Blog re-post from September 25, 2011. Miss Ann is back in the news!

ohioastrology's avatarOhio Astrology

This morning I read about the home-spun authenticity of Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Of course, checking out the horoscope behind the authenticity was a must.

First let me say I LOVE THIS. Watching politicians’ attempts to project images takes me back to watching plays in elementary school. You’re taught by elementary school not to laugh (openly) at others but still don’t have the maturity to restrain your giggles watching your friends trying to portray characters in a play. Their acting is terrible, it’s funny and you laugh.

According to the AP story, Ann and Mitt Romney were flipping pancakes recently at a political fundraiser. Mrs. Romney is quoted in the article as saying that she served pancakes nearly every morning before her children went to school.

I don’t question the authenticity of Mrs. Romney’s love of making pancakes nearly every morning for her sons…

Republican Veep Fight Club: Condoleezza Rice

An OHA reader commented that “[Mitt] Romney is going to ask Condoleeza [sic] Rice to be VP.”

OHA made time in its busy schedule to look at the chart of the former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State.

In addition to these high and honorable titles, Rice is also an accomplished pianist. That Rice is extremely intelligent is clear.

Rice has also never been married (according to Wikipedia), which also attests to her intelligence . . .

Rice’s chart is almost entirely water with some air and fire and no earth. Mercury, Saturn, sun and Venus are in Scorpio while the moon, Uranus and Jupiter are in Cancer.

Mars in Aquarius and Neptune in Libra are air.

Pluto in Leo is fire.

This is one sensitive individual.

Scorpio is definitely a tough sign but also sensitive. I believe the revenge Scorpio is known for emanates from this extreme sensitivity. Cancer and Pisces are more openly vulnerable but Scorpio hides it. Scorpio obsesses then strikes out.

Scorpio is the detective of the zodiac who knows how to hide secrets and, thereby, knows how others hide their own. Scorpio doesn’t need a microscope and DNA evidence; Scorpio feels what’s going on.

Cancer is even more sensitive than Scorpio, easily hurt and not shy about shedding tears of both sadness and joy.

Cancer has the need to belong and loves family and other close, intimate groups.

Rice is not shallow. If she loves you, she is an extremely devoted and caring friend.

Now if she doesn’t like you, you may as well not even exist. With the Cancer in the chart, I suspect if she doesn’t like you it will show. Everyone will get a little treat with the holiday card but you. Your seat at the table will be the crack where two tables are joined. The raise you want has not been approved.

Don’t think she doesn’t notice every little thing that you’re doing and responding to it.

With Saturn conjunct sun and Uranus conjunct moon, Rice had an unusual set of parents, both controlling and unpredictable. Rice may be avoiding marriage not just due to her extreme intelligence but because her parents’ marriage wasn’t one that made her fond of the idea.

Rice does want deep, intense commitment but probably feels that others are either too controlling (Saturn on sun) or unpredictable (Uranus on moon). While she loves people and many love her back (moon and Jupiter in Cancer), she doesn’t fully trust another human being.

With a Scorpio, one betrayal signifies that there are 6 billion other people who might do the same.

Rice is suspicious but when you are past the gate, she would walk across Utah to give you a glass of water.

The lack of earth in Rice’s chart means that Rice isn’t grounded and prefers activities that provide emotional stimulation over activities that are chore-like such as washing the windows and fixing the house.

Saturn conjunct sun in Scorpio creates a person so disciplined they might be a military leader, yet there is not a true enjoyment of physical activity. Rice might spend three hours on the treadmill for the result it brings rather than physical enjoyment of the exertion. She might cook a fantastically complex meal, but only for the emotional enjoyment of seeing others share it, not for the physical sensation of preparing food.

Moon in Cancer does have its food issues, though, maybe even a little lactose intolerance.

Ohio Astrology Assessment

OHA gives Rice 10 stars out of 10.

Rice has proven herself a loyal and devoted public servant and appears to be a true Scorpio as there is no kiss and tell book out there with her name on it (unlike Dick Cheney).

Rice’s sun in Scorpio is conjunct Romney’s moon in Scorpio and Rice’s three planets in Cancer are trine Romney’s Pisces sun and Scorpio moon.

In addition, Rice’s Mars in Aquarius is conjunct Romney’s Venus.

If these were two single people looking to date, I would definitely set them up.

OHA gives Rice 10 stars because she would actually like Romney and support him from the heart. She also finds him attractive. The other candidates might have more support from the pocket (which holds the wallet) than from the heart.

There are two problems, both which this strong woman could overcome.

One is Rice’s Saturn (in Scorpio) conjunct Romney’s moon. Wow, this Scorpio thing arises again and again every time I look at the potential picks. Maybe the issue isn’t about Scorpio moon (Romney) doling out money but a problem with Romney finding a partner he can truly trust.

Both Rice and Romney are slow to trust. Romney may have mistrust of Rice because of her intense knowledge and possible possession of certain secrets.

Two is that moon in Cancer is extremely sensitive and the ugliness of one’s personal life being probed will be highly unpalatable to Rice (as it would to any normal human being).

If Rice does find herself in this position, she can talk to a Scorpio sun / Pisces moon combination for advice – Hillary Clinton.

If Romney and Rice could develop trust in each other and Rice could stand the probing of her personal life, these two could be a successful team. Not only do they share political views, but they might truly like each other.

What do PowerPoint Presentations and Cars Have in Common?

I’ve always felt we are our truest selves when in our cars, alone. In our cars, battling traffic on the way to work, we dare to flip off others and make nasty, grimacing faces.

Would we dare do this at the grocery if someone bumped us with their cart?

Some do, of course, but most of us are different when physically ten feet away than we are when behind the power and metal of a car.

The car, then, is like our 4th house of a horoscope, our real self when no one is around or when we are around our closest family and companions.

PowerPoint, for those of you not living in the squares of a corporate organization chart, is a program created by Microsoft for presentations.

Oh, how people love PowerPoint.

My experience is that everyone believes himself/herself to have the best PowerPoint presentations. Everywhere you go the standard is different but each company believes its standard to be the one correct standard.

Sounds a lot like culture, doesn’t it?

PowerPoint is the presentation we show the world. PowerPoint is a mirror in which we look at ourselves and see our image reflected back. PowerPoint is the 1st house of the horoscope.

PowerPoint is the outside and our car is the inside of our personal selves.

Personality Assessment by PowerPoint and Car Driving Styles

Astrology takes years to learn as it’s an analytical exercise of math, geometry and synthesis of numerous points of data.

To make astrology easier, OHA likes to use real-life manifestations of astrological principles for easier assimilation.

Find below the style of PowerPoint and car driving and you’ll have an idea of your friend/co-worker/loved one’s 1st and 4th house signs. It may also be a good indication of sun (PowerPoint) and moon (car driving) signs.

The sun is our conscious self and the moon our reactive self.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS BY SIGN

ARIES competes through presentations with lots of charts, large bold text and animated graphics. It’s the presentation that doesn’t load because of too much animation.

TAURUS is simple and to the point with one-sentence slides and simple, easy-to-understand graphics, like pie charts.

GEMINI is inconsistent and creates presentations where no slide looks alike or follows the same format. Slide ideas are not clearly connected.

CANCER tries to make the presentation personal by adding graphics that evoke feeling such as dollar bills in the sales presentation or cookies in food sales charts.

LEO uses the largest font possible, bright colors and charts that dazzle and amaze so that the lack of text and content is overlooked. It’s not about the content, stupid.

VIRGO creates the “novel as PowerPoint” type of presentation and reads each line to you. Virgo should avoid creating PowerPoint presentations and stick to novels.

LIBRA creates balanced presentations of charts, graphics and text. These are the presentations you envy in their beauty.

SCORPIO is careful what it shows in the presentation as it fears the revealing of secrets and subsequent loss of power. Charts may not measure data equally and may deliberately lead you to the wrong conclusion.

SAGITTARIUS wants you to think and wonder so look for charts and graphics that provide meaning and more questions than answers. The presentation is a guide to conversation, not a manual.

CAPRICORN creates presentations that meet exactly the corporate standards, down to the font size and useless header/footer graphics. Content is authoritative and there is no question and answer slide at the end.

AQUARIUS will rebel against PowerPoint and present in some program off the Internet. Content may appear to be from video game.

PISCES when found in a corporate setting, will create, uneven presentations that don’t really explain anything. Pisces has deep understanding of the content, it just can’t say it in a PowerPoint.

CAR DRIVING BY SIGN

ARIES is always in the fast lane, tailing you and trying to move ahead. If you pass Aries, be sure to look for Aries passing you in competitive return.

TAURUS is also in the fast lane but not driving at the speed limit. Taurus has one speed (always) regardless of lane.

GEMINI is weaving in and out of traffic. Gemini doesn’t weave to get ahead; it’s weaving because it’s fun.

CANCER is talking to the companion in the car. Cancer rarely drives alone.

LEO is passing you and letting you know that you are being punished for driving slowly. Leo also looks in the mirror a lot (at itself).

VIRGO is driving the speed limit because Virgo 1) follows the rules and 2) actually read the speed limit sign, something others rarely do.

LIBRA drives fast and slow, often in the same drive. It drives slow in the fast lane and fast in the slow lane.

SCORPIO is a focused, deliberate driver who does not tail or weave but gets ahead of you somehow.

SAGITTARIUS loves to drive fast because it’s sublime. It’s not tailing you in competition or to punish you; it’s tailing you because you’re in the way of the exhilarating ride.

CAPRICORN follows all the rules of driving and gives you a nasty look because you’ve broken a rule, whether you know it or not. Capricorn may be driving slow in the fast lane, but thinks it’s driving fast.

AQUARIUS is focused on the traffic patterns and has determined the appropriate speed and distance during these particular conditions so that no one has to break. The angry look you see on Aquarius’ face is because no one gets it.

PISCES is not really driving, it’s daydreaming. If you see a Pisces bumper sticker, just stay away as the driver is physically in the car but the imagination is not on this planet.

Republican Veep Fight Club: Rob Portman

Another name tossed around for Mitt Romney’s running mate is Ohio native and US Senator Rob Portman.

Ohio politicians are OHA’s eminent domain, area of expertise, core competency, low-hanging fruit and customer-centric deliverable.

Etc., etc.

Businessman Romney would understand that if you call your blog “Ohio Astrology,” you ought to deliver astrology about Ohio.

Here it is, as promised in the advertising.

Rob Portman

Moon in Aquarius

Portman’s time of birth is needed to determine moon sign. Support OHA by sending times of birth when available. It may be tax deductible, you never know.

Portman’s sun is in Sagittarius and moon in either Aquarius or Pisces.

Sagittarius / Aquarius make for a scientific-minded individual who probably took the refrigerator apart as a child to see how it functioned. This is a combination that is constantly learning, who, at the age of 85 decides to get a PhD and learn a new language.

Making friends is easy for a Sagittarius / Aquarius because this combination loves interesting ideas and interesting conversation and wants to learn about everyone. What better way to learn about everything in the universe than through the people who do the everything.

Meet a person who plays the clarinet and learn a little about music. Meet a person who mushroom hunts and learn how to pick an edible, non-toxic mushroom.

While Sagittarius and Aquarius are both super, duper friendly, neither likes clinging attachment. Try to hang on to this combination and watch them slip away into the farther stars in the galaxy.

Moon in Pisces

If the moon is in Pisces, it’s a little different. Sagittarius / Pisces create an almost mystic personality. The Sagittarian inquisitiveness is still there, but there is more intuition of the non-scientific sort. This is someone who follows his hunch and is usually correct in doing so.

There’s more shyness with this combination. It’s still a great chess partner but someone who is must less mentally organized than Sagittarius / Aquarius. With Pisces, the answers arrive and the path from A to B can’t really be traced backwards.

The sock drawer is a mess and the hair needs cut.

With Pisces moon, there is more emotion and moodiness in the personality.

Other planets

Portman has Mercury and Venus in Capricorn making for a serious speaker and studious person. Before giving a lecture, Portman probably spends time making notes and studying (especially with moon in Aquarius; if Portman has an organizer with note cards, then I vote Aquarius moon).

Saturn and Mars are in Scorpio adding more seriousness to the personality. Sagittarius is not serious in itself, but other planets in his chart make Portman a more serious responsible Sagittarius (I’ll have to meet him some time since I’ve never met one of these creatures).

Jupiter is in Virgo, which might be opposite moon (if in Pisces). That would create some anxiety and add details to the above-mentioned note cards.

I’m getting the image of a man who can remember everything and everything which, to some, is called a “know it all.”

Outer planets Pluto and Uranus are in Leo and Neptune in Libra. He’s of the “Me Generation” (Leo) that “Makes Love, Not War” (Libra).

Ohio Astrology Assessment

OHA gives Rob Portman 8 stars out of 10 (moon in Aquarius) or 9 stars out of 10 (moon in Pisces).

Portman’s sun in Sagittarius lends some fun and enthusiasm to life and political campaigns.

If moon is in Aquarius, Portman would also provide some fixed qualities and a little more “man of the people” type of feel.

If moon is in Pisces, I can see Portman truly liking Romney, unlike some of the other candidates. However, too much mutable makes for adaptable but unpredictable individuals. It might bother the pundits but it wouldn’t bother Portman and Romney.

The only problem I see here is Portman’s Mars/Saturn in Scorpio on Romney’s Jupiter/moon in Scorpio. Once again, money becomes an issue with Romney doling out the funds.

The other problem with this Saturn conjunct moon synastry in Scorpio is that Romney may want Portman to hold secrets that Portman is not comfortable with. With Mars in Scorpio, Portman has some secrets of his own but won’t necessarily like playing “omerta” for Romney.

If Portman’s moon is in Aquarius, this will be even more of a problem as Portman is generally transparent in his ideas, although he is discreet in his person (Mercury and Venus in Capricorn).

While Portman has this Scorpio in his chart, he seems more interested in ideas than gossip.

Republican Veep Fight Club: Bob McDonnell

This short list of possible Mitt Romney Veep picks (according to this story) includes Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

Where to begin?

I’ll start where I always do – sun and moon.

McDonnell has sun in Gemini and moon in Sagittarius. Sound familiar?

Newt Gingrich, current Republican presidential nominee, has this same sun and moon.

Luckily for McDonnell, he has more balance. Mars in Capricorn provides grounded, focused direction and Jupiter/Mercury/Uranus/Venus in Cancer provides a true feeling (and loving) nature.

However, Capricorn and Cancer are opposites and so are Gemini and Sagittarius. McDonnell is a man of polar opposites.

Gemini and Sagittarius are fun signs and, like Gingrich, can rouse the crowd because who doesn’t like some jolly, good-natured fun?

Who doesn’t like in the middle of a long drive to see a road off the side of the highway, wonder where it goes and spontaneously hop on it?

Who doesn’t like ice cream for breakfast sometimes? And who hasn’t neglected a bill and spent the money on something fun and frivolous?

Maybe Mitt Romney.

Mars in Capricorn is a calculating, driven placement. It opposes a great deal of Cancer energy (Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus and Venus) suggesting that McDonnell feels a strong drive to succeed but is often pulled back by family, a loving and generous family.

Back and forth, this is McDonnell.

A fun, loving and spontaneous back and forth, but back and forth.

McDonnell is also a wanderer and bedside philosopher. Essentially he is seeking meaning and belonging. From all that energy in Cancer, he appears to be surrounded by a very loving family and community.

With all that love, I’m imagining a man who is loved and comfortable but has a desire for something he can’t exactly put his finger on. He knows he’s blessed and shows his appreciation, but occasionally can’t resist wandering off to look for that something else . . .

Ohio Astrology Assessment

OHA gives McDonnell 7 stars out of 10.

McDonnell would bring to the ticket energy, fun and a feeling that he’s part of your community so you can be part of his community (Cancer energy).

Romney could use a person who emanates a feeling of inclusion.

On a personal level, Gemini and Sagittarius are mutable signs which would square Romney’s Piscean energy. Romney will feel very uncomfortable with a man who wanders off and can’t be found even if that man is at a donor’s house having Sunday dinner after that church function on the schedule.

McDonnell’s Saturn is in Scorpio, the same sign as Romney’s moon. For Romney, McDonnell will cost money. Romney may have to pay off some debts for McDonnell.

If balance is what is necessary for Romney in the general election, McDonnell will provide that. As long as Romney can let go of moon in Scorpio control and let Bob be Bob, McDonnell could provide the fun, rollicking times that voters seek during a general election.

If an election isn’t any fun, what’s the purpose?

Reality and Imagination

Think about your favorite TV show, the characters and the interactions.

Notice something missing?

What’s missing are all the things we do in our daily lives.

If we track the hours of a day spent preparing food, eating food, cleaning up food, sleeping, commuting, working and engaging in other mundane life activities (balancing the checkbook, getting an oil change, buying light bulbs), we find we have little precious “leisure time.”

Yet when watching our favorite TV shows we are seeing our character friends exclusively in their leisure time. If not, then we are seeing them in work that is 100% engaging 100% of the time (hospital ER, courtroom, crime scene).

We don’t watch our TV characters clip coupons and rearrange the cupboards. They don’t change the sheets and wash the windows. They never, ever, clean the dryer lint trap.

Why not?

TV emphasizes the interactions that contain meaning. In TV land, laundry and work and making toast are emphasized only if it provides meaning to the interactions.

We don’t see people washing dishes simply because dishes must be washed.

Virgo and Pisces

Virgo rules work and routine (and the 6th house) and its opposite sign Pisces rules sacrifice and spiritual states (the 12th house). Barbara Hand Clow describes this polarity in “Alchemy of Nine Dimensions” as “be here now” (6th) and “bliss” (12th).

Virgo is the discriminating mind and Pisces the uncritical mind.

Virgo is analysis, Pisces synthesis.

Virgo is many, Pisces is one.

This article on the five regrets of the dying sparked this blog and suggests that on our deathbeds, we think more in terms of Pisces than Virgo.

Sensitivity and Detail

Both Pisces and Virgo are sensitive signs. I think of the folktale of the Princess and the Pea as relating to this polarity.

Based on the Wikipedia summary, the prince is looking for a princess and can find no suitable candidate. A woman spends the night claiming to be the princess but is not believed. Only after sleeping on a 20-mattress buffer to a small pea and declaring she couldn’t sleep due to a hard object does the prince believe her.

Virgo is the picky prince who can’t find the perfect mate and is unbelieving of the princesses’ divine heritage. The princess is a Pisces who can feel the subtlest stimuli from the farthest distance.

Virgo picks at everything and Pisces feels everything.

If you have a friend who can’t eat your dinner because of allergies, changes chairs because of a draft, asks you to turn off the light because of the glare and then pulls out a decaffeinated tea bag, you know you have Virgo/Pisces energy in the room.

Reality and Imagination

I believe there is great bliss in doing meaningful work of any sort, from washing dishes to computer programming, but our world requires that we engage mostly in activity that provides no real meaning to our spiritual selves.

As with TV shows, our imaginative lives do not include mowing the lawn unless our fantasy involves a meaning around mowing the lawn, such as the fantasy of a lawn that cuts itself while you sit on the deck drinking martinis and watching the sunset.

Imagination is the meaning without the details and reality is the details without the meaning.

Imagination is the bubble and reality is the pin. Come up with an imaginative idea and tell people and the first thing they will do is pull out the pins.

Merging Virgo (Reality) and Pisces (Imagination)

A merging of Virgo and Pisces is creating a blissful state in every detail of our lives.

I believe that is the goal of meditation and why in a meditation retreat you remove the details that are not necessary for the weekend’s survival and then focus exclusively on the details of each moment including sitting, breathing, walking, chewing and thinking.

What is called “mindfulness” then may be the merging of Virgo and Pisces energy.

Neptune in Pisces

Neptune has just begun its 15-year transit of the sign it rules, Pisces. Mars is currently retrograde in Virgo until mid-summer.

Neptune in Pisces will be seeking meaning in life and probably begin rejecting some of those many extraneous details of our everyday lives.

As Mars transits Virgo, which it will do many times in the next 15 years, it says, “Bliss sounds nice, but who’s paying the rent this month?”

As all the other planets continue on their paths and people engage in their everyday activities, Neptune will hang out above them and say, “But what does it mean? On your deathbed will this activity have mattered?”

Republican Veep Fight Club: Paul Ryan

Today’s astrological veep vetting focuses on Paul Ryan.

In case you’re not a regular OHA reader, OHA not only studies political figures, but offers practical, useful advice whenever possible.

Call it “OhioCare.”

Astrological insight can help Mitt Romney, the inevitable Republican Presidential Candidate, save lots of time (and money) in choosing a running mate. Slogging through resumes and digging through manila files stored in locked cabinets takes critical time away from promoting the campaign message.

What is Romney’s campaign message, by the way?

Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan, Wisconsin representative, is in news stories today as a potential veep for Romney.

Ryan has sun in Aquarius and moon either in Libra or Scorpio. Scorpio usually has an intense stare. From my Google image search, I think Scorpio moon might be accurate.

Sun and Venus are conjunct in Aquarius. Aquarius is the fixed air sign and my vote for most stubborn sign of the zodiac.

All fixed signs are stubborn. Taurus is stubborn in the earth realm (habit), Leo in the fire realm (attention), Scorpio in the emotional realm (obsession) and Aquarius in the air realm (ideals).

Aquarius has its own set of habits, but unique habits. The way to get an Aquarius (and Leo) to do the opposite of what you want is to say, “Do this my way.”

Venus conjunct Aquarius brings beauty. Ryan is probably charismatic and attractive to both men and women as Aquarius is quite androgynous.

If the moon is in Scorpio, there is a nice T-square in the chart between moon and Jupiter (in Scorpio), sun and Venus (in Aquarius) and Saturn (in Taurus).

A T-square is stubborn times three and the most difficult sign for Ryan is Leo. Leo creates agitation in the T-square by adding the fourth and final fixed sign thereby creating a grand cross of willful opposition.

Speaking of Leo, Romney has Saturn and Pluto in Leo, representing Romney’s lack of confidence and energetic vigor. Sayings like “It’s been a tough road” are realistic and humble; Leo would have turned that same thought into, “I knocked seven suckers out of my way.”

Romney’s Saturn/Pluto in Leo would create tension for Ryan. I’m guessing that because of the planets involved, attention would be pulled away from Ryan (and his obsessive ideas) and drawn to the negative aspects of Romney’s personality.

Ryan’s Aquarius and Scorpio combination describes an individual who is at times aloof and at times obsessive. Aquarius/Scorpio is probably obsessive all the time but would use every bit of energy in the system to appear unconcerned.

Ryan is probably the type you meet at a political function who shakes your hand and gives you his “every day” look of acknowledgment. But as you comb the party eating hors d’oeuvres and wondering if anyone saw you drop brie on your shirt, you look up and notice that Ryan is watching you.

Later as you drink one too many glasses of free booze and look around to see if anyone noticed and you see that Ryan is watching you again.

He’s always watching.

Ryan does have Mars in Aries, a very nice placement as Mars rules Aries, which would bring some fire to the ticket. Ryan is openly aggressive (unless moon is in Libra).

Ohio Astrology Assessment

OHA gives Ryan 8 stars out of 10.

Romney’s and Ryan’s chart are not incompatible at all. They would probably do well together, keeping fights to themselves and looking mighty fine standing next to each other.

I like the fixed signs in Ryan’s chart as the US loves its fixed-sign presidents. Fixed signs show a fierce tenacity that is needed to survive the Executive branch.

I’m really tossing around 9 points but I’m just not sure where the moon is placed. If the moon is in Libra, there’s some indecisiveness that will not be useful to Romney.

Also Romney’s Saturn/Pluto in Leo will bring energy into Ryan’s life that he will definitely not enjoy.

And lastly, Ryan has Saturn in Taurus. Ryan is born only a year before Marco Rubio who has several planets in Taurus, including Saturn.

As with Rubio, Saturn in Taurus represents a feeling of material lack. As with Rubio, I wonder if Ryan would become Romney’s running mate because he was excited about Romney or because with money like Romney’s, he would even go to Massachusetts and marry him.

Republican Veep Fight Club: Marco Rubio

The April 3 primary wins and endorsements by the behemoths of the Republican Party clearly indicate that Mitt Romney will be the Republican Presidential candidate in this November’s general election.

Now the fun begins as Romney decides who to take to the prom. Vetting vice presidential candidates is time-consuming and takes precious energy away from attacking Obama’s health care reform. Ohio Astrology would like, as usual, to help where it can by vetting some candidates.

Astrological vetting, of course.

Is there any other way?

Marco Rubio

Rubio is sun in Gemini and moon in Cancer or Leo.

If the moon is in Cancer, the first image that comes to mind is of an emotional and changeable individual. Rubio is both the silliest and most fun companion you could have and also the most moody one.

Catch him on a good day and he’ll jump in the car and join you for a day of hooky to watch a baseball game. Catch him on a bad day and . . . you probably won’t find him. You called and he said he’d be there, but when you arrived he wasn’t around.

Cancer hides and Gemini avoids entrapment, especially entrapment by boring activity.

My first impression gave me a hint of someone else. Now who is it?

Ah, there’s famous politician who has sun in Cancer and moon in Gemini, also a changeable and moody combination. And who is that person?

George Romney, father to Mitt Romney.

Rubio and George Romney are born 64 years apart so do not share many outer planet aspects. For Romney Rubio’s moodiness won’t seem as extreme as George Romney’s moodiness.

If moon is in Leo, we still have a fun-loving and somewhat irresponsible individual, but with a little less changeableness and more desire for life to be pure fun. Moon in Leo does not get hurt feelings like moon in Cancer but must always, and I mean always, be the center of attention.

Sun in Gemini and moon in Leo is one show off.

Now onward to Rubio’s Venus, Mercury and Saturn in Taurus. Mucho Taurus equals mucho concern with dinero (money). Saturn in Taurus represents an individual who grew up feeling a lack of material resources. Venus in Taurus loves finery so there is a great desire for beautiful objects (including of the person sort).

Romney, the person and the political candidate, clearly has mucho, mucho dinero and that might be a great appeal to Rubio. Even if political money is not for personal use, it will feel good to Rubio to roll in piles of cash. With Jupiter transiting Taurus right now, cash is probably coming Rubio’s way without the nomination.

If Rubio does become Veep, he might be advised to be careful with the coffers.

Rubio’s Mars in Aquarius is conjunct Romney’s Venus. Romney is very, very attractive to Rubio. Attractive in the political sense is probably attraction to the power and the money (yes, I mentioned money again).

Rubio is at the tail end of the Pluto in Virgo generation (who has Uranus in Libra). Rubio’s Pluto is opposite Romney’s sun indicating that Rubio will be the critical partner in any relationship with Romney. Rubio will be demanding.

Jupiter and Neptune conjunct in Sagittarius in Rubio’s chart, opposite sun in Gemini, speaks to more changeability of the Newt Gingrich sort. Rubio is one to see something shiny in the distance, drop his corn-on-cob, leave the picnic and run to see what’s shining.

That same chasing-shiny-things quality lends to a sense of excitement and enthusiasm that could clearly help the charisma-challenged Romney.

Rubio’s Uranus in Libra is conjunct Romney’s Neptune in Libra. Romney idealizes relationships and Rubio wants unique, unusual relationships. Rubio, if Veep, will challenge the entire concept of Veep.

Rubio is not your father’s vice presidential candidate.

Ohio Astrology Assessment

OHA gives Rubio 5 stars out of 10.

Rubio may be too much like George Romney and may spark in Mitt Romney uncomfortable feelings from the past. Time of birth is needed to determine moon sign.

While Rubio has charm and charisma that Romney lacks, he may be too challenging of Romney in the personal sphere. While a shiny companion may help Romney, shiny also casts a shadow which could fall in the wrong places.

Rubio is probably too inconsistent with sun in Gemini opposite Jupiter and Neptune in Sagittarius. Yes, I know the Romney campaign is an Etch-a-Sketch, but someone needs to be drawing the picture. Two men being etched and sketched might create a disjointed partnership.

And lastly, OHA worries about the money issues in Rubio’s chart. Just like marriage, Romney should choose a bride that truly loves him and not a bride that is marrying for money and status.

Ohio Political Fight Club: Carney and Hall

Yesterday there was a rare knock on my door. My visitor was a young student lobbying for John Patrick Carney, Democratic candidate for Ohio House of Representatives, District 22.

Carney must be hoping the early bird gets the worm. My Taiwanese friends say, “Don’t get up early or you’ll be eaten by a bird.”

The flyer I was given says that Carney knocks on a lot of doors. My vote was requested, and a promise granted.

It feels nice to be wanted.

As I spoke with the student, my tuxedo cat Lacy snuck out the door. Having no screen door due to landlord negligence, escape was easy. She clearly wanted to be part of the conversation.

The cat’s questions

After I got Lacy back inside, she asked, “What does a representative to a state house actually do?”

“They do government stuff,” I answered vaguely.

“What kind of stuff?”

If you don’t have a cat, remember, before adopting one, that they are persistent in their questions.

“Local stuff.” I snuck a peek at the flyer. “House bills cover all kinds of state legislative issues like school lunches and blood donations.”

“Can Carney get us a screen door?” Lacy asked with feline innocence.

“Carney knocks on doors; he doesn’t fix doors. Fixing the door is the landlord’s job. If politicians had to do the work of landlords, they would be too busy to do much else.”

John Patrick Carney

Carney is running against Republican Andrew C. Hall. I haven’t yet found Hall’s date of birth.

Carney is an Aries sun and Pisces moon, like the mayor of Cincinnati Mark Mallory. You might call that combination aggressively emotional or emotionally aggressive.

Aries sun is competitive and Pisces moon is empathetic. Carney is probably genuine in his desire to meet and mix with the folks in the neighborhood.

Competition and empathy are not natural bedfellows so Carney might seem at times to be both a friend and a foe. Or maybe Carney hides that competitive nature under the mantel of concern.

There’s a lot of Pisces going on this election season. Republican presidential candidate and likely nominee Mitt Romney has sun in Pisces. The US hasn’t had a Pisces sun president since 1897 (Grover Cleveland).

Neptune, the planet that rules Pisces, is transiting Pisces bringing this emotional and passive sign into the spotlight. I’m eager to see what this Piscean energy will bring us as a nation.

Hopefully the Piscean energy will bring empathy and understanding of others. The shadow side of Pisces is manipulation and the blind following of charismatic figures.

Carney can help with understanding because he has five of the ten planets in water. In addition to moon in Pisces, Carney has Venus in Pisces, Mars and Saturn in Cancer and Uranus in Scorpio.

With Venus and moon in Pisces, as a child Carney probably carried home the books of many a cute little school girl.

Carney has one planet in air (Pluto), three in fire (Mercury and sun in Aries, Neptune in Sagittarius) and one planet in earth (Jupiter in Taurus).

With mostly fire and water, Carney is an intuitive feeler. That Pisces energy combined with Neptune in Sagittarius makes for a wandering dreamer. He probably has stared out of a lot of windows during class time thinking about how he can help others create a better society.

Others probably tell him, “That’s a great idea, but no one will do what you’re saying. I’d love for society to be like that, but others won’t follow.”

Saturn in Cancer suggests that Carney is seeking a sense of community and belonging because of a feeling of lack in these areas.

While Uranus was transiting Pisces for the last seven years, there were lots of water disasters. These disasters have brought us closer as a nation and closer in local communities. My guess is Carney is part of this energy pattern. He wants us to unite.

The current transit of Uranus in Aries is conjunct Carney’s Mercury and sun. He may feel sudden bursts of energy and may have some foot in the mouth disease. Moon in Pisces doesn’t like to express anger, but Aries must. Some suppressed anger may sneak out in caustic language.

Carney has just passed some relationship rough patches and will have some rest until about October.

Having written about a lot of politicians in the past few months, I feel this October timeframe when Saturn enters Scorpio will be a nasty time as last-minute pre-election mudslinging will be in full force. It may be ugly even by political standards.

Carney’s Jupiter in Taurus is the only earth sign in the chart. Carney, with a lack of earth, has some trouble grounding at times and also lacks detachment. Lacking detachment can mean you care, but it also means you have trouble letting go.

Jupiter is currently transiting Taurus so Carney can expect financial gain and property expansion. With Jupiter in Taurus, Carney feels materially secure, like he has “enough.”

Back to the cat

“You know, Lacy,” I said, “after looking at Carney’s chart, I do think he’d get a screen door for us.”

“Why don’t you ask him, then?”

“I hate to take advantage of a Pisces moon. Pisces will sacrifice itself for you to the point of victimhood.”

“If he’s a politician, he should do something for us.” Lacy said, tail in the air.

“If he truly cares, being in politics is enough of a sacrifice.”

Jim Yong Kim – World Banker?

In astrology the signs that rule money are Taurus and Scorpio. I think of Taurus as “my money” and Scorpio as “your money.”

Taurus earns its keep and balances the checkbook while Scorpio becomes the commercial lender and controls the money of his fellow men. Scorpio is the tax collector.

You’d expect, then, to find lots of Taurus and Scorpio in the highest seats of the banking kingdom.

Interestingly enough, I’m not finding that.

Astrology is garbage then, you say.

Astrology helps me understand patterns of this complex world and mega-banking is just one more pattern to understand. If Taurus rules money, why aren’t people who understand money running our banks?

In my blog “Astrology of America’s Top Bankers,” I learned that America’s bankers have Mars/Aries energy or Capricorn energy. Banking, then, is not about balancing the checkbook but about competition (Mars/Aries) and control (Capricorn).

The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, is a Sagittarius sun and Pisces moon, a risk taker and dreamer. What’s a risk taker doing running the Federal Reserve? Maybe the Federal Reserve isn’t really about stabilizing the US economy but about managing global risk.

Jim Yong Kim

President Obama has recently nominated Jim Yong Kim as head of the World Bank. OHA once again dug into the horoscope hoping to hit some rock (earth sign), but came up with fire.

Kim has Mars, Jupiter and sun in fire sign Sagittarius. It is no surprise with Jupiter and Mars conjunct sun that Kim is an athlete (according to Wikipedia).

Kim’s moon is either in Pisces or Aries. Athletic ability points to Aries.

If that moon is in Aries, Kim is aggression personified, the poster boy for aggression, a man with aggression as his middle name. And, he’s aggressive.

Kim seems to have been birthed with an extraordinary amount of energy which probably is the key reason for his many successes in life. I’m guessing he doesn’t sleep much.

Jupiter and Sagittarius are both associated with luck, benevolence, generosity and, on the other side of the spectrum, risk-taking, irresponsibility and recklessness.

Does this man balance his checkbook?

I’m imagining his checkbook is balanced but by people who live under his energetic and intense command.

Kim is the type to demand perfection of others (Pluto in Virgo square stellium in Sagittarius) but would not blink an eye when he did not follow those same rules. Sagittarius can be like that – lofty ideals but lax in practice because Sagittarius is not strong on self-control.

Will Kim pass the nomination process?

I’m not sure what the process is for World Bank nomination. However, from the current transits, Kim may be in for some trouble.

First, Mars transiting Virgo is conjunct Kim’s natal Pluto in Virgo and square natal Mars in Sagittarius. Mars and Pluto are like Mentos and Coke – an explosive mixture. Mars will be igniting Plutonian critical rage for Kim for the next month. Kim will both issue and receive harsh criticism.

Once Mars moves past Pluto, it will be squaring Kim’s Jupiter and sun in Sagittarius. Sagittarius likes freedom and Virgo likes to nit-pick so Kim will feel a cramp in his style. Maybe someone will tell him to stop whatever it is he does for fun and provide him a book written by Miss Manners in preparation for his nomination process.

His counselors may tell him to have a cup of herbal tea and go to bed early every night until the process completes, something Kim is probably genetically unable to do.

Meanwhile, transiting Pluto is conjunct Kim’s Saturn in Capricorn. Yikes, although Sagittarius is generally a friendly sign, I can’t imagine that Kim is being real nice right now. The powers that be are trouncing on Kim and Kim is probably sending the powerfully constricting energy downward to anyone in the way.

I’m sure someone is picking through Kim’s past right now – which brings me to his Venus/Neptune conjunction in Scorpio.

Saturn will leave Libra and hit that conjunction this October when it enters Scorpio. If Kim has some leather and chains in the closet, I’m guessing we will all hear about it in October. Venus/Neptune in Scorpio is imaginative in a darkly psychological and often sexual way.

What else?

If Kim’s moon is in Aries, Uranus is shaking that up right now. Whether in Aries or Pisces, Uranus has been interacting with that moon which means sudden explosions of emotions, often involving women.

Whether Kim makes it through the nomination process or not, it’s going to be a tough process. Kim is an extraordinarily energetic fighter, so if he is attacked, I’m sure he will return the fire. But we may learn more about Kim than he’d like during this process.

What sign should you be to run a World Bank?

Prior to studying bankers, if I were on a quiz show and the host asked me “What sign should you be to run a World Bank?” I would have hit the buzzer and yelled, “Taurus.”

During these tough economic times I hear folks talk about tightening the belt and balancing the budget. That’s Taurus stuff.

When I look at the heads of the banks, Federal Reserve and World Bank, I don’t see practical souls who just want to balance the books.

Instead I see competition, aggression and risk-taking.

Astrology is teaching me that my image of a banker comes from “It’s a Wonderful Life” rather than from reality. In reality, our bankers are entrepreneurs forcing us into growth. With growth comes risk and risk means one can win big or lose it all, or something in between.

But when does risk-taking become gambling?

And in global finance who is the gambler and who is the house?

Maybe money is like energy – it is never destroyed, it just changes forms – and hands.
