and Obama’s Mars (in Virgo) opposes that Mercury.

I can’t wait to watch these two argue. When I watch the US presidential “debates,” I see only individual monologues and very little debating. I suspect if/when Romney and Obama debate, there will be more actual debating with lots of facts thrown out to foil the other. Mental and verbal fencing will occur.

Romney appears to have the upper hand with his Saturn on Obama’s Mercury. He seems to intimidate Obama intellectually. It feels as if Romney knows a secret about Obama (Pisces and Scorpio both love secrets) and speaking around the rim of that secret keeps Obama from getting too nasty in response.

(This energy excites me, as a voter. A real debate would be cool. I never thought I’d say it but I will — I miss William F. Buckley Jr. He knew how to throw a debate. I’d also love to see someone like Christopher Hitchens ask real questions and challenge rehearsed answers. I’d cancel my plans to watch that debate.)

Dominance

Romney’s Pluto (in Leo) is on Obama’s sun. Obama’s Mars (in Virgo) is opposite Romney’s sun (in Pisces). Obama’s Pluto (in Virgo) is opposite Romney’s Mars (in Pisces).

These aspects suggest a fight for dominance. I know, duh. This time it’s going to be very intense and maybe even a little nastier than usual. Some of the nasty may be plays the voter never sees.

Romney will have an almost animal instinct about how to trigger Obama. Romney’s political connections will also make it difficult for Obama. Romney will fight in a covert, mafia sort of way. He will be attacking Obama’s pride.

Obama will attack more openly. He will try to lure Romney from the environment where he is protected. Obama’s efforts to force Romney to admit certain things will probably fail as Pisces is good at emotional empathy and appearing the victim.

Pisces and Scorpio are manipulative. Leo and Gemini are better at making up complicated, colorful stories to move attention onto other subjects. We’ll see which prevails.

Transits

It’s interesting to me that the current transiting cardinal T-square of Pluto (in Capricorn), Uranus (in Aries) and Saturn (in Libra) doesn’t have a profound impact on either of these men’s charts. Maybe that’s why they have the energy to run for President. The rest of us are laboring in jobs and relationships under this transit.

Uranus in Aries energizes both men. Neptune in Pisces will be affecting Romney, but that’s not here yet. If he does win the presidency, he will probably rule like a religious leader.

Saturn in Libra is squaring Obama’s natal Saturn in Capricorn. His role in the world is challenging to his relationships. When he’s done being president, he will probably have to make a new set of friends as this set will move out of his sphere.

Nothing in Common

The synastry makes me suspect that Romney has some very powerful supporters who can move events. Obama might want to have a fair fight, but it’s not going to be fair.

Once the fight is over, these two will probably never interact again. They have nothing in common.

Republican Presidential Candidate Debate: The Ohio Astrology Prep Sheet

As a public service, Ohio Astrology has put together this Republican Presidential Candidate Debate Prep Sheet for use by any of the candidates. Ohio Astrology is offering advice, free, to the candidates based on the idea that they should express their true selves.

Disclaimer: Ohio Astrology is not responsible for the reactions caused by being one’s true self. Information provided is based on knowing date of birth only, not actual time of birth.

Check out the Politicians – Republican Presidential Candidates section for blogs on candidates’ charts.

In alphabetical order:

Michele Bachmann

DO: Express that zany Aquarius moon and aggressive Aries sun. Now that Palin has confirmed she is not running, soak up her Aquarian quirky femininity like an alligator soaks up the sun after a meal of human flesh. You are a noisemaker so make some noise. It’s your last chance.

DON’T: Interrupt or look pushy. It’s better to appear unusual than hysterical. Unusual is maverick, hysterical will brand you “female,” a liability for a US Presidential candidate.

Herman Cain

DO: Dress as dashing as possible and wear your fire-sign dignity on your sleeve like a 5-star general wears a pentagon of stars. To the viewers, ask the question, “If the Chinese were to invade tomorrow, which one of us would you want to see leading the troops?”

DON’T:  Don’t yell, just speak with dignity. Don’t wear fake sentimentality. You’re the one they want leading the troops, right?

Newt Gingrich

DO: Continue to show the Republican Party how Gemini-Sagittarius intellectual ability can be useful in a president. You know facts about stuff which sets you apart from your colleagues. Explain why knowledge of subjects, say history, can help in the role of president.

DON’T:  Get flip or smug. You may know more than the others on the stage, but your party doesn’t like people who are flip or smug. Save that for the blackjack table.

Jon Huntsman

DO: Tell the audience tales of your Aries bravery, especially if you’ve saved someone’s life. Republican “debates” are not really debates, so tell a Mars-like war story as one of your answers. Let the viewers see and hear about your boundless energy and self-assurance.

DON’T: Let them see your cruel side. Be nice.

Gary Johnson

DO: Allow the audience to see that you are a serious Capricorn person. Don’t put on false frivolity. In fact, explain why the country needs a grounded, realistic president. Appear traditional by comparing yourself to the Founding Fathers.

DON’T: Appear too staid. Serious is your style but boring is bad. Make sure to laugh a little, especially at yourself.

Ron Paul

DO: Show that you are unflappable in the most extreme circumstances due to an abundance of fixed signs. Compare yourself to revered presidents past and show how you possess the same fixed sign qualities of fortitude and determination.

DON’T: Get too intense. Feel the mood of the room and find a way to adapt your responses to the mood. It’s about the people, right?

Rick Perry

DO: Admit to your vulnerable Pisces nature. Sometimes when answering questions you appear, how shall we say it, not too sharp. Looking at your chart, I suspect it’s simply Virgo moon nerves. Admit it, you’re human, you get nervous. If you didn’t, you’d be a sociopath, right? In other words, be your sensitive self.

DON’T: Use the canned answers you are fed. Answer honestly instead of repeating pre-packaged responses you don’t really feel deeply about.

Buddy Roemer

DO:  Admit that you like to collaborate like a Libra with others, than you’re not a renegade. What’s wrong, really, with seeking others’ opinions and collaborating on decisions? Dare to say “multilateral.”

DON’T: Forget to say “I” instead of “we.” Collaboration is good. Accountability is also good and means saying, “I.”

Mitt Romney

DO: Like Perry, admit to having feelings and sensitivity. Pretending you don’t will make you look weak as you try to look stoic. Show your intense Pisces and Scorpio passion for the things you care about.

DON’T: Look to your wife for confidence. Get it from inside.

Rick Santorum

DO: Express how ideas that appear extremely traditional can, if fact, be quite radical. Explain, for example, how it’s radical to believe in simplicity or to stop drinking coffee. Just explain yourself – you’re difficult to understand with fixed Aquarius squaring your fixed earth.

DON’T: Let your mind wander while others are talking. Most importantly, don’t forget that others will try to synthesize ideas in ways that you don’t. Prepare to explain how you put the pieces of the puzzle together differently.

Prince Harry is Growing Up

After his brother Prince William’s marriage, the press turned their heads to Prince Harry to check in on his marriage plans. Royal weddings are rare, as is royalty itself. Royal weddings are like comets, they come around only once or twice in a lifetime. Even if you don’t like comets or royal weddings, you have to at least take a glance.

Prince Harry is reported as saying he didn’t plan to get married for a long time.

I wonder what his chart says?

Marriage Plans?

As I write, transiting Saturn is in Libra sitting on top of Prince Harry’s Venus in Libra, like a hen on an egg. Something is incubating.

Venus in Libra suggests romantic ideals of partnership. Saturn on that Venus says contraction of the Libra urge to partner. Saturn is not associated with love and romance; Saturn is about grounding. Many astrologers look for a Saturn aspect in a chart or between charts to see if love will really become marriage.

If you think about it, contracting of romantic social life is exactly what marriage is about. Theoretically, you will date no longer; you will cease to flutter those flirtatious eyelashes.

There is some fire in Prince Harry’s chart – Uranus, Mars and Neptune are all in Sagittarius. That suggests love of travel and study. Trine that Venus, it also suggests love of things foreign, including people. As Saturn moves to the later degrees of Libra and into Scorpio, it will be in Prince Harry’s 9th house, the house ruled by Sagittarius.

A More Powerful Prince

Using Astrotheme’s horoscope, Pluto will cross Prince Harry’s ascendant around the beginning of 2013. Pluto on the ascendant makes one more powerful. On Prince Harry’s Capricorn ascendant, it suggests a coming into power itself as Capricorn rules authority and structure.

Pluto is currently transiting Prince Harry’s Jupiter in Capricorn in the 12th, the house of secrets. For all the British history I’ve been reading, I still don’t understand all the nuts and bolts of royalty (and, frankly, don’t care). This aspect suggests that some position of responsibility is being developed and the egg will hatch in about a year.

Maybe Prince Harry is being honest and instead of creating marriage plans, he’s making plans for something that actually takes him away from marriage, like a life in the church.

Prince Harry’s sun is in Virgo and moon in Taurus, both earth signs. Pluto coming into Capricorn will form a grand earth trine. The responsibility Harry will shoulder is something that he desires.

In other words, he’s going to grow up.

With moon in Taurus in the 4th and sun in Virgo in the 8th, Prince Harry appears to be responsible for family and group assets. Maybe this new responsibility involves overseeing a budget or assets.

Both Neptune and Uranus will be transiting Prince Harry’s 2nd house of money. Neptune is in Pisces and Uranus in Aries, quite different energies that are working in the same house. This new financial plan is both spiritual and innovative.

A Marriage Alliance?

Maybe, as in royal history, Prince Harry will marry the princess of another kingdom and combine the wealth and power of two countries. This little fairy tale fits nicely with the aspects occurring in Prince Harry’s chart: more power, more money and a grounded partnership.

I can’t wait. I love a royal marriage. A royal alliance would be even more delightful – the stuff of history.

If you want to start a cult, what sign should you be?

I’ve been interested in cults since I was a teenager, but it took me another decade to realize the word “cult” is simply a shortened version of “culture.” A cult, then, is a subculture. A nation’s culture is simply the current cult.

When a group is given the label “cult,” it’s usually because it threatens the dominant culture in some way (such as early Christianity) or has done something nasty.

One of the salient characteristics of a group deemed a cult is that it has control over the members’ environment. So Cult, capital C, involves separation in some way from the dominant culture. Those are the cults that make news.

If we consider that cults manifest both positively and negatively, there are many more cults in existence than reported. Some cults challenge the dominant culture in a more subtle fashion.

Looking at cult leaders who make the news, I found that fixed signs prevail.

Hey wait, isn’t that what you say about US Presidents and rulers of Latin American countries, Ohio Astrology?

Yes. But it makes sense. To rule a culture or a cult are the same thing. You need a fixed, strong, dominant and charismatic personality with unwavering beliefs. No waffling.

If you want to start a cult, you should have sun or moon in a fixed sign. TAURUS seems to do well in cult leadership.

Cult Leaders and Fixed Signs

The fixed signs are Taurus (earth), Leo (fire), Scorpio (water) and Aquarius (air).

Here are some men labeled “cult” leaders:

Charles Manson: sun in Scorpio, moon in Capricorn or Aquarius

David Koresh: sun in Leo, moon in Aquarius

Sun Myung Moon: sun in Pisces, moon in Taurus

Jim Jones: sun in Taurus, moon in Pisces or Aries

Marshall Applewhite: sun in Taurus, moon in Taurus

Cult Leader or Motivational Speaker?

When I pointed out to my Meetup astrologer that Manson never really killed anyone (that we know), he pointed out that you could then call him a “motivational speaker.” That’s hilarious and also true.

Manson, the Scorpio, persuaded others to kill. Jones and Applewhite convinced others to kill themselves. Koresh doesn’t appear to have had an interest in murder or suicide. Being a Leo, maybe he just wanted love. And Reverend Moon is clearly interested in earning money. My Korean friend told me that Moon offered to pay off the entire debt of South Korea if they would recognize his church.

The characteristics of each cult are based on the personality of its motivational leader.

Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite

Jones and Applewhite were born four days apart (May 13, 1931 and May 17, 1931 respectively). I don’t have a statistician hanging about, but it seems statistically relevant that two men born within a week would become cult leaders who convince a group of people to commit collective suicide.

The chart differences between the two men involve mostly the moon and house placements (which is dependent on time of birth, which I don’t have).

Jones had moon in Pisces or Aries. I’m guessing Pisces as his followers killed themselves by drinking poisoned liquid. Pisces is a water sign.

Applewhite had his followers kill themselves as the only way to “evacuate the earth” and have their souls picked up by a passing UFO to ascend to other levels (per Wikipedia).

Clearly Applewhite felt stifled by having both sun and moon in the fixed earth sign of Taurus. Saturn trines the sun and moon which would suggest someone grounded in reality, not someone fleeing reality.

The T-square in both mens’ charts consisting of Pluto/Jupiter (in Cancer), Saturn (in Capricorn) and Venus/Uranus (in Aries) does suggest a bad time in love, but I never would have guessed they’d get so upset as to want to leave the earth and take others with them. It’s almost as though disappointment in love made them challenge the loyalty of those around them. The ultimate challenge being, “If you loved me, you would kill yourself for me.”

If you want to start a cult, you should be . . .

So if you want to start a cult, you should be a fixed sign. If you decide cult leadership is not for you, fixed signs do well in other types of charismatic leadership such a politics and religion.

Kristen Stewart – Time to Leave the Nest

After two days of looking at bankers and banking institutions, I needed a break from such heavy subjects. Back to the movies!

Kristen Stewart, of Twilight fame, has sun in Aries and moon in Libra. She is also of the generation born with Uranus and Neptune conjunct in Capricorn. Additionally she has Saturn in Capricorn, adding to this energy cluster.

I’m much older than Stewart and have cast horoscopes for her tribe since they’ve been born. I wondered then and still wonder now how this Uranus/Neptune conjunction affects the perceptions of this generation. This generation may still be too young to understand the responsibilities that await them. Capricorn represents structures and duties, not visits to the beach.

For Stewart, this Capricorn energy squares both sun and moon creating a T-square. That’s quite a bit of tension. Let’s start with the sun and moon.

The sun in Aries says, “Me.” The moon in Libra says, “You.” This combination produces a desire for partnership and then a struggle with that partner for independence.  It’s a little selfish in the way of cats. When she’s in the mood, she wants to snuggle and close off the rest of the world. When snuggle-fulfilled, she’s ready to pioneer off without you, seeking new stimulation.

The Capricorn energy comes into this opposition with its favorite word (per astrologer Jeanne Avery) – SHOULD. Stewart may have worked out the ups and downs of her emotional nature just to have Saturn say, “This is the kind of relationship you SHOULD have.”

SHOULD is a word often used by authority, including parents. That Saturn squares the sun and moon suggests a powerful father who reins in the impulsiveness and romantic idealism of Aries/Libra.

Since I don’t have time of birth, I don’t know where all the Capricorn energy lies (i.e., in which house). Stewart may end up marrying someone much older and established, a Capricorn type.

The current transiting T-square of Pluto (in Capricorn), Uranus (in Aries) and Saturn (in Libra) falls into Stewart’s chart like a finely formed design template.

Uranus will be transiting the sun saying, “It’s about YOU.” Saturn transiting the moon says, “Don’t get stuck in a relationship” and Pluto transiting Uranus says, “Break the rules.”

Stewart will probably break some rules but will start to feel the heat from those around her, including her fans. When Pluto transits Saturn, some years from now, it will be time to break from those around her who keep saying SHOULD.

In other words, it’s time to leave the nest, the nest of protective close companions and parents. I don’t know the mechanics of being famous, but Stewart might also have an agent or other business manager who is both restricting and controlling her at this time.

The Saturn return, which occurs around age 28, will coincide, for Stewart, with Pluto in Capricorn. The Saturn return is seen as a time of settling down, working through one cycle of 3D karma and letting go of some of the self-restraints we brought into this life.

Stewart’s Saturn return will coincide with a Pluto transit. That’s powerful energy and it will be directed into the world in the form of authority and/or challenging authority.

Maybe Stewart has other creative ventures she’d like to branch into; with moon in Libra, there is a lot of artistic ability. Stewart’s Mars in Aquarius suggests unusual, unique pursuits. Combined Stewart may have a new art form up her sleeve.

Stewart has Pluto in Scorpio opposite Mercury in Taurus. Mercury in Taurus is a slow, methodical communicator. Pluto opposing that is urging her to be more profound and shocking in communication.

Stewart’s generation appears to have come into the world to mend the pieces of collapsed structures of the current Pluto in Capricorn transit. I’m glad they are here to do it. I’m of the Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Virgo and my purpose here is to spread anti-bacterial ointment across the world, not fix the economy and collapsing social order.

The challenges that await Stewart and her generation are tough. I’m glad they came in to help.

The Astrology of America’s Top Bankers

Controlling the top banks in the US means having a hand in the fate of the US economy. To me, that means we should get to know the men that control the banks. The top three banks, in order, currently are:

  1. Bank of America – Brian Moynihan, CEO
  2. JP Morgan Chase – Jamie Dimon, CEO
  3. Citigroup – Vikram Pandit, CEO

First let’s take a look at one of the greatest financiers in US history, J. P. Morgan.

J. P. Morgan

Pictures of J. P. Morgan portray him as the essence of the choleric personality type of the ancient four temperaments – irascible and impatient with frequent indigestion.

With sun in Aries and moon in Virgo, I’m guessing Morgan was a nervous, edgy guy. Aries moves quickly and Virgo worries so the tug and pull of these incompatible signs probably twisted Morgan’s intestines into a Celtic knot.

Morgan’s moon in Virgo and Mercury in Taurus may have provided his interest in finance. Interest only, as I will explain. As with Trump’s chart, you must look below the manifestation (interest in money) to see the underlying motivation. For Trump, that motivation is ideas and socializing.

For Morgan, that motivation is competition. Pluto, Venus and sun are in Aries with Jupiter and Mars in Leo. Neptune opposing the planets in Leo suggests Morgan was trying to impress a group. I see him as trying to get into an exclusive club.

Moon in Virgo trines Saturn in Scorpio creating a Yod with Pluto and Venus in Aries. Now I’m eager to read Morgan’s bio because I’m getting the sense that others tried to obstruct him and he won by sheer force. Saturn in Scorpio suggests he didn’t see clearly others’ motivations. However, it appears not to have hampered his success.

Modern Bankers

I found two things in common between the charts of Moynihan (Bank of America), Dimon (JP Morgan Chase) and Pandit (Citigroup): Aries/Mars and Capricorn.

J. P. Morgan was an Aries, the sign ruled by Mars. Mars is the Roman god of war, not commerce. Success in finance meant competition and winning. The accumulation of money or the pleasure of dealing with money was secondary.

Here’s the breakdown of Aries/Mars and Capricorn energy amongst our modern bankers:

Moynihan: Mars in Libra conjunct sun in Libra with Saturn and moon in Capricorn.

Dimon: Moon in Aries with Mars in Capricorn.

Pandit: Sun in Capricorn with Mars in Aries.

Mars/Aries and Capricorn

The Mars/Aries energy suggests that these men, like Charlie Sheen, are focused on WINNING. It’s about getting there, not the path.

Capricorn is about structure and control. These men not only want to win, they want control.

Okay, so I’ve described every banker you know. But let’s continue. Aries and Capricorn are both cardinal signs which means that they are square, creating a 90 degree angle. Squares cause friction.

Alexander the Great was a conqueror. He did not walk into the same office every day, eat lunch at noon and go home at 5 to watch TV or attend public relations events. While I can’t speak for Alexander himself, I’m guessing he would have found that a bit boring. Conquering and controlling are different. Conquering is active, control is stationary.

The trademark, for me, of the Aries/Capricorn square is FRUSTRATION. Like J. P. Morgan, these men are high strung, irascible, type AAA+ personalities. They want it yesterday, always.

Current transits

Funny that our current Heads of Banks, full of Aries and Capricorn energy, would be most affected by the current T-square of Pluto (in Capricorn), Uranus (in Aries) and Saturn (in Libra).

Not only are the banks in trouble, so are the bankers themselves. These men who thrive on success will not admit any kind of failure. Capricorn, especially, is involved in success and respect and failure for this sign equals death. You are a success or you don’t exist.

Aries can deal with failure more readily because it just means you have to conquer somewhere else, not here. Aries is satisfied with self, even if self’s achievements are not lasting. Aries appears to live in the present. Today’s successes are what matter, not yesterday’s failures.

The grand cross occurring is ultimately about relationships – me, you, us. Which is most important to me? Our bankers are dealing with these issues in their lives as well as in their banks.

The Ohio Astrology Top Banker Competition

For fun, I will pit our competitive banker friends against each other. Let’s pretend that there was a merger of Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup. Which of the three CEOs would win the Ohio Astrology competition to run it?

Moynihan has sun and Mars in Libra. While the Mars influence is there, Mars in Libra is in its detriment (an uncomfortable place to be). Mars is goal-oriented and Libra likes to weigh all the options, forever, before making a decision. Moon in Capricorn is tough, but squares the Libra energy. That’s a strong passive-aggressive individual who asks others to do the dirty work. After a meeting with Moynihan you might wonder what exactly it is you are supposed to do.

Dimon is a Pisces sun with moon in Aries and Mars in Capricorn. Pisces is a mutable water sign so Dimon works more from intuition than his two competitors. He can sense things before they happen and understands how the average person will feel about a change. Dimon is more emotionally tuned in to the surroundings. That may be nice in a husband, but in a CEO? Venus in Taurus suggests his interest in banking involves deeper values of what wealth represents.

Pandit has sun in Capricorn and moon in Gemini with Mars in Aries. This is a very shrewd and crafty thinker, constantly considering opportunities and possibilities. Only one planet in water (Neptune in Scorpio) means feelings rarely get in the way of business decisions. Capricorn is known to move slowly, but Gemini is extraordinarily quick on its feet and doesn’t form attachments.

The Decision

While political maneuvering is a sport in itself, I would cast my vote for Pandit. He’s the most practical and calculating. While Dimon can sniff change in the air, Dimon runs the risk of getting emotionally involved whereas Pandit can stay removed. Moynihan is simply too indecisive and involved with the pleasurable aspects of success, like being seen in a good light and having nice dinners every night.

My pick, Pandit, currently resides in position number 3, which I’m guessing he hates. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pandit one day is in position number 1.

The Hidden Transformation of the Federal Reserve

Thomas Jefferson is probably rolling in his grave right now. The man who desired limited federal government would be surprised, if he woke as though from a frozen time lock, to find the United States not only had a central bank, but that the President could wage war, without open threat, without approval by congress or any other body in this country.

It’s a bit of a shocker.

Federal Reserve Act

The Federal Reserve Act was passed on December 23, 1913. According to several Internet sites, the time was 6:02 pm, a deliberately late hour. Two days before Christmas, citizens were probably snuggled in their beds with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. Then-president Woodrow Wilson wanted to get it done with as little opposition as possible. Makes sense, since the idea of a central bank had been violently debated since our founding.

The horoscope for the Federal Reserve Act places the sun in Capricorn opposite Pluto in Cancer.  Since I have the “time of birth,” I know that the sun is in the 6th house with Pluto in the 12th house. Mars and Neptune are in the 1st house in Cancer opposite Jupiter in Capricorn in the 7th.

There is also an opposition of Saturn in Gemini with Mercury and Venus in Sagittarius.

The moon is in Scorpio in the 5th house.

Cancer – Capricorn Polarity

Cancer relates to home and inner emotional state. Capricorn relates to career or reputation and external status. Cancer, ruled by the moon, relates to emotions and Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, relates to control.

The purpose of the Federal Reserve, according to its website, is to conduct monetary policy, regulate banks, maintain the stability of the financial system and provide financial services to the US government.

If that doesn’t sound Capricorn, I don’t know what does.

The Cancer and Capricorn polarity is often viewed as the mother-father polarity with traditional roles attached. Mom is sweet and loving and makes you a nurturing pot of soup when you’re sick. Dad is out “in the world” making money in a corporate job. If you’ve been bad, he will punish you when you get home but generally is fair and espouses his wisdom of the world to you and makes sure you do everything right so you can get into college and get a good job.

In the 1960’s, this polarity was referred to as “the establishment.”

We know that Mom is not always loving, or that her love comes with “strings attached.” That’s a type of control. And Dad is actually trying to nurture you, but he knows what you need to survive in this cruel world so makes you get up from your fall and ignores your tears because you have to learn.

When those around us decide to do things “in our best interest,” they are often adopting the role of the parent. Parent equals control, in both good and bad connotations.

Pluto in Capricorn

Pluto is currently transiting Capricorn and is conjunct the Federal Reserves’ natal sun and opposing its natal Pluto. In other words, the Federal Reserve is through half of a Pluto cycle.

From this transit of the 6th house sun, I suspect the Federal Reserve is in bad health, the kind where it’s hanging by a string.

That the US economy is down, we all know. Pluto will be challenging both the “mothering” and “fathering” of the Federal Reserve. The children will be rebelling.

While Pluto is transiting Capricorn, Uranus is transiting Aries in the Fed’s 10th house, the house of reputation and public persona. Neptune entering Pisces is moving from the Fed’s 8th house to the 9th house. Saturn lingers for another year in Libra, in the Fed’s 4th house.

With all this going on in the chart, I’m quite surprised the Fed has kept a low profile. It appears to be falling apart at the seams. Mommy and Daddy are getting divorced, but they are not telling the children. Dad has been gradually moving his clothes to his new girlfriend’s apartment and mom has been burning dad’s love letters in the fireplace.

With Uranus transiting the midheaven, my guess is there will be a sudden and shocking announcement in the next few years of the Fed changing form. With Arian energy, there seems to be more desire for independence.

Neptune in the 9th suggests foreign involvement. The Federal Reserve is the third central bank of the US. The Second National Bank’s re-charter was vetoed in 1834 by Andrew Jackson. One of his complaints was ownership and subsequent domination by foreigners.

I don’t know enough about the banking system to understand how the current transits might play out, but there is definitely a power struggle going on in the institution of the Federal Reserve. I know, in politics “power struggle” is the sunrise of life in politics. However, I have to guess that power has shifted already in a way that’s not seen. Pluto is in the natal 12th house, the house of secrets.

The Future

Pluto will be transiting Capricorn for another 10-12 years. It’s going to be a long haul. My astrological guess is that after this transit, the economy will be more egalitarian as Pluto moves into Aquarius.

If nothing else, don’t hang out at the mailbox looking for credit card offers. I still remember the day when I got up to five offers a day. Those days are definitely over.

Republican Fight Club: Cain and Perry

The first rule of the Republican Fight Club is “Find Something to Fight About.” One of the great challenges in American politics is finding something that is truly different between you and that guy standing over at the other podium who looks just like you and feeds from the same lobbyists.

Herman Cain and Rick Perry don’t look alike. No wonder their fight is about just that – race.

Politically this fight seems better for Cain who is saying, “Look, I’m not the same as those others guys (and gals).”

Astrologically, Cain and Perry are quite different.

Cain has sun in Sagittarius and moon probably in Aries and Mars in Leo. Those are the three fire signs forming what’s called a grand trine. Cain fights with Greek fire. He fights fire with fire and will flame you with the lash of his tongue. And if you get him truly angry, there may even be some fisticuffs.

Cain is a strong and confident fighter. In fact, with so much fire, Cain is a fighter even if there is no battle to be fought. That’s a little problem Aries has and why it harangues those around it. Aries is a warrior and if you don’t fight with your Aries loved one, they will find you a big bore.

Fire likes to incite, so if you do not rise to the antagonisms of your fire friends, they will just try harder next time. Fire is no quitter.

Perry has a watery Pisces sun, earthy Virgo moon and a total of five other planets in air. Only Pluto is in fire (Leo). Perry does not fight fire with fire. Perry fights fire with water and air.

If Perry goes into his air qualities, he will be feeding fire as air feeds fire. Air is about socializing and communicating. I’ve got news for Perry – creating a dialogue with Cain will just feed his fire. From an astrological perspective, to win this fight with Cain, Perry will have to stop talking.

Now water, that’s something that puts out fire. If Perry strategically uses his water qualities to fight the Fiery Cain, he may win.

How to fight with water?

Pisces (and Virgo to some extent) have the defense of being the victim and martyr. Cain is saying (accurately, I believe) that his race is being treated unfairly. If Perry mirrors that back to Cain and usurps the role of victim, he could win.

The best water strategy of all is to cry.

If Perry does that, Cain would be advised to simply be content with having taken a stand publicly. I’m not suggesting Cain’s motives are purely political, but if Perry gets people weepy, this could be a good solution.

If this were a physical fight, like something held in Las Vegas and available on paid television, all of my money would be wagered on Cain. I would bet extra, even, that Perry would be a no-show.

Politics is really not so simple as physical fighting. Cain may be stronger, but Perry may be craftier.

Now, what time does the fight start? What channel?

Johnson and Roemer – Two More Spices in the Republican Stew

Watching the Republican presidential candidate run up, I’ve been wondering, “Where are the Capricorns?” You’d think the Grand Old Party would hatch lots of Capricorns, the zodiac’s most reverent advocates of Authority.

While perusing Republican senators and governors for the Ohio Astrology Republican Pick, which, by the way, is John Cornyn, I came across few Capricorns. With Pluto transiting Capricorn, most are probably picking up the pieces of a life transformed.

There is one declared candidate with sun in Capricorn – Gary Johnson. I’ll take a look at his chart and the additional chart I haven’t peeked at, Buddy Roemer.

Gary Johnson

Johnson has sun in Capricorn and moon in late Cancer or early Leo. That moon placement makes a difference in this chart. Moon in Cancer means Johnson has a T-square of sun (in Capricorn), moon and Uranus (in Cancer) and Saturn and Neptune (in Libra).

Moon in Cancer would mean 50% of Johnson’s planets are in cardinal signs. Cardinal is motivated, pushy and bossy. Too much cardinal can be recognized easily. You and the cardinal sign go to the department bake sale. You say you are going to buy a cookie. The cardinal sign elbows you and says, “No, buy the brownie.”

The cardinal sign will walk into your house and try to change something immediately. Even before the hug, you will hear, “You should put a painting on that bare wall.”

Get it?

If Johnson has a Leo moon, he might be more composed, picking his battles carefully and not so argumentative. Capricorn and Leo together are a forceful combination. The Leo would make him more regal and the Cancer more nervous.

Ohio Astrology Assessment: Definitely need more information on this one. If you have Johnson’s time of birth, send it to ohioastrology@yahoo.com. Johnson is probably too nervous and jittery for the job. Also, Pluto is transiting Capricorn so there are probably relationship issues that need to be resolved before walking in the glare of the spotlight.

Buddy Roemer

Roemer reminds me of Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain – he’s probably jumped in the ring for FUN. Now that I think more about it, some probably run for president not because they think they will succeed, but because the gumption of doing it opens up other possibilities. Maybe Gingrich, Cain and Roemer can create a new Vegas casino complex. Cain can run it, Roemer can promote it and Gingrich can play craps in it.

Roemer has sun and Neptune in Libra and moon in Sagittarius. Uranus, Mars and Saturn are in Gemini. Pluto and Jupiter are in Leo. Mercury and Venus are in Virgo. There are zero (0) planets in water signs.

This is a man who wears Rose Colored Glasses, has an extraordinarily detailed memory and the ability to rationalize away any piece of information at any time. This clever one should be a lawyer.

Libra and Gemini are both signs that indicate choice and duality. That Roemer switched parties shows that he thinks about both sides of an issue. The question is whether he ever lands or is one of those types in constant confusion. To me, chronic confusion is a condition just like those described in prescription drug commercials. If Roemer were to have one of today’s illnesses, it would probably be attention deficit disorder.

Ohio Astrology Assessment: Inconsistent personality. Super intelligent confusion does not bode well in American politics. Alternate career suggestions:  1) pundit, 2) Entertainment Mogul or 3) Proofreader.
