Facebook and LinkedIn – 4th house and 10th house

While everyone uses Facebook and LinkedIn differently, for this blog I’m looking at Facebook as being more personal & family relationships and LinkedIn as being more professional relationships.

In astrology, the 4th house relates to our emotional environment, our home (as opposed to our house) and the 10th house relates to our career and reputation. The 4th house is our “home self” or “private self” and the 10th house is our “career self” or “public self.”  Facebook is 4th house and LinkedIn is 10th house.

While some react negatively to the rise of social media, social media like all tools and technology relates to and retains the fundamental principles of our relationships as a species. It’s just another way to do the same thing. We have a private self and we have a public self. Social media has not changed that, it has adapted to that.

To know the sign that is in your 4th and 10th houses, you need to know your time of birth and to cast a horoscope. I do not have the time of birth for most of the charts I look at in this blog so focus on planets and the relationships between the planets.

I will focus on two charts where I do have the time of birth – Barack Obama, who has recently published his birth certificate online and my Aquarian friend who asked to be referred to as “Bob.” (As an aside, since Obama had to publish his birth certificates I think all politicians should do the same. Astrologers and Republicans will be happier.)

Let’s start with Obama, since you know him better than Bob. Obama’s 4th house cusp (where the house begins) is in 28 degrees of Taurus and ends in 23 degrees of Gemini. Obama’s Gemini moon is in the 4th house. Obama’s 10th house is 28 degrees of Scorpio to 23 degrees of Sagittarius. There are no planets in that house.

Moon in Gemini in the 4th is someone who is VERY chatty, especially while at home among family and closest companions. With Gemini in that house, Obama has a lot of friends and opens his home to those friends, much like you see on a TV sitcom where people walk in and out all the time.

If that is Obama’s pattern in the 4th house of his chart, this would be his pattern on Facebook. Obama would most likely use Facebook to link into everyone he knows, everyone he meets. His 10th house in Scorpio is much more private. Ironically, Obama would be more private on LinkedIn. His public life would be kept more private than his private life.

My friend Bob, on the other hand, has the sign Cancer on his 4th house cusp. His sun in Aquarius is in the 10th house (with Capricorn on the cusp). Cancer is a shy sign that hides in its shell when threatened. It is the mothering sign, the sign of home life itself and the smell of pot roast emanating from the kitchen.

As you would guess from this sign, Bob has been reluctant to join Facebook. He created a profile just the other day and finally connected to me, a friend of 20 years (we’ve been writing by letter than entire time). I made fun of Bob for not posting a picture and yesterday he finally posted one – a sea creature. He couldn’t have expressed his 4th house Cancer better than that.

Bob is slightly more active on LinkedIn, but has been active there for a while and joined it first. Since his sun is in the 10th house, I’m guessing that if he does pump up his activity in social media, LinkedIn will grow more quickly and will always be the first connection he makes with people in the world of social media. Unlike Obama, Bob will probably preserve Facebook for close friends and LinkedIn for most of his social contacts.

Astrology is a description of human patterns and cycles. The external manifestations (such as Facebook and LinkedIn) are representations of those patterns and cycles. To me, Facebook and LinkedIn have changed nothing; they are merely the technological manifestation of our 4th and 10th house energies. Before Facebook and LinkedIn, we had to decide who we liked and didn’t like and how to manage those relationships. Technology has just laid that pattern in front of us.

If you want to be a talk-show host, what sign should you be?

In exploring the signs of talk-show hosts, I realized that daytime shows are women dominated and nighttime shows male dominated. Who decided that?

I have the daytime vixens as Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O’Donnell (not as active). The sun signs are:

Oprah:  Aquarius (fixed air)

Ellen: Aquarius (fixed air)

Rosie: Aries (cardinal fire)

The nighttime soldiers of comedy are Johnny Carson (deceased but king), David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. The sun signs are:

Johnny: Libra (cardinal air)

David: Aries (cardinal fire)

Conan: Aries (cardinal fire)

Jay: Taurus (fixed earth)

The simple answer is that to be a talk-show host you should be an air or fire sign. If air, preferably Aquarius and if fire preferably Aries.

That was easy.

So now let’s talk about air and fire, specifically Aquarius and Aries. Jay Leno is clearly the anomaly so I’ll look at his chart separately to figure out how this fixed earth sign walked on the air & fire stage.

Our top two female talk-show hosts are Aquarians. Quoting from Sakoian & Acker’s “The Astrology Handbook,” Aquarius is the sign of fraternity and brotherhood that “spills out to mankind the life-force and spiritual energy.”  Because of this tendency, Aquarians have an “honest enjoyment in meeting new people and exchanging ideas.”

Sounds like Oprah and Ellen for sure.

Remember that Aquarius the water bearer is an air sign, not a water sign. While Aquarius loves people, it loves them impersonally. My guess is that if you go and hug Oprah or Ellen you might find them a little nervous and uncomfortable. And they probably won’t come and help you clean the house, but they will fight for your cause and do wonderful, impersonal things for you (like buy you a car).

Onto Aries. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and likes to be first. Since I talked about it second, and the Aries in question are males, I’m sure there is some competitive angst about this.

According to Sakoian & Acker, Arians are “full of creative energy” and have a “tremendous psychological drive to prove themselves.” Aries are competitive, impulsive, head strong and sort of full of themselves.

Funny enough, Libra, Carson’s sun sign, is in the sign opposite Aries, Libra. If Aries is about self, Libra is about other and relating to others (much like Aquarius). Our king of the nighttime talk show was more like Oprah and Ellen.

Letterman seems have taken the nighttime talk show from relating to others to focus on the self.  O’Brien is also an Aries, but does have moon in Aquarius, so maybe O’Brien is more of a balance of self/others.

So how did Leno end up in this crowd? I have no idea. He’s a Taurus sun with moon in Virgo which is a very earthy chart. He doesn’t have much air or fire which suggests he’s much more introverted than his talk show companions.  After the show he probably holes up somewhere. While Aries, Aquarius and Libra are wildly social and have tons of friends, Leno probably has only a few close companions.

In summary, talk shows are about TALK. Fire and air are extroverted and like to talk – Aries about itself and Aquarius and Libra about others. Air is about communication and social interaction.

Notice that there are no mutable signs amongst the hosts (Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces or Virgo). Mutable signs are changeable and probably don’t like the commitment needed to be the same person every day in front of millions of viewers.

So, if you want to be a talk show host, you probably should be an Aquarius, Aries or Libra. If not, you might want to find another profession.

Katie Couric

You have probably already guessed that I’m writing about Katie Couric because she’s  . . . yes, a Capricorn. And you are full aware that Pluto is transiting . . . Capricorn. And that the area of your chart ruled by Capricorn and Capricorn suns in general are going through transformations.

Katie Couric’s big “transformation” is leaving her CBS news anchor position. Maybe this isn’t a transformation for me or you, but surely it’s a transformation for a famous, ambitious Capricorn news authority.

Couric’s sun and Mercury are in Capricorn and she has earned Capricorn “respect” in her roles on the Today show and CBS news anchor. Mars in Aries adds to an aggressive, self-aggrandizing nature. And one easily frustrated by perceived slowness. I’m guessing Couric waits no longer than five minutes after she decides she wants something before she feels that thing called “frustration.”

What could be causing the frustration that led her to leave the evening news?

Uranus has just finished transiting her moon in Pisces. The frustration definitely springs from an issue with a woman Couric perceives as emotional and manipulative. Natal Jupiter in Libra is actually by degree opposite the moon in Pisces so there may have been a strong sense of partnership with this person that fell apart during the Uranus transit. Couric may be leaving her post to gain a sense of emotional freedom from this person.

Moon in Pisces gives a sensitive antenna to her ambitious sun in Capricorn, Mars in Aries combination. But empathic Pisces internally fights with cold, calculating Capricorn and fiery, aggressive Aries. Couric has a grand fire trine (a planet in each of the fire signs) so she probably beats herself up at times, fire against water. Remember that water puts out fire, so I’m guessing that Couric experiences extreme ups and downs with fiery highs and then watery lows.

One of the planets Couric has in a fire sign is Saturn, which is in Sagittarius. With sun in Capricorn and moon in Pisces Couric is definitely a serious person, an old soul. Saturn in Sagittarius suggests she does not always feel the optimism and hope that she projects. Couric is a deep person with a somewhat melancholy nature.

There are a host planets in Aries right now (Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus) opposite Saturn in Libra. Difficulties in relationships are occurring for all of us under these transits. For Couric, this means even more frustration in her goals as the partnership she is fleeing either will follow her or be replaced by a different, yet similar situation. It’s not over yet, there is still frustration to come.

In mid-May, some of the pressure will be relieved. With all this frustration boiling, I wouldn’t be surprised if later (when Pluto gets closer to Mercury) we hear from Couric exactly what went wrong. As Pluto moves toward Mercury, the planet of communication, this media woman may change her communication or news style in yet another way. Capricorn is serious and it’s serious stuff that Couric wants to communicate.

As Neptune enters Pisces and moves toward the 26 degrees of Pisces where Couric’s moon is placed, Couric will also undergo emotional changes. Capricorn is good at keeping emotions under control, but Neptune allows those emotions to enter the atmosphere, oozing like mist off of ice. Maybe the communication changes Couric will undergo involve more emotional expression or manifestation of something spiritual and/or religious. This makes me think of Shirley MacLaine who at age 40 told the world about what might be called “new age” beliefs. Maybe Couric will express more of her emotional self to the public.

Couric definitely projects (to me) her Capricorn sun and Mars in Aries. Neptune in Pisces may allow us to see the inner workings of Couric, her more vulnerable self.

Daily Horoscope – How Is It Done?

You’ve probably been wondering your whole life how the daily astrology column is written. Everyone wonders and no one seems to answer. Let me try.

The closer to the sun a planet is, the more quickly it revolves around the sun. The more quickly it revolves, the more quickly it changes signs. The moon, which revolves around the earth, changes sign every other day. Pluto, on the other hand, changes signs every 20 years or so. So if I write a daily astrological column, I’m going to look at the bodies that change every day or fairly often. Those bodies would be: moon, sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars.

The rest of the planets move more slowly and will be in a sign for years. They, too, show up in the daily horoscope, but represent the same thing for a long time. But at the same time, those faster moving planets and moon move in and out of those signs and bump up against those slower moving planets. When that happens, you add that tidbit to the daily forecast.

Are you with me?

Now how does an astrologer make a prediction for one sign of the zodiac when millions upon millions of people share that sign?

The astrologer must pretend that all Aries have 0 degrees of Aries as the rising sign. As the planets move through the houses, the astrologer makes predictions based on those areas of life.

So I agree with the millions upon millions of people that say the daily column is bunk. It can be very accurate for some people because their houses line up with this assumption the astrologer makes about that sign of the zodiac. But for most people, it rarely resonates.

I know you’re confused. So let’s look at a daily horoscope for a chart where I have the time of birth – Barack Obama. I have a 7:24 pm time of birth.

Tomorrow, April 25 the sun is in four degrees of Taurus and the moon is in three degrees of Aquarius. I take those signs and degrees and put them in Obama’s chart.

The sun in four degrees of Taurus has just entered Obama’s 3rd house of communication and square his natal Mercury in Leo in the 6th house of work. The moon at three degrees of Aquarius is on Obama’s 12th house Jupiter, the house of hidden matters. By Tuesday, the moon will move into the 1st house of open self.

The many planets transiting Aries right now are in Obama’s 2nd, the house of money and resources. Pluto transiting Capricorn is in the 11th house of friendships and Saturn in Libra is in the 8th house of other people’s money. Neptune in Pisces is transiting his 1st house of open self.

Okay, here goes. This is the daily horoscope for Barack Obama for Monday, April 25.

“On Monday, you have information about group money or resources that you are deliberately not revealing. On Tuesday, a humanitarian or social group will bring that matter into the open. There are great changes in money earned and asset values and money owed to others is now due. The money issues are affecting your social life and friendships. You will be fighting with a man from your past about money, a man that you do not associate with publicly.”

If Obama weren’t president, I would simply assume that he had some intense money problems right now. Since he is president, I’m feeling that the chart represents American money issues he is not communicating truthfully. I’ve suspected before with his chart that he’s giving money to people who will now be cast off from financial support.

So, a daily chart is a mix of things that are going on quickly, like the moon, and things that are larger developments that move slowly, like Pluto.

Most of us can’t think back to a specific day in our and remember that day, unless it had special significance (like a marriage, child birth, etc). Likewise, a daily horoscope isn’t an entity in itself but a part of the cycle you are currently navigating

Make sense?

Nicolas Cage – Another Capricorn Loses It

If you are an astrologer or just read astrology blogs for fun, you are probably aware of Pluto’s transit through Capricorn. Transformation of the Capricorn area of your chart is in order and Capricorn suns will be hit at some point. Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods, Kate Middleton – these are the Capricorns most in the news right now although Gibson and Woods have calmed down for the most part. Just when I thought we were all quiet on the Capricorn front, I see that Capricorn Nicolas Cage was recently in a domestic dispute while drunk.

Capricorns hate to lose control.

So if Capricorns are losing control, that means life, for them, has become unbearable. If Pluto makes a transiting aspect in your chart, it’s just simply pushing the buttons that are already there to be pushed. For Pluto, your “buttons” are bright red and pulsating.

So now Pluto has pushed some buttons in the personality of Nicolas Cage. Which buttons?

Cage has Mercury, Sun and Mars in Capricorn. Pluto is just beginning to transit his Mercury. Mercury is communication and in the sign of Capricorn indicates a serious, practical mind and manner of speech. No astrologer has ever said Capricorn is a “nice” sign so during bad times, caustic, critical speech can be part of Capricorn’s communication method,

I see Cage’s real problem, though, as two things: Mars in Capricorn square moon in Libra and Saturn conjunct Venue in Aquarius. Both signify difficulty with women, and, if you are a heterosexual male, with love. If you’re a Freudian psychologist, this also indicates problems with the mother relationship.

Saturn is transiting Libra, touching Cage’s natal moon. Uranus, Jupiter and Mars are all in Aries opposing the natal moon. The intense opposition going on now with Aries / Libra is activating the underlying issues with women and emotions in Cage’s chart.

First, Mars in Capricorn square moon in Libra is frustration. I should be nice, but I want what I want now.

Cage’s moon is sensitive to what others think although Mars in Capricorn doesn’t give a damn and does whatever it wants. I’m guessing Cage vacillates between “I do care” and “I don’t care.” Drunken episodes are “I don’t care” but I bet he’s apologizing to someone right now.

Saturn conjunction Venus in Aquarius is a feeling of rejection in love. Sun in Capricorn isn’t the most trusting sign either. Combined, there is a strong propensity to feel rejection on a regular basis. Often those that carry feelings of rejection also do a lot of rejecting themselves in defense.

Venus and moon are in air signs, so I sense that Cage’s love interests are social, well-liked women who have groups of friends and are often with those friends. Cage, with inner sense of rejection, may not like when the women in his life are off happily socializing. The Saturn/Venus conjunction suggests he’s socially awkward and has difficulty with large groups and impersonal socializing. Most likely he wants to be around close companions only. I’m guessing that when his women are off, he gets controlling and wants them by his side.

I could imagine this type of situation bothering Cage – you invite him to dinner and then decide to invite another friend as well. Inviting that new person without letting him know will make him uncomfortable. Some people love to meet new people all the time and some people simply don’t.

Maybe Cage’s motivation in being an actor is to be part of a larger group in an impersonal way. As an actor he surely has a large fan base. I’m sure he appreciates that but would have difficulty walking into a big crowd of those fans.

Cage has only one planet in water and one planet in fire (don’t know rising sign because don’t know time of birth). A chart filled with air and earth is a sensation and thinking chart. It’s not a chart of feeling or passion. Cage won’t express his feelings well, but can be quite poetic at times with that Libra moon.

My guess on Cage’s drunken escapade is that he had some feeling of rejection and went into the Mars in Capricorn “I don’t care,” mode. But Libra moon suggests he does care. I’m guessing, too, that he is very concerned about his public image. Like all things, Pluto in Capricorn will pass. After it does, Cage should have a better balance of cooperation and control.

Kate Middleton – Another Capricorn Transformation

As Pluto transits Capricorn, we will experience transformation in the Capricorn area of our charts. If our sun is in Capricorn, transformation to the basic conscious self will be occurring. Mel Gibson & Tiger Woods have started this transformation – of their public images. I planned to write about another Capricorn loss of control with Nicholas Cage, but happened upon the fact that Kate Middleton, soon-to-be wife of Prince William is a Capricorn sun.

Middleton was recently one of the six billion people walking the earth that we don’t know about. After she marries, she will be the embodiment of an historical myth – royalty. Sounds like a Pluto transformation to me. To some it might sound wonderful. To me personally, it’s a burden I would never, ever want to carry.

Middleton has sun in ambitious Capricorn and the moon in the opposite home-loving sign of Cancer. Royalty does sound like a perfect fit to this conflict – a big family that can further one’s ambitions, if needed. Prince William is a Cancer sun / Cancer moon combination, so family life and belonging is the motivating factor in his personality. Kate, with sun in Capricorn, is the stronger personality in this pair.

Prince William’s sun/moon in Cancer square Mars in Libra. If 9:03 pm is the correct birth time, he has a Sagittarius rising. Ultimately he is a people pleaser. Sun/moon in the 7th house and quite a bit in the 10th suggest he loves socializing and being popular. He will not be the person in this marriage to tell the domestic help that the silver needs polishing.

Capricorn would prefer respect over being liked, although Middleton has some conflicts there as well. My guess is that she will end up being the true power broker while trying to maintain a positive public image. As a woman I am biased that this straddling can be more difficult for women than men. I suspect when Middleton is tough, she will receive critical response. The Capricorn in her can respond quite pointedly, but the moon in Cancer and Mars in Libra will tone it down or, if the Capricorn comes out, will feel guilty and apologize.

Comparing the charts, I think Prince William wants a strong personality to be his public face. That is the area I see the greatest conflict in the marriage. Good cop, bad cop with William saying the nice things. That only leaves one person to report that, really, there is a problem here . . .

Middleton and Prince William are only six months apart in age (she is older) so their outer planets are in the same signs representing that shared generation. Pluto recently passed over their mutual Neptune in Sagittarius suggesting that any illusions they had about each other and life in general have passed.  I think they are going into this marriage as clear headed as they can be. I also wonder if that Sagittarius energy didn’t make them think they could get married and move somewhere else . . . escape it all in some way . . .

If nothing else, I suspect they will have a little hideaway, as the sign of Cancer needs a protective shell, a place to retreat.

Both Middleton and Prince William are experiencing their Saturn returns. Saturn has a 28-year cycle and represents “settling down.” Saturn, owner of responsibility, makes us realize when we are 28-30 that there are limits, that we are mortal and makes us wonder what we are accomplishing in this life. While you are in school, you are told you can be anything. Out in the world at age 30, you realize there are limits to what you will accomplish.

Saturn’s return for these two is in the sign of Libra. Libra is the sign of partnership. That position natally indicates there is an insecurity about relationships. There may be a lot of wondering, “Does this person really like me?” The Saturn return means there is some lightening up of this insecurity. Both Middleton and Prince William are overcoming the feeling of “not being liked” and are accepting each other’s offer to be life partners.

Kate’s Mercury and Venus are in Aquarius. Aquarius is the sign of humanity so Middleton may continue her deceased mother-in-law’s work with groups of people with unique needs.

Good luck to Middleton in this ambitious life undertaking. Marriage itself is challenge enough. Adding the will of the people to this personal union is a challenge few of us can understand.

Neptune in Pisces

Neptune has just entered Pisces, the sign that it rules. Neptune is an outer planet like Uranus and Pluto and represents a generation, “the times.”  For example, the “me” generation has Pluto in Leo (born 1940-1958). The Neptune in Libra generation, who I call the “make love, not war” generation, were born 1943-1955 and grew up in the late 1960s. Uranus represents what is invented or discovered, Neptune what is idealized or worshipped and Pluto what is being destroyed and transformed.

What have we been idealizing?  And what will we idealize?

Neptune is leaving the sign of Aquarius (1996-2011). Aquarius rules brotherhood, groups, originality and individuality. Although Aquarius loves groups, it is not an emotional sign. It is more interested in the ideals of society than in nursing souls. You see Pisces serving soup at the homeless shelter. Aquarius will be in an office raising awareness of the need for the shelter, and maybe even raising funds. Being inventive I see Aquarius as interested in technology, technology being an impersonal bettering of our lives.

Writing about Aquarius, I think of Facebook, the impersonal, detached “friending” of everyone we know. I formally brand Neptune in Aquarius the “Facebook generation.”  We have idealized technology and have used technology to join us in a society that is not as community-based as it once was. With Facebook, I do get more birthday greetings than ever, but fewer and fewer cards and phone calls (and the same with me to others). It’s much easier to keep in touch, but not as personal.

Prior to Neptune in Aquarius, Neptune was in Capricorn from 1984-1997. What happened then?  I heard one astrologer (I can’t remember who) call it “the idealization of greed.”  This brought in the dot.com bubble, the lead-up to the housing bubble, and complicated financial transactions such as securitizations that ultimately contracted around 2006-2007. Read about Enron in its heyday and the complicated, misleading financial transactions they created to mimic true cash flow. Enron is Neptune in Capricorn.

Neptune in Pisces is the idealization of spirituality itself. There is so much religion around me, I can’t imagine more. But I see a rise in what was called in the past “spiritualism.”  According to Wikipedia, spiritualism’s rise was 1840s-1920s. Neptune coincidentally was discovered in 1846.

On the positive side, Pisces is empathic and I imagine we will start to truly feel each other’s pain. American awareness of where consumer goods originate seems to be growing and Americans are ever more concerned that the products they buy do not hurt others either in their manufacture or distribution. That is one aspect of Piscean empathy – when I drink my cup of tea, I can feel what this means to the people on the other side of the world who grow the tea, harvest the tea and send it to my local grocery store. I think we will be helping each other more, not just with checks in the mail, but in personal ways.

On the negative side, Pisces is a believer, and is vulnerable to being manipulated by others. Religious and spiritual beliefs, to me, are the core of our being. In our world of commerce, people want to sell to all inner needs, including this one. And some simply want to use it to gain power over others. This is a regular challenge of life – being open while also protecting the self. I believe in the idea of possession, but not as ghosts or evils spirits inhabiting an individual. I believe it is the living who cause damage to the living, the living that “possess” the living. Possession is sometimes called “the inner . . .” such as the inner mother or inner father, etc.

All three outer planets have recently changed signs:  Uranus entered Aries, Neptune entered Pisces and Pluto entered Capricorn. Together I imagine:  discovery of self while idealizing the spirit and transforming the structures of society. Sounds fascinating. What an incredible time to be alive!

Sherrod Brown – Don’t Ignore This Sleeping Lion

I almost forgot about Sherrod Brown, Ohio’s Democratic Senator. If Brown cared about this blog (which I’m sure he doesn’t), he would be offended. With a sun in Scorpio and moon in Leo, this is not a person to ignore. Or slight. Or suggest is “only human.”  The two fixed signs of Scorpio and Leo are very strong signs, filled with themselves. I have to admit there is probably good reason to think well of yourself with this sun and moon – Brown probably does have the energy of a few people inside one body.

Leo moon needs attention, adoration and respect. Scorpio sun does as well, but would never admit it. My experience of Leo moon is that it is practically insatiable with need for attention.  Did I mention that you can’t ignore Brown?

Jupiter is in T-square to the sun and moon, adding to Brown’s strong personality. He is so strong, in fact, that he is excessively stubborn. He will not change ideas quickly, but, if he does, will appear to have held that new view for a lifetime.

Good news for Brown is that American voters love, love, love fixed signs in office. Americans love a politician who holds clear, digestible views and does not waver. If Brown wants to move into national politics, which I’m guessing he does, he will probably find success.

Mars in Capricorn adds yet again to Brown’s strength and ambition, and adds a calculating aspect to his personality. Moon in Leo and sun in Scorpio can be very passionate and loving, but when they’re not, they are as cold as ice floes in the Antarctic. When Brown doesn’t like you, just go away. There is nothing you can do to change the situation.

A relief from this intensity comes from Mercury and Venus in Sagittarius. Brown’s love interests are able to provide him carefree fun and give him a break from his serious mission called “life.”  His Venus suggests that his mate is levity where he is gravity.

Brown most likely will get along well with Governor John Kasich who has sun in Taurus and moon in Capricorn. Both have stubborn, dogged persistence although Brown might have more insight into the motivations of others than Kasich does. These two will probably either completely agree or completely disagree with each other – neither will compromise. But they can co-exist well.

Right now transiting Saturn in Capricorn is probably causing Brown some frustration in ideals. It will pass by the end of 2012. As Pluto transits Brown’s natal ambitious Mars in Capricorn 2017-2018, if Brown is thinking national politics, this is when he will strike. The one area of politics in which Brown needs to continually adapt is frustration. It will always be there, others will never agree with you 100 percent, no matter how passionate your beliefs. Brown’s frustration threshold is low and others may not believe the obstacles are as great as Brown believes. Moon in Leo, sun in Scorpio is dramatic. It’s really not that bad.

I look forward to seeing this lion emerge from his den and take on national politics, if that is what he is thinking. Brown’s strength and fortitude will serve him well with the American public.

Jim Tressel

Jim Tressel is going to sit out five games of the 2011 OSU football season for violating NCAA rules by not reporting some players who were selling memorabilia. Tressel can watch the games at my place, if he wants. I will even buy him beer and snacks.

Not a big fan of football, I don’t really care about this terrible “transgression.” But rules are rules, so I do understand that Tressel must be punished. So what motivated him to hide this breaking of the rules?

Tressel has sun in Sagittarius and moon in Cancer. Sagittarius is a freedom-loving fire sign and Cancer is a home-loving sensitive water sign. My first guess on Tressel’s actions is that like me, someone who just doesn’t care about sports, the transgression doesn’t seem all that important. Sagittarius sun gives lots of license to others because Sagittarius is not very fond of restraints. The moon in Cancer signifies that Tressel has an emotional need for family and mothering. Tressel probably considers the football team his family. If you were a police officer and saw your beloved grandmother running a red light, would you give her a ticket? Or would you turn your head the other way?

We are all different. Some of us would give grandma a ticket (I wouldn’t) and some of us would. Tressel probably wouldn’t.

Tressel’s chart has quite a few conflicts, but enough checks and balances that his overall personality can remain balanced. The strongest conflict is a cardinal T cross with the moon in Cancer opposite Venus in Capricorn squaring a Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Libra.

The Saturn/Neptune conjunction is generational – the transit takes years to pass so it represents the trends, images and events of a generation. The conjunction in Libra suggests that relationships during this time were going through both spiritualization and restriction. I have always wondered about the images from the 1950s where women supposedly didn’t like sex. That would be the only 10 years in the last 10,000 where women weren’t actively involved in sexual attraction. But the images of the 1950s still prevail, for some odd reason. Those in the 1950s and born during the 1950s must feel that they grew up in an age where they were supposed to be pure like Doris Day and feel wrong and/or bad for not living up to this standard.

Venus in Capricorn suggests that while Tressel is open (Sagittarius) and loving (Cancer) to those around him, he is really quite selective about his inner circle. Tressel likes to hang with people of influence, people of authority and people respected in society.

Mars in Aquarius trine sun in Sagittarius draws Tressel to unique and unusual individuals. While Venus in Capricorn likes to dine with bigwigs, his Mars and sun draw him to interesting, quirky people.

I see Tressel as a man who has several spheres of friendships and relationships, none of which overlap. The weirdos, the family and the society. Which does Tressel like best, I wonder?  Because of the aspects of his chart, he is able to balance these different aspects of his personality and the different people they attract.

Another thing about Sagittarius – it is a gambler and risk taker. Sagittarius leaps before it looks so is often in accidents or unusual situations. This is probably not the first sticky situation Tressel has encountered in his life.

Jupiter in Taurus suggests that Tressel enjoys material comforts and also has always had material wealth. Moon in Cancer is a hoarder as well. While he might have some Sagittarian love of gambling, he probably always keeps a buffer of cash.

Rules are rules, I know and Tressel must be punished. Even if you wouldn’t give your grandma a speeding ticket, you know that, if caught, you will have to account for your actions. I’m guessing Tressel has often looked the other way in his life, but this time got caught.

Uranus in Aries

An earthquake in Japan.  A nuclear plant leaking radiation.  Civil unrest in the lands of oil.  Welcome to Uranus in Aries.  Now you’re thinking, “Another astrologer predicts terrible events.  That’s why I hate this stuff.”  I get it.  But remember, the energy of the planets and signs is not “good” or “bad.”  It is what it is.  If you’re going to play with nuclear energy, you’d better be very, very careful.  And if the ground under your nuclear plant is unstable, you might want to think twice about what you’re doing.  Uranus in Aries did not bring bad things to Japan.  Japan and other nations are playing with energy that is very potent.  The half-life of some of man’s radioactive waste is up to two million years!  No planet or sign is responsible for this – man is.  The transits of the planets represent energies acting on what currently exists.  Nuclear plants in earthquake zones currently exist.  Uranus in Aries is simply saying, what if I throw a sudden spark of Arian energy on that situation?  Then what?

Uranus is the planet of awakening, sudden awakening.  That awakening is moving into a fire sign saying the awakening will come through fiery energy, in impulsive and rash bursts.  As I say again and again, this energy is in all of our charts depending on our particular time of birth.  Uranus in Aries is transiting your chart.  Where will you have sudden bursts of awakening?  Have you built a nuclear reactor on a fault line in your life precipitating a dangerous “accident?”  Or did you decide in the past to either build your nuclear reactor on stable ground or not build it at all?  You, then, will not be facing this dangerous situation.  Make sense?

Let’s take a look at Uranus in Aries in the charts of Ohio politicians and see how sudden, fiery energy will affect their planets.  I don’t have the full horoscope for our Ohio politicos, so can talk only about the planetary aspects.  I won’t know there “where” of the transit, such as “love life” or “home life” or “career.”

John Kasich, Governor – This transit will affect his communications.  Kasich has already shown a tendency toward impulsive speech and it will probably get worse.  The impulsive speech will arise from a sense of frustration.  In the coming years, I see outright distortion of information, probably, again, from very frustrating circumstances.

John Boehner, Speaker of the House – This transit will affect his love and home life.  The public/private tensions will increase.

Frank Jackson, Mayor of Cleveland – This transit will have multiple effects on this complicated man.  Like Kasich, who shares a moon in Capricorn, there will be frustrations in person relations, especially with women.  But the transit also provides some freedom and relief from Jackson’s sense that his early life was not fair.  Jackson will also have unexpected sudden recognition for things accomplished in the past.

Michael Coleman, Mayor of Columbus – This transit does not affect Coleman as strongly as his fellow Ohio politicians.  I think Coleman will stand back and wonder why those around him seem so crazy and out of control.

Mark Mallory, Mayor of Cincinnati – This transit will energize Mallory.  Mallory will be filled with buzzing energy that makes him try new things and leap into the unknown.  Mallory will have the energy to accomplish his missions, no matter how outlandish.

Kasich, Jackson and Boehner all have aspects involving the moon which represents emotions and women.  This common thread makes me wonder if there will be a female politician or power broker involved in the lives of all three in the coming years.
