Ohio Astrology Picks Republican Presidential Candidate

Full disclosure, I’m not a Republican. I don’t want to define myself in our dualistic party system, but if forced against the wall by my literal countrymen, I can’t claim to be Republican.

Regardless, as a liberal I will offer the Republican Party some advice, free of my usual $50,000 consulting fee. They are clearly having trouble deciding on a presidential candidate. My observation is that the Republican Party is okay with a candidate who speaks the platform even if said person may not fully understand what he/she is saying.

That’s not my value, but I kept it in mind as I looked through some options. I scanned the potential candidates quickly because, as I’ve mentioned, I’m offering my services for free and a full astrological profile of all potential candidates takes precious time away from this blog.

The Ohio Astrology Pick for Republican Presidential Nominee is John Cornyn.

Cornyn is currently a senator from Texas. Texas is the land where Republicans plot and plan, so this is a perfect state from which to pick a candidate.

Yes, I know Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, is running. All Cornyn needs to do is promise the coveted new “Veterinarian General” position to Perry and move to the next space on the playing board.

Cornyn has sun in Aquarius and moon in Taurus. You got it, fixed signs. Republicans should not forget that the man they call the Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, had sun in Aquarius and moon in Taurus. Cornyn, like Reagan, can appear calm and collected in the most trying of circumstances.

Aquarius is a fixed air sign known for commitment to groups and ideals. Taurus the fixed earth sign is known for practicality, stubbornness and materialism. The signs combined are a stubborn commitment to ideals.

Venus in Capricorn means Cornyn choses his closest companions carefully. He is discreet.

Pluto in Leo opposes sun. My own “mark of a politician” involves Pluto in square to sun or moon. A Pluto opposition also indicates that Cornyn seeks the power of control which seems to drive those that run for political office. In other words, he’s controlling enough for the job. Mucho controlling enough.

Neptune conjunct Saturn in Libra means that close relationships are not so good. That’s okay because who has time for romance when they are running for president? Also, Aquarius likes groups, but not group hugs. Cornyn is an emotionally detached crusader who won’t let one crying hockey mom change his ultimate aim.

Mars in Scorpio, the fixed water sign, shows great determination. Do not cross this man; he will get you back. He may do it in an Aquarian, aloof manner, such as changing the law so that your mangy dog must now face euthanasia.

Next November Cornyn will be undergoing some aspects that suggest even if he isn’t president, whatever political changes occur will have great effect on him.

Saturn will be transiting Scorpio, conjunct that Mars. This is a time for revenge of some situation that may have happened up to two years ago. It may occur to Cornyn rather than from Cornyn. There may be a Hatfield & McCoy situation going on in his life with a lot of tits for tats.

Pluto will be transiting Capricorn, conjunct that Venus. This indicates some powerful new friends.

Uranus transiting Aries will be coming closer to Cornyn’s natal Jupiter in Aries suggesting more prominent position in life.

Cornyn, or someone like him, seems a better pick for candidate than what the Republicans are panning in the river of Republicans. It’s not gold, that’s for sure.

I’m off. I now need to find Cornyn a running mate.

Chris Christie – Fold This One

Another Republican Presidential candidate – niiice.

The Republican Party is very much like a merchandise cataloger. Market some product before the big season, test the waters, order more from China or nix it before you waste your inventory and storage dollars. They are clearly still selecting product.

The Republicans are now serving us a Virgo sun and Sagittarius moon in the form of Chris Christie, governor of New Jersey.

Pop Quiz – It’s time for the Ohio Astrology Aptitude Test (or OAAT, pronounced “whaaat?”). High scores on the OAAT allow one to enter the most prestigious astrology schools in the nation. Put your books away and put on your thinking cap. If you answer this one-question quiz correctly, you get the Virgo Perfect Score Award.

Question: Chris Christie has the same sun and moon placement as what famous person(s)?

  1. Charlie Sheen
  2. Amy Winehouse
  3. Both

If you answered “3,” you are correct!

Yes, there are lots of souls on the planet with Virgo sun and Sagittarian moon. My estimate is 42 million people have this combination in a 6-billion person world. If the US has a population of 311 million, there could be as many as 2 million folks in the US who share this combination with Chris Christie, 2 million peeps who vacillate between Virgo perfection and Sagittarian indulgence.

Being a little overweight is more an indication of a Sagittarius moon than Sheen and Winehouse’s near anorexia. I’m guessing, though, that Christie has gone up and down in weight with Virgo dueling Sagittarius.

Christie’s sun in Virgo is conjunct the powerful, controlling Pluto with Uranus hanging back a little, but also in Virgo. Jupiter is in Pisces opposite Uranus and, by sign, opposite both sun and Pluto.

This Jupiter/Sagittarius influence is strong.

Christie appears to be a controlling, perfectionist Virgo who makes the rules, to the detail, and demands everyone follow those rules, except, maybe, himself. He wants to follow the rules, truly, but that Sagittarius moon can’t ignore the delights of the world. Jupiter in Pisces adds to the sheer enjoyment of pleasure. In the case of Pisces, pleasure often comes in liquid form.

My image is of a man who penny pinches all year, denying himself both necessities and luxuries only to take all that saved money to Las Vegas to bet it all on his favorite pony and then regretting it.

Christie is by turns nervous and carefree, shrewd and innocent.

What about fixed signs, those determined, stubborn signs that Americans love in a president?

Christine has Saturn in Aquarius and Neptune in Scorpio. Saturn is where we lack, have boundaries or restrictions. In Aquarius, Christie is not one to share his ideals in a group situation. He may have close companions, but he’s not really one to merge with a group for an intellectual ideal. He might merge over some drinking (Jupiter in Pisces), but not because children are working in factories in some far off land.

The moon (in Sagittarius), Saturn (in Aquarius) and Mars (in Cancer) are a Yod, finger of God, aspect. The finger points to Mars in Cancer. This aspect is saying, “Family is where you need to look.”

Venus and Mercury are in Libra, another pleasure-loving sign. Mercury squares Mars. He doesn’t always tell his family the truth.

Here’s my sense of this man – he’s quirky and fun, unpredictable (lots of mutable sign energy) and has a close set of drinking (or in whatever way he parties) buddies. He loves his family, but is taken away by his love of non-family pleasures. After he’s indulged, he reacts nervously to the damage he may have caused, both to others and himself.

While Christie might be able to fight for his close friends and family, I just can’t see this one leading a nation based on ideals. It ain’t happening. He’s ultimately personal and can’t sacrifice for something he can’t see in front of him.

If Christie were to become a candidate, I have a feeling he would undermine a full nomination by doing something unpredictable and embarrassing.

Christie would probably be most happy sticking to behind-the-scenes politics where you get the same goodies as on-stage politics, but don’t sweat so much from the glare of the lights.

Callista Gingrich – A Warm Tough Cookie

Callista Gingrich, wife of Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, has just published a book of history for 4 – 8 year olds entitled “Sweet Land of Liberty” because, she says, “About two generations ago, our country stopped teaching American history.”

In an attempt to keep the kids’ attention while reading about history in “Sweet Land of Liberty,” a character called Ellis the Elephant was created.

Are elephants indigenous to the United States?

Native flora and fauna is also not being taught in our country.

To teach US history properly, it might have been better to choose an animal that is native to what is now the United States, like a buffalo. But that might bring up the issue of over-hunting that caused them to be nearly extinct, something we don’t want to bring up with readers of such a tender age. Images presented at such a young age leave a lasting impression.

If I had Mrs. Gingrich’s time of birth, it would look for placements in her chart that would suggest a love of history. I would look for emphasis on the education and communication polarity of the 3rd/9th houses.

Mrs. Gingrich’s sun is in Pisces conjunct Saturn in Pisces and near Mars in Pisces. Her moon is in Leo.

The Leo moon is easy to spot. Leo loves its hair. Intense hair is in the realm of the lion. So is the pride that comes with it. Leo, the fixed fire sign, is expressive, loving, and generous with an emotional need to be the center of attention.

Mrs. Gingrich’s moon probably loves the campaign trail. All that attention! All the pageantry!

While Leo likes attention for just being alive, Pisces seeks a different kind of relating. Pisces, the mutable water sign, wants deep emotional and spiritual connection. Saturn conjunct the sun in Pisces adds the message, “You’re not spiritual enough. You’re not empathetic enough. Do more for others.”

An abundance of Pisces in her chart suggests Mrs. Gingrich is willing to sacrifice her needs for others. She’d probably sacrifice until the buffaloes come home if it weren’t for that Leo moon shouting, “Hey, what about me?”

When the Leo moon shouts too loudly, Mrs. Gingrich might do something emotional to get her own needs met. That outburst is probably followed by guilt and then more sacrifice.

Speaking of history, there is a recent historical figure that has sun in Pisces and moon in Leo – Mikhail Gorbachev. He initiated freedoms in the Soviet Union that led to its ultimate collapse and his fall from power. You might say he sacrificed his own power by using his power to grant freedoms to others which ultimately led to his own fall. I don’t know his story to know if this is how he perceives it. One more history book for my reading list.

Mrs. Gingrich was born during the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo. That conjunction opposes her sun-Saturn conjunction in Pisces. This is the aspect that brought about the “Summer of Love.”

Saturn represents authority and structures. Pluto and Uranus opposing it manifested in the US as hippie, anti-establishment energy. The generation born under this aspect has an in-born distrust of authority.

My sense of Mrs. Gingrich is that she is a woman who will sacrifice much for her beliefs. However, if you take advantage of her willingness to sacrifice, she will fight back. She’ll bend, but she won’t break.

If you cross the line, she will most likely shun you rather than attack you.  If your transgressions are far out of line, however, I could see her kicking some dust in your face and maybe even sharing all of her accurate Piscean perceptions about you. She may even give you one of those “kill you with kindness” treatments.

Pisces is a sign of empathy and people naturally share their innermost feelings with this “astral social worker” of the zodiac. Moon in Leo allows her to add some additional energy to the hug she gives you when you’ve finished your coffee and pie and are ready to face your life again.

My image for Mrs. Gingrich is a Warm Tough Cookie.

Or maybe that should be a Warm Tough Apple Pie. That’s more American.

Vladimir Putin’s Presidential Run

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia, announced that he will run for President of Russia next March. I bet you $50 he’ll win. I just have that feeling.

Sometimes people win elections simply because the other candidate is incapacitated in some way, like eating bad fish and getting sick; you know, that sort of thing. Like Henry I of England. He had fish for lunch, which never agreed with him anyway, and didn’t make it to dinner.

From an astrological perspective, Putin is experiencing and will still be experiencing during the election, like the rest of us, the Saturn transit through Libra. For a man with sun, Saturn, Neptune and Mercury in Libra, this is important.

Saturn in Libra is the contracting and/or crystallizing of relationships. While this seems bad and may be causing many breakups, I sometimes forget that Saturn is exalted in the sign of Libra.

Every planet has a sign in which it is exalted, which means the planet’s purpose can be directed appropriately. On the other side, there is a sign in which a planet is in detriment, where it can’t manifest properly.

For example, Mars is the planet of focused, goal-oriented, aggressive action. It’s ruled by Aries, the god of war. It’s exalted in Capricorn, that ambitious goal-driven sign who steps on others to achieve its goals. Its detriment is Libra because Libra is the scales and goal-oriented action can’t fuss with both sides of an issue. You are my enemy and to kill you I can’t think about your family and misbegotten beliefs. I can’t go to the other side and understand you. If I do, I can’t kill you.

While Mars doesn’t like being in Libra, Saturn does. Saturn is the planet of contraction, crystallization and 3D reality. Because it’s about life on earth, it’s also considered a planet of hardships and lack.

This AstroTableTalk article examines intelligently the many faces of Saturn exalted in Libra.

Ultimately what I think the AstroTableTalk article is trying to say is that Saturn is exalted in Libra because it brings fairness and justice. It is the crystallization of both sides of any split into what is fair. That’s why in the list of professions for Libra, you will see judge.

Putin not only has Saturn in Libra, but the sun, Neptune and Mercury as well. The sun in Libra is a different manifestation than Saturn in Libra. The sun is about self and Libra is about other so sun in Libra seeks partnership for self-reflection and is considered a wishy-washy sign because of its inability to make decisions.

Saturn transiting Libra is breaking up relationships, I believe, because it should. Those relationships are not right, not fair, not equal, not balanced. Saturn is balancing the scales in relationships. Saturn is passing by a wobbly scale where the merchant has put a heavy, rotting apple on one side. Saturn is removing the apple.

Putin’s plethora of planets in Libra suggests he’s doing what he thinks is fair. He probably perceives things not going fairly and needs to intervene in a judge-like manner. He’s doing what’s right for you even if you don’t agree.

And where is Putin’s moon? In trying to determine whether his personality was more like a Taurus moon or Gemini moon, I discovered that Putin’s date of birth is also not clear. I originally looked at October 7, 1952 but see he could have been born October 1, 1952. The planets in Libra remain the same on both dates, but the moon shifts several signs from October 1 to October 7.

Because of Putin’s athletic skills, I will guess the moon is actually in Aries, which puts his birthday around October 2.

Regardless, Uranus is currently transiting Aries and will oppose his four planets in Libra. If the moon is in Aries, that gives extra shock and impulse to an already impulsive moon. Uranus opposing the sun can bring unexpected outbursts and attacks from others.

Uranus will come into full opposition around spring of 2013. That’s when the occurrence of accidents or open opposition is most likely to occur.

While Saturn is transiting Libra and Uranus Aries, Pluto is making its long journey through Capricorn. Astrologers recognize this as a T-square. It’s friction with Saturn and Uranus duking it out and Pluto playing the unwelcome mediator.

With his Libra planets in the ring, Putin will be personally involved in this outer planet boxing match. Now that I examine it more closely, I think I might lose my $50. Pluto in Capricorn represents the transformation and possible destruction of societal structures.

Not only will Putin possibly lose, but it’s also possible the rules will change before he gets a chance to re-become the President of Russia.

Just like empires, people rise and fall. The astrological aspects to Putin’s chart suggest there will be open enemies to his plans. He may win, but it won’t be easy. Not that Russian and Soviet Union politics were ever easy.

Ann Romney, Queen Bee not Aunt Bee

This morning I read about the home-spun authenticity of Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Of course, checking out the horoscope behind the authenticity was a must.

First let me say I LOVE THIS. Watching politicians’ attempts to project images takes me back to watching plays in elementary school. You’re taught by elementary school not to laugh (openly) at others but still don’t have the maturity to restrain your giggles watching your friends trying to portray characters in a play. Their acting is terrible, it’s funny and you laugh.

According to the AP story, Ann and Mitt Romney were flipping pancakes recently at a political fundraiser. Mrs. Romney is quoted in the article as saying that she served pancakes nearly every morning before her children went to school.

I don’t question the authenticity of Mrs. Romney’s love of making pancakes nearly every morning for her sons. I’m sure she did. And I’m sure she enjoyed it. I believe her.

What I’m giggling about, with her chart in hand, is the IMAGE being projected of a women who loves to stay home and serve her family.

Mrs. Romney has sun, Venus and Mars in fiery Aries, moon in fiery Sagittarius and Pluto and Saturn in fiery Leo. Yes, this is a grand fire trine.

Mrs. Romney almost has a grand air trine as well with Uranus in Gemini, Neptune in Libra and Jupiter in Aquarius. Jupiter is a little off the mark for making this a full-fledged grand trine.

Mercury in Taurus provides the one earth sign in the chart. She communicates in an earthy, grounded way, but she is far from grounded.

You’ve probably realized by now that there is an element lacking – water. Water is about emotions, empathy and spiritual connectedness. The home-iest of the signs is Cancer, which rules motherhood, family and belonging.

Back to the pancakes. My first question to a woman with a chart full of fire and air who tries to project an image of traditional Colonial femininity is – after cooking the pancakes did you do the dishes? Or did you have, say, domestic help?

Fire signs are about confidence, enthusiasm, energy and passion. Mrs. Romney has energy in abundance. She can certainly do dishes, but fire signs would rather do something else, like go out and play with friends. Add an air trine to the mix and this is someone who definitely does not like to stay home. This is the chart of a social extrovert.

Mr. Romney, who from the Ohio Astrology assessment is not very confident, appears to have married what he lacks. Just like the poor, handsome lad of a French novel, Mitt Romney appears to have married into “confidence” the way a novel’s protagonist would have married into wealth.

Fire is also very expressive. I’m guessing that if the men in her family didn’t comply with her wishes, Mrs. Romney, an impulsive Aries, would have thrown a flapjack at their heads.

Mrs. Romney, with her abundance of fire, would have made a terrific athlete. Sports are a fine outlet for aggressive and warlike energy.

Moon in Sagittarius makes Mrs. Romney a wandering risk taker. If she hasn’t been to Las Vegas, she needs to put it on her bucket list because the sparkling glamour of the opulent hotels will appeal to her fiery nature and the gambling will appeal to Sagittarius, that gambler of the zodiac.

With little earth in her chart, Mrs. Romney is not much of a penny pincher. This is someone who likes nice things both for herself and for her family. “Waste not want not,” are the words of her husband, which she probably ignores.

Mrs. Romney is strong. She will fight, especially for people she loves and causes she cares about. Will she help you clean the vomit off the kitchen chair? Maybe not, but she will make sure it gets cleaned. She’s in charge.

I feel better about Mitt Romney as a candidate knowing that he does have the confidence and strength of Hercules, just not in his own personality. He complemented himself by marrying a woman with an abundance of confidence and strength.

And what does Mrs. Romney receive in return from her husband? She receives emotional sensitivity from his abundance of water (sun and several planets in Pisces, moon and Jupiter in Scorpio). He is the emotional antenna, she is the action.

The Romneys for President! Together, they have it all.

Mark Zuckerberg, Our Friendly Overlord

A friend’s entrepreneurial uncle always told him that to be successful in business one must sell to “women’s vanities or men’s addictions.” Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, seems to have figured out that men and women can be addicted to the same item.

Yesterday Facebook changed how it works and the change made news. Some of my friends complained. No one has left. We love our Facebook but hate our Facebook Overlord. We are addicted.

In “The Social Network” Zuckerberg is portrayed as brilliant, determined and vengeful. In the movie he agrees to work with twin brothers to create a proto-type Facebook. Instead he does it all on his own and banks the results. He then undermines his best friend leaving him out of millions in profit. Both the twins and best friend sue and win.

In reaction to the movie portrayal, Zuckerberg was all over the TV shows especially the revered “60 Minutes” smiling and acting just like any old Facebook friend.

Zuckerberg has a sun in Taurus, the fixed earth sign. That speaks to his determination and, until recently, lack of facial or emotional expression. Taurus is steady and calm, rarely reacting emotionally. But when it does explode, it’s known to have one of the worst tempers in the zodiac.

I also consider Taurus to be materialistic in a good sense. There is true enjoyment of physical pleasures and 3D reality. Most people, really, are not deriving the pleasure they truly want from material goods. Taurus accumulation comes from enjoyment, not from a desire to impress (see Capricorn for that).

Taurus is not the sign of revenge. It’s opposite, Scorpio, is.

Taurus and Scorpio are the possession and sensuality polarity. Taurus enjoys physical pleasure without guilt. Scorpio, on the opposite pole, wants emotional bonding of the sort that can feel like invasion if you are not having the same feeling. Scorpio, with its compulsive need to see under the surface to the true motivation of others, can feel guilt, and lots of it (you see a lot of Scorpio in religious leaders). The Taurus – Scorpio polarity sometimes manifests into what I call “good girl – bad girl.”

I say “girl” because women appear to struggle with sexual guilt more than men. It makes sense because there is no male equivalent of “slut.” Women seem to struggle with the Taurus – Scorpio polarity more than do men.

Zuckerberg has Pluto, Saturn, moon and Mars all in the sign of Scorpio. Saturn conjunct moon also suggests an emotional reserve of the kind that wipes expression from one’s face. However, Scorpio does feel, and very deeply. It is extremely sensitive which is what I believe makes it vengeful.

Scorpio, even to a serious Capricorn like me, seems to take life too seriously. The seriousness of Scorpio, I believe, comes directly from its sensitivity. Scorpio is a fixed water sign and its two water-sign companions are Cancer and Pisces. Cancer and Pisces are more open to being vulnerable. Scorpio is not. I believe that is what leads to vengeance.

Humans are rarely consistent and for a Scorpio human inconsistency feels like betrayal. Leo is next in line to dramatize human behavior as betrayal but Leo will kiss and make up because that is so much fun and Leo is about fun.

Scorpio takes it all seriously and perceived betrayal can’t be forgotten. That you are a whimsical creature of the universe isn’t answer enough either.

Zuckerberg’s chart is filled with serious signs: two in Taurus (sun and Venus), four in Scorpio (Pluto, Saturn, moon and Mars) and two in Capricorn (Neptune and Jupiter).

The only relief from seriousness is Mercury in Aries and Uranus in Sagittarius. Talking provides some fun as does traveling. Zuckerberg probably travels on a whim without prior planning. Uranus in Sagittarius suggests accidents while traveling.

Zuckerberg has no planets in air. Air is related to social interaction and sharing of ideas. Air also relates to detachment. Interesting a man with no air would create a social site.

In summary, Zuckerberg’s chart could manifest as the character portrayed in “The Social Network.” The shoe fits, although I don’t know if Zuckerberg actually wears it.

Ultimately, a chart full of Scorpio and Capricorn (not Taurus so much) needs to learn how to trust. I think that’s why Scorpio is so drawn to God because who else can really be trusted?

Zuckerberg has created a space where 800 million people share varying levels of personal information on the Internet. We are trusting and vulnerable. We open ourselves to hackers across the globe.

I wonder if Zuckerberg has shared equally on Facebook or if he’s acting like a Scorpio and learning all he can about us while he shares little about himself. We trust him, does he trust us?

What’s Next for Michael Stipe?

I heard the bad news today – REM is breaking up. While I haven’t bought their music in a while, hearing about my favorite college band breaking up is like hearing about Al and Tipper Gore calling it quits.

What is there left to believe in?

But it doesn’t surprise me that Michael Stipe, lead singer, is moving on. He has sun in Capricorn. Pluto is now transiting Capricorn which means this sign is next in line for transformation of the self (Pluto just finished razing the lives of Sagittarians).

Stipe has Mercury, Saturn and the sun in Capricorn. Pluto has already done the slam dance on his Mercury which means communication style will transform. As one who lives by the sound of his voice and the words of his choice, this is a big change.

After years of voicing his poetry to millions, who will listen to him now?

Pluto will then transit Saturn and the sun. I suspect that Stipe will move into serious, Capricorn pursuits. This serious Capricorn is already known for his social consciousness. My guess is that he will run for political office.

Saturn conjunct the sun makes one self-conscious, serious and reserved. In Capricorn, it lends to uber-seriousness. Stipe could handle the world of politics because, well, Capricorn is a hard-nosed sign that can be controlling and even mean.

Stipe’s moon is in late Pisces or early Aries. Those are very different energies. Stipe comes across more as an emotional, shy Pisces than an aggressive, frustrated Aries. Either sign, however, is being affected by Uranus’ current transit through end of Pisces, beginning of Aries.

Uranus on the moon represents sudden outbursts of the energy of the moon. Maybe Stipe’s moon is in Aries and the breakup was his sudden idea to set himself free.

Stipe has Mars and Jupiter is the fiery, wandering Sagittarius. Maybe if Stipe goes into politics he will be a foreign ambassador. Maybe Stipe can be the glue that holds the north and south together as one happy Union.

Saturn’s current transit through Libra is squaring Stipe’s natal Saturn in Capricorn. This is problems with the partner. Saturn on the sun, especially in Capricorn, can create a somewhat pessimistic view of life, one where the “rules” are paramount. Stipe doesn’t appear to follow the rules, per se, but the rules probably bother him more than he admits. That partner may have triggered this tension in some way.

Stipe’s current transits suggest he will get more serious about his life. Capricorn says you need to achieve something in this world. Stipe certainly has but maybe not what he meant to achieve.

Stipe for President. That would be cool.

Texas-trology

I’m still deciding which chart is the “real” Texas – the chart of the Republic or the chart of the State. Maybe, amigos, you can help decide.

The Republic of Texas

The Republic of Texas, liberated from Mexico, was born on March 2, 1836. The Republic is a sun in Pisces and moon in Virgo. Rick Perry, current governor and contender for the Republican presidential nomination, is also sun in Pisces and moon in Virgo. He’s a man of the Republic.

The Republic’s moon could be in late Leo, which makes sense from the sense of pride felt for the Republic, but that means the declaration would have had to occur in the wee hours of the morning well before sunrise. I’ll go with Virgo.

The Republic is ruled by a mutable water sign. Water, the Rio Grande as we call it and the Rio Bravo as the Mexicans call it, creates the boundary between the Republic and its former overlord, Mexico.

Pisces is emotional, spiritual and mysterious. Pisces is the empathizer of the zodiac so Texas may have once been a place of emotional refuge. It would have been a place to hide.

Moon in Virgo means the population is work-oriented, servile and interested in health. Uranus in Pisces opposes the moon in Virgo which would indicate periodic, sudden outbreaks of emotion or illness (or both).

Both Pisces and Virgo are nervous signs – Pisces because it picks up on the energy of the surroundings and Virgo because of excessive worry. Is the Republic one big, giant worry wart? It should have been because as a Republic, it was surrounded by two huge foes.

The Republic has some fire with Pluto conjunct Venus in Aries. In a nation’s horoscope, Venus is women or women’s issues. Pluto on Venus means that the women of this state are very, very powerful. Pluto suggests they must be powerful to survive. These are the “Annie Get Your Gun” types. Annie probably had to pull a lot of Texas men’s hands off of her thigh.

Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Uranus in Pisces create a grand water trine. The Republic provided emotional comfort of family, physical love and spiritual harmony.

Neptune, Mercury and Mars in Aquarius suggest unusual communications and inventions. Aquarius rules electricity so possibly inventions involving electricity. I don’t see Texas much mentioned in the annals of electrical inventions, but maybe the mysterious Pisces Republic is hiding some of the contributions.

The State of Texas

The State of Texas, annexed by the United States on December 29, 1845, is a very different Texas than the Republic. The State of Texas has sun, moon and Mercury in the authoritarian Capricorn. This Texas is master of the house, always.

The State has Saturn, Neptune and Venus conjunct in Aquarius and Mars, Uranus and Pluto in Aries. As with the Republic, there is a bit of Aquarius and Aries energy – invention and force.

Uranus is transiting Aries now and for The State represents its second Uranus return. Individuals (except in the Bible) do not have second Uranus returns as it takes Uranus 84 years to complete its cycle around the sun. The State is currently experiencing its second birth as an awakened entity.

Uranus squares The State’s sun in Capricorn. The challenge is individual versus state. Aries is about individuality and Capricorn is about structure and society.

It’s going to get worse before it gets better for Texas. After Uranus moves out of square with the sun, it will begin to square the moon. The control versus individuality debate will get more out of control.

Aries is a fire sign so the state should also watch for unexpected fires and explosions right now.

As this Uranus transit is occurring, Texas has also just experienced its Neptune return, that return which occurs every 164 years. The State is going through some big spiritual awakenings. The next 164 years will function as the next level of that spiritual growth. In Aquarius, that relates to equality in society. Capricorn is about hierarchical structure and Aquarius is about fraternity.

The State is also going through its 14th Jupiter return, an expansive time of material growth as Jupiter is placed in the sign of Taurus. This would be a good time for a land-grab. If there is any land in dispute, it is a good time to call that land “Texas.” Texas as a Republic and a State was about land grabbing, really. The time is ripe for extended borders.

The Two Faces of Texas

The Republic of Texas’ chart represents the raw energy of Texas and the State of Texas’ chart its role in the Union. From my northern perspective, Texas seems to be ruled by Capricorn because of the controlling role it plays in the Union because of its oil wealth.

I have also noticed the great love of Texas that many folk have that you just don’t see with other states, such as Ohio. That must be the energy of the Republic, something I can’t feel but can see in others.

Saturn in Gemini Presented by Jim Parsons

Saturn is the planet associated with limitations, restrictions, self-denial and discipline. Fun stuff.

While few seek the delights of self-denial, if Saturn isn’t prominent in your big life decisions such as marriage, career or buying a house, there is no grounding or crystallization of those events.

In marriage, for example, most in the US want to marry for love, passion and partnership (Mars and Venus). But if there is no serious commitment to the idea of marriage (Saturn), the marriage may not last. The arranged marriages of the world rarely end in divorce because they are ruled by Saturn. The marriage follows a rule and is an institution, not an emotion. Emotions are like clouds that form and disperse; institutions are like fortresses – they may be abandoned and decay over time, but still stick around in some form unless deliberately razed.

Saturn in the chart represents an area of limitation or restriction. Because of that, I find there are two reactions to our own Saturn placement – complete denial or complete immersion. It’s also interesting to see how running from our Saturn can inadvertently throw us directly into its lessons.

Jim Parsons, the actor who plays Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory,” has incredible skills of diction. His character recites complicated lines involving physics theory at breakneck speed. When watching on DVD, I often have to rewind several times to figure out what the heck he is saying.

How can this man remember and recite those complicated lines?

In a Movie Line interview, Parsons says that remembering the lines is “maddening” and he creates notecards to recite all week. He writes the cards in long hand (what’s that?) and also writes the entire dialogue out on his computer.

That’s discipline.

Where is Parsons’ Saturn?

In Gemini, the sign of communication.

By portraying Sheldon Cooper’s intensely brilliant mind, Parsons the actor is nose-diving straight into a Saturn in Gemini that feels insecurity about its ability to communicate and even questions its own intelligence. To compensate, Saturn in Gemini can form a much disciplined mind that seeks out facts becoming a “know it all.”

If I just know everything, I will be ok, says Saturn in Gemini.

The rest of Parson’s chart suggests he is an aggressive and fun-loving extrovert. He has sun in Aries and moon in Sagittarius. Neptune conjuncts the moon.

Neptune on the moon makes one extremely attractive and charismatic. I don’t know Parsons’ sexuality, but regardless, women love him. That Saturn in Gemini opposes the Neptune/moon conjunction. That he is charismatic and others (especially women) love him creates issues with other men.

The sun in Aries is opposed by Pluto in Libra. This is the me-you polarity. Combined with the aforementioned moon stuff, Parsons struggles with freedom versus partnership. He truly loves that partner, but sort of loves everyone else as well. He loves them and they love him. Who can resist that? It’s like jumping onto a hotel bed overstuffed with fluffy pillows (unsponsored promotion of Westin – love them beds).

Since this post is about Saturn, I’ll end with Saturn, which likes endings because endings are boundaries and create structure.

I will say that Parsons has consciously or unconsciously immersed himself in Saturn in Gemini. He may have imposed that intense professional verbal discipline on himself because the rest of his chart (except for Mars in Capricorn) would rather go have fun. He’s so charismatic, his phone is probably ringing off the hook with delightful companions offering exciting adventures if he would just put down that script and come over.

The script is his discipline and his anchor.

Republican Presidential Candidate Minor League Players – Huntsman, Cain and Santorum

I realized I better feast fully on this buffet of Republican candidates before the big money, I mean the voter, decides who will be the Republican nominee for President.

Jon Huntsman

I think Jon Huntsman, current ambassador to China, should be nominated solely on his name. “Huntsman” has the word “hunt” in it which will subconsciously appeal to the National Rifle Association (NRA). Huntsman should “gather” pro-gun lobbyists around him to project his ideas into the mainstream, like a bullet into the chest of a fleeing deer.

Huntsman has sun in Aries and moon either in late Pisces or early Aries. There is a lot of Pisces and Aries energy in this Republican campaign. Uranus is currently in Aries and Neptune is currently in Pisces. Pluto, the other outer “planet,” is in Capricorn but we’re not seeing much Capricorn energy in this election.

Uranus in Aries says it’s all about personal freedom. Neptune in Pisces says it’s all about sacrifice to the common good. We’ll see which wins.

Huntsman’s Saturn is in Capricorn, the authority of the zodiac that rules the skin, bones and knees. Capricorn, then, is about structure and surface.

Ohio Astrology Assessment:  Too much Aries and Pisces energy means too neurotic. Saturn in Capricorn is skin too thin for this rough-and-tumble game. If he were President, I think we’d see Nixon-like outbursts of paranoia.

Herman Cain

Herman Cain, Federal Reserve board member and pizza magnate, believes that a businessman should be President of the United States. Our business-revering culture may agree.

Cain has sun in Sagittarius and moon in Aries. Cain also has Mercury and Venus in Sagittarius and Mars in Leo. You know what that means – a grand fire trine. Fire equals enthusiasm and passion, energy and confidence.

Cain will be having his Mars return (in Leo) in the next month and will probably feel like a million bucks. I bet he will treat himself to new clothes and a new haircut. Leo loves hair and Cain has little left so maybe he will play with facial hair. I dig sideburns on a man and I think the handsome Cain could pull it off.

Cain has no planets in earth in his chart. You know what that means, astrology-philes. Cain is not grounded or realistic. Playing in the garden is my usual suggestion for those lacking earth.

Ohio Astrology Assessment:  While a chart filled with fire has tremendous energy, Sagittarius and Aries are not the most responsible of signs. Sagittarius loves to gamble and has self-confidence that borders on inflated ego. Cain’s chart suggests he and Newt Gingrich would hit it off. They can plan a trip to Vegas, bet on some ponies, or find some “sweet side action” in just about any other sporting event.

Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum, previously Senator from Pennsylvania, has the stuff of US Presidents – sun in fixed earth sign Taurus and moon in fixed air sign Aquarius. This is one stubborn dude with eccentric and unwavering ideas. Americans love that.

In addition to the fixed signs of Taurus and Aquarius, Santorum also has planets in the fixed sign of Leo (Uranus and Pluto) and Scorpio (Neptune). Santorum is so fixed that really he needs to lighten up. He’s like a lead pellet at a cotton ball party.

Saturn in Sagittarius means that Santorum isn’t much for exploring the new or different. Those with strong emphasis in Sagittarius are drawn to foreign or outcast experiences. Those people are willing to try anything “at least once.”

Santorum, on the other hand, probably eats the same lunch every day, say a turkey sandwich. And if you take him out somewhere new, he will eat a turkey sandwich.

Ohio Astrology Assessment:  The American voter loves fixed signs that say the same thing consistently and draw ideas using simple, easy-to-understand language. Santorum can do this. It won’t bore him to have the same conversation over and over and repeat his ideas over and over. Santorum has the astrological stuff it takes to be President of the United States. Two thumbs up.
