The Serious Michelle Obama

Election year has begun! While the Republican Presidential candidates are busy attacking each other and evil businessmen who make lots of money, “The Obamas,” a book about Barack Obama’s family, has been published.

While I love reading history, these are the kinds of books I avoid. Publishing is a business like any other and releasing a book about an incumbent president during election year is solely a way to make money. From an historical point of view, if you write about something while it is occurring it’s journalism, not history. While I enjoy the gossip of these types of books, I think it takes years after events for books to be published that truly explain historical events.

Sun in Capricorn / Moon in Aquarius

Michelle Obama has sun in Capricorn and moon either in Aquarius or Pisces. Astrotheme has chosen the Aquarius moon based on someone’s chart rectification of Obama’s life events.

Finding Obama difficult to understand, I would agree with the Aquarius moon which would be conjunct Saturn in Aquarius.

Glancing at the charts of Obama’s husband and children, there is a preponderance of air signs in the family (Aquarius is air).

Serious Person

Sun in Capricorn and moon in Aquarius is one serious person. It’s serious squared with a mind like a file cabinet. Barack Obama was quoted somewhere as saying that his wife has always, regardless of his position in life, treated him like any old husband making sure he picked up milk (or eggs or orange juice) from the grocery on the way home.

Obama probably has numerous running lists in her mind. She is focused and productive, always. No lying around the house watching re-runs of Green Acres, not even on a rainy day. Rainy days are for cleaning out closets. Sunny days are for mowing the yard (after you finish your homework and before you clean your room).

Mercury is in serious earth sign Capricorn and Uranus and Pluto are in detail-oriented, earth sign Virgo. Obama does not miss a detail or a piece of lint on your shirt. You’d better approach her with your facts straight and your shoes tied.

Saturn conjunct the Moon

Saturn conjunct the moon represents very reserved emotions due to a childhood where one was asked not to express emotions, for one reason or another. In Aquarius, it suggests that one had to be logical and able to explain everything one felt.

The image that comes to mind is of an academic household where ideas were discussed at the dinner table and if you happened to say you had a bad day at school because someone stole you lunch, your hurt feelings were glossed over as your parents tried to explain theories of psychology and socio-economics.

In other words, Obama probably grew up in a household where pity and self-pity were discouraged and idealism and learning were encouraged. Rationality in human beings is always a treat except when you just need a hug because you scraped your knee. It’s difficult to explain rationally.

Planets in Water and Fire

Obama does have a couple of planets in water – Neptune in Scorpio and Venus in Pisces. In partnership and friendship Obama is empathetic and caring.

Jupiter is in Aries showing a strong confidence in self. I don’t know where that Jupiter in Aries is placed in the horoscope (while Astrotheme’s chart provides a time, it is still a rectified chart).

Attraction to Barack Obama

When I first looked at the charts of Michelle and Barack Obama, I had trouble understanding the attraction. Google once again came to the rescue and I found this interview with Michelle Obama:

In the interview, her primary reason for marrying Obama was his love for his mother. Later in the story she’s quoted as saying:

“And he’s cute,” she added, “I always thought he would be useful. But I had no idea he was going to be president.”

She “thought he would be useful.” I’m guessing she meant useful to society but that’s not the quote. Remember, the key phrase for Capricorn is “I use.”

Barack Obama’s Saturn (in Capricorn) is directly on Michelle Obama’s sun in Capricorn. To have someone’s Saturn on your sun means that they restrict or control you in some way. They are a “heavy” in your life. They bring duty and responsibility in your world. Often the person is much older.

Many folks don’t like that feeling.

Barack Obama’s Mars in Virgo trines Michelle Obama’s sun in Capricorn and conjuncts her Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Virgo is a practical earth sign saying his drive for work and health is pleasing to her.

The traditional indicators of physical attraction, his Mars on her Venus (if you know what I mean), are minimal. Michelle Obama’s Mars in Aquarius is trine Barack Obama’s moon in Gemini. His Jupiter in Aquarius is conjunct her Mars in Aquarius. Her Venus in Pisces is trine his Venus in Cancer.

Michelle Obama’s attraction to Barack Obama appears to be more about his ability to create a household and work environment than butterflies in the stomach.

Neither partner is strong in emotion. Possibly it’s the Venus connection – hers in Pisces and his in Cancer that united them. I suspect that for both the one and only place they dare to express their deepest feelings is with each other.

Maybe their attraction to each other is just that – as a refuge, the one place to say you feel like crying for no particular reason.

Marriage Time

The Obamas married in 1992 as Obama was nearing her Saturn return. Pluto was transiting her Neptune (in Scorpio), the transiting Uranus/Neptune conjunction was moving toward her sun and transiting Saturn was conjunct her Mars (in Aquarius).

Marriage was a serious endeavor for her, in line with her serious personality. All married folks suffer disillusion of some sort in marriage and I’m guessing the Obama’s behind-the-scenes view of marriage was quite intense with Pluto transiting Neptune and Neptune transiting her sun.

Pluto transiting Capricorn

Pluto is currently transiting Capricorn, already conjunct Obama’s Mercury indicating transformation in communication and daily routines.

It will be a few years before the slow-moving Pluto conjuncts her sun and another Capricorn transformation will emerge in the world.

Because Obama is such a serious person, Pluto will not scare her the way it does the air and fire signs of the zodiac. She’s primed for a serious life so nothing should set this very stubborn individual off course.

Maybe Obama will follow the path of another strong, serious and focused female first lady – Hillary Clinton.

Obama has played her Capricorn cards well and appears to be respected (the highest honor for Capricorn) as a strong and serious individual. Whatever she chooses to do after First-Lady-Hood, she will undoubtedly be successful.

Romney the Inevitable

January 11, 3012

Chapter 1: The Beginning

A millennium ago when the magnetic fields of the earth were shifting and the waters of the ocean were warming, a man named Romney the Inevitable ran for the presidency of what was then called the “United States of America.” Romney the Inevitable was the son of Romney the Elder.

During the 2,000 year age of Pisces, the people of the earth were frequently worried about falling off the edge of the world and the ending of the world. The Piscean energy of merging with others and with the divine both inspired and scared the people of the earth.

Romney the Inevitable carried watery Piscean and Scorpio energy and lacked a fire of the spirit. The mood of the people was grim and while Romney the Inevitable did not stir the passions of the people, they accepted with resignation a leader who appeared to be inevitable as no joyous contender was able to defeat Romney the Inevitable through the contemporary mode of warfare called, in Olde American English, “primaries.”

These “primaries” were fought with electronic devices called “voting machines,” the sword having long fallen out of disfavor as the weapon of overthrow. The machines employed ancient techniques of technology and the people did not look behind the machines to examine how they functioned.

Just prior to Romney the Inevitable, paper that was called “money” and was used for trade was printed in excess during Pluto in Sagittarius causing the people to trade unequally. The printers of the excess paper watched over this unequal trade and benefited by its outcome. The people, however, suffered from it.

The people were made poor and greatly saddened as Pluto entered Capricorn. The housing and labor structures of the people were greatly disturbed by the contracting energy (Capricorn) that followed the excess energy (Sagittarius). The people knew not what happened.

In the one hundred years prior to Romney the Inevitable, Capricorn societal structures had become larger and larger until few, but extraordinarily powerful, structures remained.

As Romney the Inevitable tried to overtake the presidency of the United States, Uranus in Aries made the people of the earth angry and they began to lash out at their rulers. As the people lashed out, Pluto began destroying the societal structures so people believed in them no more. Neptune entering Pisces made the people search again for union with the divine while still fearing personal extinction.

Challengers to Romney the Inevitable

There were several challengers to Romney the Inevitable who fell, one by one. First was Bach-not-Man a female contender. While she had the jolting energy of Uranus upon her, she fell quickly as the country did not prefer female rulers, having had none in its then 236-year history.

The second opponent was called Governor of Texas (Gobernador de Tejas in Spanish), Texas being a state in the Union before it seceded in 2050 to become its own country (before later being annexed by Mexico in 2075). Governor of Texas was suffering the combined energy of Virgo and Pisces and was not able to perform without considerable anxiety and thereby fell by illness of the nerves.

The third opponent was called Her-Nine due to his use of the magical number 9 during his challenge. Her-Nine was influenced by the fire energy which greatly roused the melancholy people. The watery energy of his challengers put out his fire by using the Power of Female against him.

The fourth opponent was called Newt-Get-Rich. This was the most slippery contender greatly under the influence of the sign Gemini. Newt-Get-Rich fell by his own tongue which lashed out randomly and ultimately retracted and strangled Newt-Get-Rich.

The fifth opponent was called Rick Swordman who was of fixed nature and strong opinion. Rick Swordman fell on his own sword of causes, which did not bend, which ended his challenge.

The sixth opponent was called Ron the Elder who had fixed energy and devoted followers but was not of the youthful agility to overcome Romney the Inevitable. Ron the Elder continued to guide the people through his tales of the past and stories of the paper “money.”

The seventh and final challenger was called Jon the Hunter (狩猎 in Chinese). Jon the Hunter hid his double Aries warrior energy from the people for a long time. Like a feline, Jon the Hunter examined his prey well before attack and sprung from hidden places. Unfortunately, Jon the Hunter forgot to spring.

Five Career Options for Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum isn’t doing too well ( 不太好 Chinese) in New Hampshire at the time of this writing. Andy Warhol was right – we all get our 15 minutes of fame and 15 minutes to stand next to Mitt Romney.

If Jon Huntsman, who is running third behind Romney and Ron Paul, stays in the race, maybe he will have the honored spot next to Romney in any future debates. If I recall, Paul was standing next to Romney in the last debate (January 8) even though he hadn’t quite earned a “not-Romney” designation due to the fact the Republican Party wants to ignore him.

Tomorrow will tell if Santorum will go to South Carolina. To help him consider options, Ohio Astrology has put together, as it has done for other past and present contenders, some career options should president of the United States be off the table for Santorum.

Five Career Options

  1. Auctioneer – In the first 300 debates (or however many it was), Santorum was off on the sidelines and when given a rare opportunity to speak often covered 10-20 topics in 30 seconds. Santorum is a clear and rapid speaker and would make an excellent auctioneer. He may need some additional training but I think he has the “say as much as you can in every second” down pat.
  2. Judge – Santorum’s fixed personality which contains very clear ideas of right and wrong would make for an excellent judge. If you’re a judge you have to make decisions even if you’re tired, or don’t care or really have no opinion, and Santorum can do that, and quickly.
  3. Cult leader – Santorum’s Taurus sun and Aquarius moon are both fixed signs. Taurus is a strong and charismatic sign that does well in cult leadership.
  4. Biosphere leader – Santorum is both earthy-practical and airy-inventive. He is quirky enough to think through the details of a biosphere and then determined enough to gather the citizens of this self-contained ecosystem.
  5. Rancher – If Santorum ever decided to give up his “causes,” I could see him happily contented on a large ranch like Ted Turner or Robert Redford. Maybe like Redford he could also create a movie company and promote films that focus on his causes.

Ohio Astrology’s Republican Debate Prep Sheet: January 7, 2012

Good news! With Michele Bachmann out of the race, the remaining six candidates will have more time to talk. OHA’s estimate is that each candidate will have an extra THREE MINUTES.

That’s lots of time to explain how the Federal Reserve has brought the economy to its knees or how to overhaul the entire US health care system or the history of US intervention in Iran and why we should be involved now. I hope the candidates use these precious minutes wisely.

January 7 Energy

The sun is in Capricorn and it’s a great time to organize. Where I work, we are selling lots of organizing apparatus right now – bookshelves, plastic organizing bins, notebooks, calendars and storage containers.

The candidates need to remember that it’s Capricorn time – get serious and organized. Make tough talk. Sound authoritative. Pretend you rule Cuba.

Mars is still in Virgo and will be there until next July. For more on this transit by candidate, click here.

Tomorrow’s moon will be in Cancer meaning that the audience wants some emotional output, they want to feel comfort from the candidates.

Today’s debate prep sheet will be in OHA’s special order based on my preference at this particular moment in time. I choose to start with Rick Perry because this will probably be the last time he’s included in this roundup and he will probably have one question or less at this debate, trading places with Rick Santorum who spent the first 300 debates (or however many it was) at the Siberian end of the stage.

January 7 Debate Prep Sheet

Rick Perry – Transiting Mars in Virgo means you’re still nervous. Transiting Pluto opposite your natal Uranus means you’re still nervous. Transiting Moon conjuncting your natal Uranus means you’re still nervous. Transiting Neptune on your Mercury means that your speech is erratic and unclear (and that you’re still nervous). There are three ways to relieve your nervousness: 1) bring your family and make sure they are in eye view 2) prescription or non-prescription drugs or 3) don’t run for president.

Ron Paul – Transiting Mars will be conjunct your natal Venus in Virgo so your persnickety Virgo air will be out in full force. This energy is like going to the same diner every Sunday and complaining every Sunday that the eggs are runny. Transiting Venus in Aquarius doesn’t mind that you complain about the eggs, but wants you to explain why you go to the same diner if you don’t like the eggs. Transiting Mercury in Sagittarius wants you to lighten up a bit and find a clever way to make the eggs palatable, like drenching them in some Mexican salsa.

Jon Huntsman – Long time no see (很久 不见 in Chinese). The transiting moon in Cancer makes people want to watch a sad movie just so they have a reason to cry. This type of behavior is quite alien to you. You might want to tell a sad tale about someone you met on the campaign trail. Transiting Neptune and Venus are on your natal Mars so the lighting will treat you well – dress especially nice. Transiting Mercury in Sagittarius means it’s okay to talk about foreign places and express grand plans, which is good since that’s your specialty.

Rick Santorum – You’re the new Not-Romney so you’ll also get to stand (or sit) Next-to-Romney as a reward. Transiting Mercury will be conjunct your Saturn. Your natal Saturn in Sagittarius suggests that your worldview isn’t optimistic or expansive. I’m guessing you’re going to be beat hard on this. Your brick-like debating style shows you have some cajones, but Mercury transiting your Saturn will challenge your lack of hopeful or joyous feelings. Have you ever done something for no reason, just for the heck of it? Bring that feeling with you tomorrow. In fact, think like Santa Claus. Make your unique ideas sound interesting rather than restrictive as Venus and Neptune transit your Aquarius moon.

Mitt Romney – Mars is directly opposite your sun so the daggers being thrown at you will change into swords. Transiting moon in Cancer is good for you because your watery, emotional energy will be appreciated. Transiting Mercury in Sagittarius squares your Piscean Mars, Mercury and sun. Like Santorum, it’s time to sound hopeful and optimistic while dodging the bullets. Tomorrow’s energy seems kind of flat for you. Maybe you will be the one-question candidate this time.

Newt Gingrich – Transiting Mercury in Sagittarius on your chart is like adding charcoal to a volcano. Transiting moon in Cancer means that you should have waited until this debate to cry. I think you lost the moment by crying in Iowa. Transiting Venus and Neptune in Aquarius means that you have to say “we” a lot rather than “I.” Transiting Mars will be on your natal Neptune which will overload your mental circuits. Rick Perry’s nervousness may be rubbing off on you. In general transiting Mars in Virgo is activating a T-square in your chart. I imagine a lot of insomnia with this placement. Relax.

If you want to host a news show, what sign should you be?

When I heard that grumpy and cantankerous Capricorn Charlie Rose would host CBS’ morning news show, I wondered why so many Capricorns make it in this realm (and why one would want to wake to Charlie Rose – I thought he was the one to put us to sleep).

Why aren’t news shows filled with Geminis and Sagittarians, the two signs that love to talk about news and ideas and generally just love to talk?

In a blog about talk show hosts, I noticed that Aquarians prevail in daytime talk shows.

Why Aquarius for a talk show and Capricorn for a news show?

I think it’s because Aquarius talks WITH the audience and Capricorn talks TO the audience. Aquarius is friendship and Capricorn is authority.

What is authority?

Dictionary.com definition of authority is “the power to determine, adjudicate, or otherwise settle issues or disputes; jurisdiction; the right to control, command, or determine.”

The “right to control.” Interesting. Who bestows this right?

I think Lord of the Flies describes it best – authority establishes itself. I am authority because I say I am authority. Remember as children responding to an argument with “because I said so?” You were establishing yourself as authority.

Parenthood is the only natural authority-bestowing situation in our lives. The rest is kind of made up.

Seriousness

Capricorns are serious folks. They may also appear on news shows more than other signs because of a serious and mature nature.

Jennifer Lopez or Katie Couric can tell you that the US invaded Iraq. It’s the same information. We here in the US want to hear it from Katie Couric (watch Mexican news some time to see how different the female news anchors are from US female news anchors).

Capricorns probably also appear in the corporate news shows because they know how to “toe the line.” As purveyors of authority, they do not always challenge authority. If Bush calls the invasion of Iraq “the war on terror,” then our Capricorn hosts call it “the war on terror.”

Generation Gap

While there are too many news show hosts to study on this sunny morning, I did notice in the chart above that the Capricorns are older and the newer news show hosts are from non-Capricorn signs.

As Pluto transits Capricorn, our Capricorn anchors may pass into the annals of history as they focus instead on the disintegrating structures of their lives.

I can’t image waking to Charlie Rose. He’s not my “cup of coffee” but he may be yours. I’m guessing that this time next year will see a new host in his chair.

New Hampshire – the Opposite of Iowa

Iowa has sun in Capricorn and moon in Taurus – both earth signs (based on admission to the Union).

New Hampshire has sun in Cancer (almost directly opposite by sign and degree of Iowa’s sun) and moon in probably Aquarius (based on admission to the Union).

Cancer and Aquarius, interesting mix. Eccentrically shy, self-consciously weird. Emotional with bouts of extreme rationalism.

If Iowa was about practical matters, New Hampshire is really about family and community values. This is where the water-sign candidates might prevail (Romney and Perry) although they will have to play out the “sacrificial lamb” ploy to do it as Saturn is in Pisces in the NH chart and both Romney and Perry have sun in Pisces.

New Hampshire is Water

New Hampshire has five planets in water signs (Sun, Jupiter, Mercury and Uranus are in Cancer, Saturn is in Pisces), two in fire (Venus and Mars in Leo) and three in air (Neptune in Libra and moon and Pluto in Aquarius). There are no planets in earth.

What does this mean for the candidates?

Now I see why Hillary Clinton cried in New Hampshire and not in Iowa. Iowa doesn’t care about tears, unless they water crops. New Hampshire cares about tears and feelings and probably truly believes all those promises.

I also see, too, why everyone eats in diners with these folks. Cancer is about food and comfort.

Advice to all the candidates – cry (at a diner) and make it look real.

New Hampshire Astrological Advice by Candidate

Today I’ll organize by sign of the zodiac. Aries is first and Pisces last. Hopefully you know the in-between order by now . . .

Perry the Pisces will appear before Romney the Pisces because he is in an earlier degree of Pisces.

Jon Huntsman – Wow, dude, you’re going to feel like a lighted match in the middle of the cold Atlantic. Your Jupiter in Capricorn opposite all the New Hampshire Cancer energy will turn them off. You need to pretend to be ONE OF THEM instead of ABOVE THEM. If you can leave your ego in Utah and pretend to be just one of the family, they might accept you. The important thing to remember about family is that they talk behind your back. They are talking about you now.

Rick Santorum – You’re definitely weird enough for these folks, although you’re going to have to act emotional in public, something you may have never done before. It’s time to activate that Mars in Pisces without acting nervous and jittery (with transiting Mars in Virgo opposite this placement). With your Taurus sun, you like a good meal. So does NH. Have many, many meals in NH and maybe even gain a few pounds doing it. Make sure there are homemade goodies (HOMEMADE I SAID) at all events. Let the NH folks make fun of your added weight so they can feel like family and then lose the weight down south where it’s warm enough to get some outdoor exercise.

Newt Gingrich – Are you really going to NH? I suppose with Jupiter in Cancer, you feel that they will be good to you. Your energy is like alien energy to these folks but their sense of propriety will make them offer you a room for the night. Make sure you offer them a present before you leave so that they don’t feel you are an ungrateful houseguest. Cancer likes to talk as much as Gemini, just don’t do the Sagittarius moon talk about travels and philosophy. Talk about home and family life. Tell fanciful yarns about kittens and puppies and children and such.

Ron Paul – You share the same Saturn in Pisces placement as NH. Your best bet will be to say that you ARE New Hampshire, that their travails are your travails. Bleed and cry with them and act like a Democrat for a couple minutes by showing demonstrations of pity for all that they have been through. Don’t forget to tell them that Gingrich stole the family Bible from the guest room but that you didn’t even use the towels and made your own bed. NH’s Mars is conjunct your sun. They like your natural confidence.

Rick Perry – Ah, NH is a place you can be your sensitive self. No more acting like a tough guy or berating others because a firm out of their control used a laborer with fake papers. With your sun in Pisces and moon in Virgo, this Cancer state is the one place that will accept you as you are and will even tuck you into bed at the end of a long day. Your Venus, Jupiter and Mercury in Aquarius will appeal to NH’s Aquarius moon. NH’s Saturn in Pisces, however, is on your sun. You must nail yourself to some cross for these folks, but you won’t mind it. It’s your comfort zone. Now you can finally relax for a few days before it gets rough again.

Mitt Romney – NH’s Cancer energy adds the missing piece of a grand water trine in your chart (sun in Pisces, moon in Scorpio) indicating that this is requited love. You are in your element in NH. Your Venus on NH’s moon says that they adore you. NH’s Venus and Mars are in Leo so they are proud and will pounce on your Saturn in Leo forcing you shine more. One other teensy tiny problem is that NH’s Saturn in Pisces is conjunct your Mars in Pisces. Like Perry, you need to appear to be sacrificing something for these folks. You won’t enjoy it as much as Perry because of your Scorpio moon which is proud and in control. Hopefully your cross will match your wardrobe. If not, hang there anyway.

4.97 Career Options for Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann was right that Iowa would surprise us – it gave Mitt Romney a mere eight (8) vote lead over the second place candidate Rick Santorum. Eight votes are clearly disputable but I don’t think anyone will go there during this process.

Bachmann received a mere 4.97% of the votes.

I know, I know, Iowa isn’t important like New Hampshire. I know, I know, there are people who win Iowa only to fade into the corn rows like “Children of the Corn.”

Yes, New Hampshire is in one week. But remember, Huntsman is still in the game and his dissing of both Iowa and the fidelity vows suggests he’s got some guerrilla tactic up his sleeve.

Regardless, the individuals with the most fixed signs won the top three spots in Iowa.

Michele, can you drop Newt and Perry off on your way home? Newt might be a little distracting as a talk-a-holic but Perry will be quiet as he holds back his emotions in the back seat.

4.97 Career Options for Bachmann

Ohio Astrology, again, would like to offer Political Career Displacement Services to the Republican Presidential Candidates that don’t make it through the finish line. I wish I could offer some unemployment benefit, but since politicians are all wealthy, it’s not truly necessary.

Five career options:

  1. Vice President – hey, that’s still out there. To beat our first African American president, the Republicans may choose to throw a female into the race as they did in 2008.
  2. Head of non-profit organization – I know that this is a stereotypical wife-of-politician career path, but I think you’d be really good at it with sun in Aries and moon in Aquarius. It might give the true fulfillment you are looking for by running for president.
  3. Animal trainer – with so much fire in the chart and Mars in Capricorn, you would love the challenge of taming a wild beast.
  4. Developer – you would enjoy the material aspects of development which include watching something being built and making money at the same time. It would also provide that sense of community your Aquarius moon seeks.
  5. (.97) Head of a new political party – back to the Aries and Aquarius energy. If they can revolt in the Middle East, why not the US?

Good luck, Michele. I kind of hope the Republicans will choose you as VEEP. I think you deserve it WAY more than Sarah Palin.

Iowa Returns

In astrology when a planet returns to the position (degree and minute) where it was placed in the natal horoscope, it is called a planet’s “return.” The return is based on a planet’s cycle around the sun.

The average human life expectancy in the US is about 78 years. In 78 years we experience almost one Uranus return, almost three Saturn returns, almost seven Jupiter returns and a myriad of Mars, Venus and Mercury returns. The moon returns to its position once a month. One will never see a Neptune or Pluto return.

For a non-human entity, such as a state in the union, the life expectancy is undetermined but much longer than a human life. The oldest US states are Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey which are 224 years old. Soon these three states will be the first in the US to experience a Pluto return (in about 24 years).

Since the Iowa caucuses are in a few days, I thought I’d glance at Iowa’s horoscope. I don’t know much about mundane (world affair) or electional (event) astrology but was surprised to see that on January 3, 2012, seven of the ten planets in the horoscope are undergoing a conjunction.

Iowa is also experiencing its Neptune return, which happens when one is 164 years old. Iowa just turned 165 in December. Iowa is also close to experiencing its second Uranus return. Uranus has an 84 year cycle so the second return occurs when one is 168.

The Transiting Conjunctions

• Pluto is conjuncting the natal sun and Venus in Capricorn
• Uranus is almost conjunct natal Uranus in Aries (natal Pluto is also in Aries but far by degree)
• Neptune is conjunct natal Neptune and Saturn in Aquarius (Venus is also transiting Aquarius but far from the Neptune/Saturn conjunction)
• Jupiter is conjunct natal moon in Taurus
• Saturn is conjunct natal north node in Libra
• Mercury is conjunct natal Mercury in Sagittarius

Transiting Mars in Virgo

Transiting Mars in Virgo is adding the missing piece of a grand earth trine of sun/Venus in Capricorn, moon in Taurus and transiting Mars in Virgo.

What does it mean?

The sense I’m getting is that this caucus will prove materially advantageous to Iowa. Pluto on the Capricorn sun suggests that Iowa’s already important part in the election process will be elevated to an even greater importance.

I don’t know what happens in backroom politics, but I’m wondering if Iowa will gain something from this caucus or this election. Maybe someone from Iowa will be part of the Republican ticket or possibly someone from Iowa will be elevated into a high position in Washington.

I’m also getting the image of match fixing – you know, rigging a boxing match and betting on who will win knowing the outcome in advance and betting strategically on both sides. Pluto is a Machiavellian power player.

That money enters the state during the primary process is a given. With Jupiter on the moon, this election’s windfall might be greater than in the past. Mars in Virgo adding the missing piece of the grand earth trine suggests the money is coming from communications and work.

Uranus in Aries returning to its natal position is squaring that natal sun in Capricorn and the transiting Pluto in Capricorn. This suggests some intense volatility in the state. Uranus in Aries brought us uprisings in the Middle East; this aspect might bring us uprisings in Iowa.

While the US loves revolution in our enemies, we are not so appreciative of revolution at home or with our allies. The Pluto power play may turn to bite those that create it.

Somehow Iowa’s political influence will shift in an earthquake-like manner. The Capricorn and Aries energy makes me feel they will fight to be on top and in control. But fight with who or what?

Saturn transiting the natal north node in Libra opposite natal Pluto in Capricorn suggests a struggle between fairness and power. There might even be some sort of legal battle that involves the courts or some higher electional authority.

The Neptune return over the Neptune/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius indicates that while there is a mental idea of fraternity during the caucuses, there is also elitism which runs counter to the egalitarian motives of the process.

Will Iowa Change the Primary or Will the Primary Change Iowa?

Iowa is going through some intense changes during the time of the election. Will Iowa lead changes in the election process or will the election process lead to changes in Iowa?

Something’s up in Iowa. It will be interesting to what happens.

Ohio Astrology Helps Republican President Candidates with New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time again – time for New Year’s Resolutions. Luckily we make our resolutions AFTER we drink ourselves into a stupor on New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s resolutions occur in the sign of Capricorn and it’s no wonder that our resolutions tend to be Capricorn/Saturnian in nature – we want to contract (lose weight, pay off our bills), discipline (plan to go to the gym three times a week, eat more vegetables) or control (this is the year I will start my own business or find a new job).

Sure, some resolve to have more fun or find a way to live on the beach (and those might be from the serious Capricorns), but the very idea of a resolution implies discipline.

Republican Presidential Candidates

Ohio Astrology, in its constant effort to be of service, offers to help the Republican Presidential Candidates find the most appropriate New Year’s Resolution based on their charts. New Year’s Resolution time for the candidates also, coincidentally, coincides with the Iowa caucuses on January 3.

On January 3, 2012, the sun will be in 12 degrees of Capricorn with Pluto in 7 degrees of Capricorn following the sun like a rash on your skin. The moon and Jupiter will be in Taurus. Mars will be in Virgo.

That’s a lot of earth which means the event (and results) will be like watching the earth move closer to your face as you make a crash landing due to a defective parachute.

It should be fun to watch.

Pluto in Capricorn means that this year’s resolutions will have the added intensity of Pluto. That means if we resolve to lose weight, there is a feeling of “I must lose weight, or else.”

Today’s list of resolutions by candidate will be alphabetical by first name. This gives our rarely-seen but supremely confident Huntsman top billing.

Suggested Resolutions

Jon Huntsman – I resolve to take better care of my skin, bones and knees. I will also let my guard down and let go of the constant need to be in control of my surroundings.

Michele Bachmann – I resolve to slow down and not take every idea and impulse to extremes. I will do this even if those around me urge me in this type of behavior.

Mitt Romney – I resolve to share more of what I have (including material goods) with others. Instead of sharing only my beliefs, I will share my true emotions and will try to understand why others don’t always agree with me.

Newt Gingrich – I resolve to do something “grounded” this year so that I can understand cause and effect in the material world. I will plant a garden to see how what I sow is what I reap. I will be solely responsible for the outcome of the garden.

Rick Perry – I resolve to speak more clearly and more quickly with added detail. I resolve to transmute my anxiety into an energy with which to promote ideas.

Rick Santorum – I resolve to share my ideas with others by including them in what I do rather than lecturing them on my beliefs. With Venus and Neptune on my moon during the caucuses, I will connect with people more spiritually.

Ron Paul – I resolve to remember that my personal goals are not always the goals of the group. I resolve to remember that generation gaps create unique views of the world. I will share my material goods.

Kate Moss: How Skinny Feels

Kate Moss, British supermodel, was quoted as saying in Women’s Wear Daily in 2009 that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”

What does skinny Kate Moss feel?

Skinny for Moss is sun in Capricorn and moon in Scorpio. Skinny is both serious and intense. Skinny is not the aloof waif we see on every other page of Vogue – it is someone who strives for respect, to be on top and does notice that you are lower on the mountain. Skinny is discipline to achieve one’s goals.

Moss has Uranus in Libra square the Capricorn sun and Mercury and Venus in Aquarius, the sign ruled by Uranus. I believe it’s that Aquarius/Uranus influence that makes Moss a unique beauty and probably creates the Aquarian aloofness we see in her face. Aquarius also would explain an androgynous appearance and appeal.

Moss has quite a bit of air in her chart with Jupiter/Venus/Mercury in Aquarius, Saturn in Gemini and Pluto/Uranus in Libra. Air makes for a social being.

Capricorn and Scorpio, on the other hand, are private. Scorpio is intensely private of its “secrets” and Capricorn is discrete so as not to be embarrassed in public.

Moss’ drug charge several years ago must have been extremely embarrassing. Capricorn and Scorpio both have large egos and want to be seen as strong. Being caught with one’s pants down is not fun for anyone but for Capricorn and Scorpio it is close to a death warrant. Moss is probably still beating herself up for that episode.

Mars in Taurus in Moss’ chart opposes that Scorpio moon making for one stubborn and demanding chick. Moss is a deliberate and methodical individual.

There is only one planet in fire is Moss’ chart – Neptune in Sagittarius. Moss’ chart contains Scorpio obsessiveness and Capricorn striving, but not true confidence. She lacks enthusiasm and raw zest for life.

Moss probably experiences Capricorn/Scorpio depression from time to time. Her drug use may have been fueled by feelings of melancholy rather than a desire to suppress hunger or a simple desire to have fun. It could have been started by social pressure as air signs are always in tune with the crowd, even if they “rebel” against the current zeitgeist. But its deeper source may have been a simple sense of sadness.

If Moss hadn’t been discovered and turned into a model, she probably would have been equally successful in whatever endeavor she chose. She’s a mixture of drive for success and social ability which is a winning combination.

Current Transits

Saturn has been transiting Libra which has been hell for many relationships. For Moss, it has possibly created some angry and aggressive situations as it passed Pluto and is now hatching an egg on Uranus.

Pluto and Uranus are outer planets so the struggles aren’t simply with the folks around Moss, but with the powers that be in her industry. I bet there have been some nasty arguments. Moss, with Capricorn and Scorpio, is surely the winner of any angry argument.

In several years Pluto will transit Moss’ sun (about six years from now). She may be re-inventing herself now and will emerge as a different type of person around that time. Maybe she will even have a career change. Capricorn is about career and if Moss finds she’s not on top anymore, she may move to a new vocation in which to retain her heightened status.

Saturn in Gemini suggests that Moss feels a little insecurity about her education or learning background. Maybe when Pluto transits her sun she will be involved in some educational pursuit.

How does skinny feel?

Skinny, like any other state, feels different on each skinny person. For Moss, skinny is a serious business (duh). If Moss was a real estate agent, property would be a serious business, 24/7. If Moss sold ice cream, she would be watching the price of milk (and cows) 24/7.

In other words, Moss is disciplined and obsessive. Skinny is her path to success on this particular career.

Skinny is not my path to success (at least, I don’t think so). So I’m off to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I will have something the rich and successful Moss doesn’t have – pimples.
